VALENCIA’S POV
"The woman you are talking about, what was she like?" I asked the old man, who looked quite familiar, though I didn’t know where I had seen him before. I led him to a table, as he smiled at my enthusiasm.
He probably thought I was just a curious cat. But how can I explain that the woman was my mother and I was a curious, helpless child who wanted to know more about my parents?
As I made the old man sit in one of the chairs, my gaze t with Maverick, who silently asked if everything was okay, and I nodded at him.
It was heartwarming that he kept a gaze at even while talking to the important alphas about important projects and matters at hand.
"You are quite interested in her, aren’t you?" The man asked, and I nodded.
"It’s the first ti I have heard about a female Alpha. It just intrigues . Sorry if I am taking too much of your ti," I said politely, and the old alpha shook his head.
"Please sit. After my son found his mate, he was usually busy with his Luna. I don’t bla him. He has a family now. After my mate died, I didn’t really have anyone to share my stories with. So it’s definitely a pleasure to have soone to hear ," the old man said.
I smiled at him, feeling a little guilty now.
It was my conscience that told how I was using him for my benefit while he was acting selflessly.
"She was enchanting. It’s a bit peculiar to talk about her when she is no more. She had the charm that used to make people pause and take a deep breath when they used to look at her. I haven’t t a woman with that kind of charm," the old man said.
I felt giddiness in my heart thinking my mom was famous and beautiful like that. She must’ve really made my dad fall for herself hard and head over heels, or why would the man leave the position of the council head for her?
It was strangely making proud, and I blushed on her behalf.
"What was she like character-wise? Did she used to make people fear her?" I asked, excited, and the old man nodded.
"Well, before finding my mate, I was one of the alphas who tried to court her too," the old man chuckled, probably thinking about the old mories or how Mom must’ve rejected him.
"Do you want to see her?" He asked, and I bobbed my head up and down.
But wait. Why does this man have my mom’s picture? I scowled, and as if he could sense my uneasiness, he chuckled.
"It’s a group photo we clicked back in the day. It was to commorate the success of the Garfield project," The alpha said before he pulled out his phone and scrolled the photos in the saved album.
He has many group photos with alphas, which was how they probably used to create mories.
Yes. I was shalessly speaking on his phone.
"Here," he said and showed the photo to .
He didn’t even need to tell which woman among the seven of them was my mom. For so reason, even if my mom was standing in the corner, she had the aura and charm.
She... No. I looked so much like her that I wanted to run my fingers over her photo.
She was so beautiful. Thinking about how she died so early without living her life correctly touched my heart.
"Thank you for telling so much about her. She is a beauty. I can imagine people going head over heels for her," I smiled at the alpha.
The alpha nodded.
"She was beautiful, but not more than my love," The alpha took the phone from my hand before scrolling so photos again.
"Look at my wife. Isn’t she lovely?" The old man said, looking at with a beaming expression.
I looked into his eyes; the love, affection, and adoration for his woman in his eyes, even after she died a couple of years ago made swoon and envy this kind of love.
The thought of having such a kind of love made look at Maverick instantly, and a blush crept up my neck at the realization I was thinking so far into things when we hadn’t even gotten official.
’The man announced you to the world and kissed your hand before his people. I told them you are the first woman for him, and you still think things haven’t gotten official? No matter what Tyler or anyone else says anymore. Aurora said you have been officially labeled as Maverick’s woman in their eyes.
I scowled. I didn’t like the idea of it.
’Why?’ I asked her, and she looked at , confused by what I was trying to say.
’Why am I Maverick’s woman, and he is not Valencia’s man?’ I asked, feeling offended, and Aurora chuckled at my words.
"You like him a lot, don’t you?" The old man said, and I shifted my gaze to him.
I didn’t know what to say to him. Though he seed strangely comforting and like a father figure to , he was still a stranger, and I wasn’t sure if it was alright to open up about such things in front of him.
"It’s okay. I know it’s hard to decide and co to terms with it. However, it’s visible in your eyes. More than your eyes, it’s visible in his actions. He is in love with you," the old man said before turning to look around, stopping his gaze at a particular man.
"That’s my second son. If you feel Maverick is the right choice, I can ask my second son to court you. He is quite a gentleman and is not involved in a girlfriend changing culture. If it cos to position, he handles the African branch of our pack and is quite vigilant with it. He is an alpha, too, and quite handso," the old man said.
Before I could answer and reject his proposal politely, I felt a sudden dark, overbearing aura around , making turn to look to my left.
"It’s quite daring of you, Alpha Desmond, to co to the eting of the strongest alpha and try to court his woman with your son," Alpha Maverick said, gently placing his hand on my shoulders as if staking so kind of claim.
The old alpha, who had been looking approachable and soft as cotton candy, suddenly smirked and leaned back in his chair. His aura changed, and his alpha deanor took over, too, as he looked at Maverick with an equally intense gaze.
"Of course, I can dare. You are the strongest alpha, but we are also the second strongest pack in the world with the largest pack area and people on our side. I don’t see anything wrong with my proposal," the man said. Now that Maverick said his na and the man himself spoke of his designation, I widened my eyes.
Alpha Desmond!
If he was alpha Desmond, then it ans his second son is...
"Well, isn’t this a pleasant surprise?" I heard the familiar voice, and I pressed my lips into a thin line.
"Klaus," Maverick nodded at the man while I refused to turn around and greet him.
Maverick looked at my stiff smile and imdiately knew sothing was off. He massaged his forehead and bent towards .
"Don’t tell he is your lover too," Maverick asked, though he didn’t really look angry about it.
"More like my enemy," I whispered, and Maverick chuckled.
"I don’t doubt it," He whispered before holding my hand and making turn around to look at the man.
Klaus, who had a subtle smile on his face earlier, smirked imdiately as he looked at .
"Well, what do we have here?" He asked, staying subtle about the things between us.
"You arrived late, son. She is Alpha Maverick’s partner for the et," Alpha Desmond said, and I didn’t miss how he cunningly removed the part where he was supposed to say I was Maverick’s woman.
’Well, wasn’t soone fretting over being soone’s woman just a few seconds ago? I think people are right. It’s hard to understand what goes through a female’s head,’ Aurora comnted, and I glared at her, making her grin.
"Alpha Maverick’s partner for the et? Isn’t she quite interesting?" Klaus asked, his gaze boring into mine while I stood equally confident.
I hoped my gaze said I would break his nose again if he said anything about how he found stealing food from his tent during the vacation and how I had kicked the shit out of his people because they wanted to catch .
"Klaus, do you rember the Luna-Alpha I used to tell you about?" Alpha Desmond asked Klaus, and the man nodded.
So, was my mom a famous story in their family? I smiled inwardly.
"I can’t believe her daughter has grown so much," The old man said out of the blue, and I froze for a second.
Did he call her daughter for real? I looked at him, shocked.
