MAVERICK’S POV
"Sir, we are about to reach there," Shadow inford , and I humd, licking my bottom lip.
Valencia’s presence was surely addicting. Now that I am so close to her, I have finally started to understand why everyone around her is obsessed with her.
Who wouldn’t?
And for once, I am ready to understand the POV of that stalker who is following my baby and everyone who is behind her.
If I had t her sooner than even after being anyone’s mate, I would’ve followed her like a happy puppy, letting anyone humiliate for that.
She is just so fucking good. Oh god, why am I so much in love with her, and when will this stop?
I didn’t want to stop loving her.
Rather, I wanted to stop it from turning into so much obsession and possession that I started hating being an alpha and working.
With a sigh, I exited the car as soon as we reached the forest near the caves.
"Do you want to wait here?" I asked Shadow.
He gulped.
I know he was slightly wary of them witches.
The mainland witches are known for their unpredictable nature, and only the people with the strongest will reach them when they are in their resting phase.
Though it wasn’t clear if they were actually here to take a rest or had ulterior motives, it doesn’t hurt to be cautious, right?
"I will stay beside my alpha. That’s how a beta should behave," Shadow said.
I chuckled at his choice of words, making his cheeks turn red in embarrassnt. It was clear how wary he was feeling.
I used to care for my people earlier, too, but after living with Valencia for so long, I have started to observe their slightest expressions.
"You don’t need to co with . I will be fine," I said. I was about to walk when Shadow quickly followed .
"No, sir. I want to be resilient and fearless like Miss Valencia," Shadow said, his words surprising .
Where did that co from?
"What do you an?" I asked.
"Miss Valencia went to the Caribbean’s den Pack without fear and ca back alive, even challenging their alpha and making their elders invite her for the dinners. I want to support you like her. We never understood your choice, but after seeing her for so long, I understand why you chose her among everyone," Shadow said.
I squinted my brows.
I only knew that Valencia had been on the mission near the Caribbean’s Den Pack. Where the hell did everything else co from?
"Sir, the information was posted on the forum on the alphas blog. They didn’t ntion it was Missing Valencia, but we know who went there, don’t we?" Shadow said.
I humd, feeling proud and angry at the sa ti. How dare she put her life in danger like this? Was this why she told she wanted a feast if she survived the mission?
Reaper felt enraged with Valencia, and it wasn’t the kind of anger where we wanted to shout at her or throw a tantrum, but the kind where we wanted to throw her on the bed and fuck her senseless until she realized her mistake.
"Let’s go," I said, not wanting to extend the topic anymore.
After so ti, we finally felt it. The density of the air increased, followed by a hissing sound.
"No matter what happens, don’t stop walking or look behind yourself, okay?" I told Shadow, who nodded his head.
I sighed at him before I spotted the first delusional presence of one of the mainland witches.
"I have co here to seek answers. Don’t waste my ti playing useless gas that you play with everyone. Suppress them," I said to the presence that appeared right before , making Shadow flinch back, but I looked straight into its eyes.
I noticed all the snakes that were starting to appear around us, hissing at us, ready to attack.
Shadow inched closer to . I knew what he was feeling. He probably waged a struggle to hold onto , but he was choosing to keep his dignity and tough guy image.
I would’ve scoffed if I didn’t want to get this over with and get back to my woman as quickly as possible.
If they really think they can scare away the beast alpha, they are indeed trying their best, given how they already know who I was.
I waited for a few seconds before the floating presence disappeared.
The snakes went away, and the haze covering the forest started to clear, stopping all the hissing sounds at once.
I walked ahead towards the cave, and it wasn’t long before I finally spotted the three witches floating in a sitting position above three large rocks.
They surely knew how to let people know they were witches.
"You have a unique way of expressing your point," Witch Matilda was the first one to speak.
I nodded at them respectfully, as Reaper didn’t allow to bow to anyone.
He was a proud alpha, the strongest of all, and that ca with the responsibility to maintain his aura, too.
"What brings you here?" Witch Mrinalini asked, and I sat in the chair they had brought out of nowhere.
I looked at Shadow, who walked far to give us privacy.
"I seek answers," I said.
There was no point wasting ti.
"You seek answers," the witch said as if it were a funny matter to her. I didn’t like the contempt in her voice.
I tilted my head, looking straight into her eyes.
"Are you mocking ?" I asked Mrinalini, who shook her head with a smile.
"We are not mocking the beast alpha; rather, we find it funny how the girl he has been so curious about is as untad as the fire in the forest. We t her," Mrinalini said, and I raised my brows at the words.
They have t Valencia already? Are they sure we were talking about the sa person?
When did she et them and -
I paused.
Right. They had co earlier, too, and I had found sothing that belonged to Valencia in the forests.
This girl!
