MAVERICK’S POV
"Sir, are you sure about it? This idea seems pretty –" Clark stopped speaking as he looked at , hesitancy clear in his eyes.
I raised my brows at him.
"Do you think I would call you back from a mission and waste my ti over sothing I am not serious about?" I asked him, and he shook his head.
I know what they were thinking.
As an alpha who has kept powers to himself and never tries or interfere with matters that don’t interest him, I was indeed making a bold move this ti.
However, I was done keeping things in check and acting like the good guy.
’Let make it clear: no one thinks you are a good guy,’ Reaper interrupted my thoughts.
I glared at the wolf, who smirked at . He, for sure, knows how to get on my nerves sotis.
’Would you have taken a different step if you were in my place?’ I asked him.
Reaper tilted his head as he looked at , more like observing for a few seconds before he stood from his place and walked ahead.
’What makes you think you and I are different, Maverick? If I had been in your place? Who are you telling this to? Don’t forget Valencia has always been my woman first before you. I was the one who chose her for ourselves,’ Reaper’s eyes turned dark, a clear indication he wouldn’t have any rebellion over his words this ti.
I rolled my eyes.
What did he an he chose her for us? I was the one who fell in love with her first. Besides, she liked first. Heck, she hasn’t even properly bonded with him. I scoffed before realizing I was competing with my wolf like a wolf, and a sigh left my mouth.
I was losing my mind for real this ti.
And the woman who has been the reason for all this ss, I looked at the girl who was happily eating, more like chugging ice cream in the ice cream parlor with a smile.
’And let remind you, you are not the reason behind her happiness. Dylan bought her that ice cream,’ Reaper said, and I massaged my forehead.
As if my jealousy wasn’t enough, I must suffer through my wolf’s jealousy now.
"Look at her. Isn’t she beautiful?" Reaper asked, and I looked at my woman’s smile before humming, my lips twitching.
"Alpha," Shadow called , snapping out of my whipped thoughts, and I cleared my throat.
"As I was saying, I am sure about this move," I said to Kai, who looked at Clark and nodded at him.
We have been staying quiet about the rogues for quite so ti, and it has made them think they have the upper hand over us just because I didn’t want to go on another bloodshed trip.
"But what will we say to other packs and the council when they demand an explanation of our people roaming around?" Clark asked, and I looked into his eyes.
Did he seriously ask this question?
"I am sorry, Alpha," He imdiately realized his mistake and bowed his head in submission.
This wasn’t even a question. We weren’t answerable to anyone at all.
Why were we roaming around the packs and hunting the rogues again like last year? Because I have just found out a rogue group has been targeting my woman, and everyone who has ever wanted to lay hands on her must die.
As I was busy looking over the route the team would be following to hunt down the rogues; I furrowed my brows when I saw Shadow deep in thought.
He was thinking about linking soone, but it must’ve been necessary for him to do it when I was talking to them.
"Sir, we discovered one of the rogues involved in the airport attack. Our team captured him," Shadow said.
Well, isn’t this great timing?
We sat in the cars to leave for the forests without wasting ti.
I wasn’t there with Valencia; instead, I went to look at her in the na of holding a eting there because I wanted to check things around her and ensure her safety.
Though she was with the council head’s son, I didn’t want to trust anyone when it ca to her.
"This way, sir," The man led us to the place where they caught and tied the rogue.
"Do we have everything on the man?" I asked with the hidden aning, and the man nodded in agreent, making hum
’Let take over. I want to interrogate him,’ Reaper said, knowing if the man said one wrong word, my wolf would end up twisting his neck within the blink of an eye without thinking about the consequences. I denied his proposition.
"Let do it," I said, walking to the cell before asking the guard to open it.
His eyes were hollow. That was precisely how I would describe how he looked at .
He looked tired and done with life. Soone ready to accept death. My lips twitched at the sight.
Funny.
Did these rogues really think we won’t really do anything because we can’t have fun torturing them with their dead emotions as expressions?
I sat on the stool before him and tilted my head.
No one said anything for so ti. I kept looking at him until he beca uncomfortable and started looking everywhere but .
"Who did it?" I asked, my voice turning Cold and dark because of how Reaper was trying to gain control over .
"I won’t tell you anything," The man said, and I closed my eyes for a few seconds.
Seriously, sotis, actions like this make cringe and wonder why these people even try to hide the truth when they know they will utter it sooner or later.
"So, we both don’t have much ti to waste. How about you start speaking?" I asked the man, who scoffed at .
"How about you go and fuck yourself, Alpha Maverick? Then again, you don’t need to do it anymore since you found yourself a new bitch. She has so good skin. Seeing her bathing without any clothes-"
Pat!
I punched the person hard across the face to stop him from speaking anything negative about Valencia because as sure as I was with my wolf, if he uttered one more wrong word about her, I would pull his tongue out and chop him into pieces while keeping him alive all the ti as he watches his limbs being sliced into cubes.
"One more word about her, and you will end up being boiled into hot oil," I whispered before tilting my head.
This won’t do.
He was clearly one of those tough heads who think they have the upper hand over everyone and don’t care about their lives.
However, there is hardly a person in this world who doesn’t care about anything.
I wasn’t one of those guys, either.
Before I t Valencia, I used to care about my pack and my people. Keeping them safe was my life’s agenda. And now, after eting her, keeping her safe and living a good life were my mottos and weaknesses.
I can’t see anything happening to her. She was more of my motivation than my weakness.
And just like almost every other human being breathing on earth, this guy has his weakness, too.
"Bring them in," I said to Shadow, who looked at with raised brows before nodding.
He clapped his hands, and as soon as he did that, we saw a lady walking inside with a 3-year-old boy in her hands.
I watched the man’s expression turn grimr as he saw his family right before him, making my lips twitch.
"I knew you wouldn’t tell anything because you don’t fear death, but I am sure their death fears you," I looked at the man, who gulped.
Hesitation and contemplation were evident on his face.
I was in no hurry.
I waited for the man to open his mouth finally.
However, after a few seconds, he didn’t say anything, and I sighed.
He was pretty loyal to his master, like a trained dog.
"Well, I have a fair chance to speak and save your family, but it looks like your secret matters to you more than your family," I stood from my place and walked to the lady who was almost shaking in her place.
I looked into her eyes, and she imdiately reverted her gaze.
"Well, I am sorry, Mrs., but I can’t help you when your husband doesn’t care about your life. I am on a mission to kill all the rogues since I don’t know who exactly has been hurting my family," I whispered.
I looked at the man for a couple of seconds before nodding at Shadow.
The subordinate stepped ahead and forcefully took away the child from the lady.
The kid was crying in pain, and I looked at the little boy.
"What will happen here, rember it for the rest of your life, okay? Your daddy is responsible for this trauma I am about to give you," I said before standing straight.
