VALENCIA’S POV
"I never thought we would et like this," Alfonso said.
I humd. Maverick had given us only 10 minutes, but strangely, all the things I wanted to say and ask felt useless.
We sat in silence for a couple of minutes before I bit my lips.
"I wished I could help you. You saved my life once, and if possible, I want to repay you in this lifeti. But I won’t go against my man," I whispered.
I know it sounded a little selfish and rude, and I should’ve helped him, especially when I knew the other side of the story and how hard it was for both the guys, but Maverick wasn’t wrong.
They just misunderstood Alfonso.
If I went ahead and told him everything that I knew or felt was right, he would bla Alfonso again and think he had manipulated just like he was able to manipulate his mate seven years ago.
Increasing the growing difference between the brothers was the last thing I wanted to happen.

"Stupid girl. I would never want you to go against him. In fact, it fills with joy that my brother has finally found soone who is ready to go against anything and everything to be on his side," He smiled before taking a deep breath and looking at with a new gleam in his eyes.
"I liked you as a human being when we t, but now I like you as my sister-in-law. It’s better if you let things stay as they are. If the moon goddess would want it, she would give us brothers a chance to reconcile," Alfonso said.
I nodded at him.
I didn’t want to make any empty promises to him or anybody else, but I was going to ensure that I find evidence supporting his story and show it to Maverick.
Despite how rude and cold the man looks before everybody else, deep inside, he is a kid who wants to be loved.
"I will see what I can do," I said.
"What do you want to do?" Maverick’s voice ca next, and I looked at him, walking to him naturally.
I smiled before holding his hand.
"Thank you for trusting ," I cupped his cheeks.
His tensed brows relaxed slightly, and he sighed before placing his forehead on mine.
"I trust you, mi amore. It’s just him that I don’t trust around anyone who is precious to . And you, my girl, are more important than my life," Maverick said.
My heart skipped a beat at his open confession, and I nodded at him.
"Your ten minutes are over," he said to .
I humd.
"I am done talking to you. There isn’t much to say. He saved my life once, and I forgot to thank him at that ti. So I thanked him now," I nodded at Alfonso, who smiled at sadly before I pulled Maverick out of the cell.
"Lock it," I said to the guard, who averted his gaze to Maverick to ask silently if he wanted it too.
"Do what your Luna says," Maverick said, making my heart skip a beat for the second ti. My insides felt giddy at how naturally he was calling his when nothing was done and official.
"Are the Lycans here?" I asked.
Maverick pulled out rather than answering , stopping at so distance from the dungeons.
"Stay here," He said.
I humd, not saying anything and just looking around as he disappeared to God knows where.
I sighed, and seeing a bench at a distance, I went there and sat on it, crossing my legs like a kid waiting for her candy.
Roaming my gaze around the area, I noticed a few people stopping to look at like I was so kind of antique piece before they continued their journey with a little giggle.
"Hi," I heard a cute voice and turned to my left to see a little girl sitting beside and mimicking my position.
"Hi," I whispered.
"So you are our alpha’s long-lost love? His lost princess?" The little girl asked, and I furrowed my brows.
"My mom said that our alpha is alone because his love got lost in the woods. That’s why he couldn’t sleep at night. But she promised to return after so ti because she was making money for us all. Are you rich now?" the little kid asked.
Her words brought a smile to my face. I am sure the lady said these words to calm this girl’s curiosity.
But the fact that so many people, from kids to elders, were so worried about their Alpha’s heart and well-being made my heart lt.
Their alpha was capable of everything, but they still cared about his sleep and loneliness.
"Please don’t leave our alpha now. Though he can be rude at tis and beco angry, it’s all for our good," the little girl said, and I chuckled.
"Puro! Oh my," I heard a woman’s anxious voice, and I saw a woman dressed in a gown and an apron rushing toward us.
She bowed her head and got on her knees.
"I am sorry, Luna. Please don’t mind her words. She is just—"
"Please get up," I said, getting on my knees to lift her.
The lady widened her eyes and bent to wipe my knees with her apron.
"What are you doing?" I asked, grabbing her hand.
She looked at with wide eyes, the hint of fear in her eyes making feel guilty imdiately.
"What I an is, why are you treating like I am so deity? I can assure you I am not. I am a woman, a normal human being just like you," I said before caressing her hands.
"You sll like cookies," I whispered, my nose tingling with the familiar scent that made my stomach growl a little.
What the hell? Those elderly ladies were stuffing my mouth earlier. How can my stomach really digest everything so quickly? It didn’t make any sense at all.
"Uhh...yeah, puro loves cookies so..."
"Would you give one too? It’s been a long ti since soone gave homade cookies. I don’t rember the taste," I said softly.
The lady widened her eyes before she nodded her head violently.
"Please co with ," The lady said, and I followed her to her house.
I was about to enter the house when I felt my other hand being grabbed, making turn to look at the glaring alpha with narrowed eyes.
"Is soone harassing you with their over-care again?" He asked, his gaze shifting to the lady and the little girl who hid behind her mother.
"Shush, I ca here to eat homade cookies," I said before gently removing his hand from mine and intertwining our fingers.
"Can I eat one?" I asked, batting my eyelashes with a puppy face. He massaged his forehead before smiling.
"Let’s go," He said.
As soon as he said that, I saw three other n walking inside with us, and I looked at them with raised brows.
"Ahem... we pledged our loyalty to Luna when she was announced, so we will do whatever she does and ensure her safety," Shadow said.
I saw him shalessly picking a cookie and stuffing it in his mouth, and Liam and Sean followed.
"It’s called three-layer security," Sean said hesitantly, his gaze falling on the plate that held more cookies.
I chuckled at their obvious lie before sighing.
"Do you have more?" I asked the lady, who widened her eyes again as if in shock before nodding again.
She was probably unused to people knocking on her door and asking for cookies.
"Let’s sit and eat," I said to Shadow and others, who didn’t even bother to tell their alpha that they had yet to make a move and started eating the cookies one by one.
I grinned at Maverick’s scowling face before taking a bite of the cookie myself.
"Are you not interested?" I asked innocently, waving the cookie before him.
And he was about to take it from my hand when I popped the remaining piece in my mouth.
"I guess you are not," I bead.
He kept looking at for a few seconds before chuckling.
"I can see who is going to beco everyone’s new favorite in our pack," he said.
I froze for a second.
I can understand why everyone was talking like that. He has announced as their future Luna, but did he just say it was our pack?
Heat crept up my neck, and my heart drumd against my chest.
"You are my favorite, alpha. I even scolded our Luna for you. That she shouldn’t leave you again," Puro said.
Her mother imdiately stepped forward and covered her mouth.
"I ask for forgiveness from my daughter’s side. I just..." the lady started, but Maverick looked at her before smiling.
"I can understand. She is adorable. I would want our daughter to be like that," Maverick said, dropping another bomb on . If I had been shy earlier, I couldn’t control it anymore, as I felt hot all over.
