VALENCIA’S POV
’What was that scream?’ I asked Aurora as we heard a scream for the third ti.
Like earlier, the stupid fake wolf only scoffed at as if mocking my fear.
Of course, she will mock in a situation like this. She isn’t the one walking into the unknown with her life at stake.
I an, her life was indeed at stake because she was inside ; she wasn’t the one fighting the demons and all these things directly.
It has been more than half an hour since we started walking towards the forbidden forests.
Honestly, though isolated, the way looked like just any other normal path. Apart from the occasional screams, there wasn’t anything worth worrying about, or that was what it looked like.
’Valencia!’ Aurora scread out of nowhere, and I quickly ran behind the tree, taking out my daggers, ready to fight back whoever it was. My gaze was serious, and my heart skipped a beat at the potential danger.
I waited for the attack to happen, but even after a few seconds, nothing happened, and I could not see anything.
’What was it?’ I asked her, and she smiled at .
’Nothing. I was just checking how ready you were to really go into such a risky mission,’ Aurora said.
Rolling my eyes at her, I placed the dagger back around my waist before taking a deep breath and drinking a sip of water.
I didn’t know how far it was since little to no information existed about the forests that led to the forbidden forests.
The stories that many people don’t even cross in these forests are pretty famous in these areas, and hearing such haunting screams, I could see why no one dared to go that close to those forests.
If I hadn’t had to save Theo, I wouldn’t have seen myself going to such places, either.
’Even when they have the possibility of having the red coral,’ Aurora asked , and I cleared my throat.
’Well, sotis people fall into situations when they have to decide to risk their life for a higher good. Things are not exactly in our hands, and we are guided by the divine power of the greater good, which is related to our happiness and --’ I started, but Aurora scoffed at again before I could complete my sentence.
’Just say yes. Why all such dramas?’ she asked, and I humd.
That was right. I would’ve gone. I grinned at her before continuing my way towards the forbidden forests.
’Now shut up. We are nearing the forests sooner or later, and every voice I hear might hold so kind of significance or be a trap,’ I said to Aurora.
As soon as I ended my sentence, I heard an unusual rustling of leaves, making narrow my brows.
I continued to walk, increasing my speed a little, placing my hand on my waist over my dagger just in case anyone thought to sneak up on .
Though I am soone who loves to hear songs while traveling, I knew I couldn’t take that kind of risk here.
"What are you doing here?" I suddenly heard a voice, making look around.
My brows twitched when I didn’t find anyone.
"Who are you?" I asked no one in particular.
"That’s not the answer to my question," the person said.
"That’s not the answer to my question either," I said in return.
"Do you not cherish your life?" The person asked .
I scoffed.
I don’t really think there was anyone who cherished their life like I do. Though I take risks from ti to ti, they are calculative. Besides, a voice inside that tells I won’t be dying so easily always motivates .
"Do you?" I asked, not giving up.
It went silent.
Whoever was talking to went silent, and I thought the person left because they didn’t get the answer they wanted or because they were planning on attacking , but the voice ca again.
"What does cherishing my life an when I am not even alive?" the person asked, and this ti, I paused.
I didn’t want to, but this indeed took off guard.
The person wasn’t alive? Does that an I was talking to a-
"I am a spirit who lives in this forest," The person says.
"Yeah, that’s bullshit. There is nothing like a curse in our world. As much as I believe in supernatural stuff, this isn’t a human’s land where the spirits are supposed to haunt them. And please save the witch’s curse or sothing like that for so naive, stupid, innocent person," I said.
I don’t really lose control over my anger, but there must be a limit to everything.
"You don’t believe ?" The person asked.
"Not a cent," I continued to walk.
"Even when I do this?" The person asked, and before I could ask what they were talking about, I saw clouds forming right before .
’Valencia, hold your breath,’ Aurora said, and I took a deep breath before holding my breath, just as she had guessed.
As soon as I did that, the cloud formation suddenly pushed towards , making the hair on my hands stand. The effect was so bad that I took a few steps back while I struggled to hold my breath.
The white clouds suddenly turned dark as if they contained poisonous smoke, and I struggled to keep my eyes open.
It was hard to decipher if I had to keep my eyes open to look for any possible attack or if I was supposed to close my eyes to protect them from this smoke.
After what felt like an eternity but was probably only a few seconds, the formation stopped, and I fell to my knees because of the sudden impact.
Coughing loudly, I looked at my hands, which were stained with blood.
’Aurora,’ I asked my fake wolf, who usually knows about such aspects, and she took a deep breath.
’It’s not my fault that the forbidden forests feel threatened by our presence,’ She said.
I furrowed my brows and was about to ask her what she ant by such words when my gaze finally fell on the thing in front of .
There was a loud haze that covered what looked like the darkest green trees I had ever laid my eyes on.
The forbidden forests. I whispered to her, and she humd.
But what did she an they suddenly felt threatened by my presence?
Do they think I am so kind of poacher or smuggler who will steal their wood and sell it in the black market?
And now that I think about it, will they really sell well?
I wondered and looked at Aurora, who sighed at as if she was done with my money-minded thinking, and I chuckled at her awkwardly.
