MAVERICK’S POV
I know she was shocked by the revelation of the truth. I didn’t want to reveal it to her like this, either.
I had thought it out—to surprise her and catch her red-handed when she was in her cat form—but how was I supposed to keep control over my overflowing emotions after what the mainland witches said to ?
I still can’t forget their mocking smiles when they looked at .
"What about her? If you already know about her, you must also know what is happening around her. Is there a way I can help her?" I asked the mainland witches.
"Help her?" Miranda asked if she were surprised I would ask sothing like that. \
But why would she give this kind of reaction?
Shouldn’t I be asking precisely that as soone who loved his woman?
"What does that expression an?" I asked, Reaper still standing as he looked at the witches with a gaze that said he was ready to take over and attack them if they sprouted a wrong word towards our woman from their mouth.
Mrinalini smiled. She shook her head.
"What makes you think you can do anything to help a ticking ti bomb?" She said,
I stood there, unreactive, letting them know I was ready to hear what they had to say about their statent.
"If you have co to us to seek answers, it ans you know so of the truth about her. The lingering vibes of her aura on your body clearly indicate you guys have been pretty close these days. Do you know about the curse?" Matilda asked.
I bobbed my head and told them I knew a little about it, but mostly the precautionary part.
"Well, we called her a ticking ti bomb because she doesn’t have any idea what she has. What her powers are, and what she is born for. Destiny is playing a cruel ga with her, and history is repeating itself," Miranda said.
I still didn’t understand what they were trying to say, so when they stopped speaking, I remained silent and looked at them.
They finally sighed.
"You don’t get it? She has awakened the devil itself, which wasn’t supposed to be awakened. That was why so many witches had been roaming around her. She is the only cure and curse for herself. There is no cure to her curse but she herself," Miranda said.
"What does she need to do?" I asked, finally understanding what they were trying to tell .
"Survive," The witches said altogether.
Survive? That was all?
Then again, why were they making such a big deal out of it if it was just a random word that ant nothing in particular? Was more harm leading towards her?
"The story has just started, maverick. You have just found out about her curse. Wait till you find out what she has that the devil is looking for and will be coming sooner or later for, but is the devil the only person who is attracted to her?" the mainland witches asked.
I didn’t say anything to that.
I knew what they were talking about this ti. The recent notes from whoever that rogue stalker was, which I was suspicious of, was the rogue head of the Northern regions, clearly depict that I wasn’t the only person obsessed with her.
"Is there nothing I can do to keep her safe?" I asked.
The mainland witches humd.
"We don’t know. We are yet to look into such things. But for now, how about you first try to know everything about her? You know little to nothing about her," Miranda said.
I looked down at my feet in sha. They were kind of right. I knew nothing in particular about her. Even after hearing about her parents, I didn’t try to search for them or help her find her people in any manner.
How can I really expect her to trust when I am reacting and behaving like this?
"So you have nothing you can help with?" I asked the witches, who smiled at .
"We do. Tell your cat woman to keep a lookout at people around her. And we want you to keep her away from anyone with a scar on his face. The devil will co for her sooner or later. He can change everything and anything in his appearance, but he won’t be able to hide the scar on his face that was given by his last curator, who sent him into a deep sleep of death," Miranda said.
I nodded in understanding.
I was about to take my leave and bid them goodbye when they stopped walking further.
"We are in no position to comnt on such things, but Alpha Maverick, you need to learn to give people the benefit of the doubt. Sotis, what we see isn’t the truth. What is hidden from us is the trick that people play on us to break us," Matilda said.
I didn’t understand what they were hinting at, but nodded nonetheless. I was only here to know about Valencia. The other things can wait. Now that I know a little bit about her curse, I first needed to find a solution for it amidst the ongoing attacks.
"The destiny will give you one more chance to rectify and clear what you couldn’t all those years ago. Stay, try to trust; maybe things weren’t exactly what they looked like," The witches said, and I humd at them before taking my leave.
As I started walking with Shadow, he told that Alia had been inford to reach the apartnt already and must have reached it.
I humd at him.
"Are you not worried about what Miss Valencia would think when eting with Alia? Girls tend to feel jealous quickly," Shadow reminded . Valencia was probably back at ho after eating ice cream, which was exactly what I told Dylan.
As soon as I heard his words, I knew I needed to be back at my place and make her feel loved before other won so she wouldn’t feel jealous of anyone.
Present~~~
"Are you mortified, baby? But isn’t that the truth? We will discuss this later. I understand if you don’t want her as your bodyguard, but you are getting one nonetheless," I said before leaving her hand so she could return to her room.
I had only called Alia to discuss the business and the new training plans for the won’s team. Still, when I saw her and rembered what the witches told , I wondered how great it would be if Alia beca my woman’s bodyguard.
She was trustworthy, and because we had trained a lot, I knew she was capable, too.
