VALENCIA’S POV

"What are you doing here?" Maverick asked as soon as he entered the room, and I shook my head before stepping down from the balcony railings.

"Just thinking," I smiled at him.

"I hope I am a part of it," he winked at , sending those familiar butterflies into my heart. I sighed.

"Tomorrow is the alpha’s et. The alphas would start coming from today’s evening itself. You will be quite busy. Why did you bring here at this ti?" I couldn’t help but ask.

About to drink so water, Maverick placed the glass down and walked to .

He sighed as if tired of sothing, his actions confusing .

He placed my hand over his chest before looking at as if I should be able to understand his words without him speaking.

"This heart feels happy at the thought of returning ho to you," he said.

Heat crept up my neck at his words as the jittery feeling returned, much stronger than before.

He was indeed good with his words.

"Shut up. I have sothing to confess, but I will do it after the alphas et, okay?" I asked, and he looked at before nodding.

He didn’t say much, and his trust in amazed . For once, I wasn’t seeing him in a new light.

Anyone is bound to have questions, and with the amount of suspicions he has against , he was putting his life at risk by being with .

And I know he was doing that even after knowing everything.

Were his feelings that strong?

"So, when do you want to go shopping?" He asked out of the blue.

Shopping? Right. I needed an appropriate dress for the event. If I was going as the alpha’s partner ...

But Tyler would be there, too. I bit my lips. Was there a way to leave this situation and deny going with him?

I looked at Maverick, who was looking at casually. Though he wasn’t as expressive, after observing him for so long, I knew he was excited about having a partner for the first ti.

I didn’t have the heart to tell him no anymore.

I was a bad person, wasn’t I?

I looked down at my hands, unsure.

’You are not a bad person, Valencia, and don’t you dare call yourself that. But I guess it’s about ti you stop being wary of it. You will tell Maverick you are a rogue sooner or later, won’t you?’ Aurora asked , and I sighed.

She was right. I needed to face this.

"You don’t need to worry about that. Just tell the color the if there is any," I said, and he looked up from his phone briefly before tucking my hair behind my ears.

"I insist. You are my partner, and as an alpha, what kind of man would I be if I didn’t take my woman shopping?" He asked.

I smiled at how slickly he called his woman again, and I wanted to correct him, but I knew it would be useless. So, I just sighed, leaving the matter as it was.

"How about in an hour?" I asked, and he nodded his head.

"I will make ti for it accordingly. Do you have sothing to do, or would you like to accompany to the security checkups?" Maverick asked .

Asking a spy if she wanted to accompany him for the security checkups. You weren’t acting too wise, were you, Alpha Maverick? I wanted to ask him but just nodded casually.

I needed to leave this ho. Why? Tory said soone was constantly watching , and I wanted to see who it was.

The only way is to catch him in public because things might go downhill if he saw alone.

"Let’s go," Maverick held my hand, intertwining his fingers with , and I licked my bottom lip.

Strangely giddy.

He took to one of the security spots out of the pack. I was glad he knew I would be uncomfortable with the spots near the pack.

"What about it? The alphas started to arrive already? No. I don’t think there is any need to greet them until they’re older. Show them to the resting space," Maverick said through the call while I looked around at the beautiful setting.

They went out of their way to make this et morable for its aesthetic.

It wasn’t all flowery at all, but the simple setting with the environnt was incredible.

"Also, ensure every room has a common security guidelines pamphlet," Maverick said, catching my attention.

"Pamphlet?" I asked him, and he nodded his head.

"The guidelines say that after a certain area if the alphas want to enjoy the city, they should do it at their own risk. We can’t provide security to every wandering alpha and jeopardize the security here," Maverick said.

I nodded my head in agreent. That sounded like a plausible solution.

"By the way, how many soldiers are guarding this eting?" I asked him as I looked at a few won soldiers eyeing up, making feel conscious.

What? I wanted to ask them, not liking how they looked at , but I refrained from doing anything out of the ordinary that might attract unwanted attention.

"Around 253 soldiers around the pack and 300 out of the pack," Maverick said.

I looked at him wide-eyed.

That many? No wonder the council mbers have been so busy, too. Handling such a large number of soldiers while keeping a lookout for any suspicious activity and the alphas was a tough job.

Thank god I wasn’t involved in any of this.

This reminded of Dylan saying sothing about Mason wanting to et V.

Ha, as if I am going to allow that to happen.

Rolling my eyes, I walked behind Maverick when Shadow walked to us.

"Miss Valencia," he nodded at , and I nodded back, unsure why he looked at like that.

He looked at Alpha Maverick, talking to him through the mind-link, and I didn’t like how Maverick turned to look at , either.

What was going on? Did they catch up on sothing?

Maverick nodded at Shadow, asking him to leave before he looked at .

"What is it? Why are you looking at like that?" I asked him, feeling wary.

"The mall we went to for dress shopping has arranged the things. We shall leave now," Maverick said with a sheepish smile.

I glared at him before following him out of the area. I was about to sit in the car when a car stopped by us.

I was facing the other side and only heard the sound, but the mont that familiar scent wafted through my nostrils, I knew who it was.

My body froze in its place for a second.

"Alpha Tyler," Maverick said.

I closed my eyes. Just one day. Can I have just one day without any event?

"Alpha Maverick, I didn’t know I would get to et you on my way to your place," Tyler said.

I could feel his eyes boring into my head, and it took every ounce of patience inside not to turn and poke his eyes.

"And who might this lady be?" He asked as if he didn’t sll my presence.

Wait. That was right. He couldn’t sll my scent that strongly; no one could because of my absence from a wolf. Only Alpha Maverick could quickly sll and recognize my scent because of his strong senses.

Ummm... Should I give him a little surprise? I smirked in my head.

Alpha Maverick would introduce him to either way. Let’s twist the situation.

My cunning mind started working, and I turned to look at Tyler, whose pupils dilated imdiately.

I grabbed Maverick’s hand and intertwined our fingers.

Maverick looked at briefly, not saying anything, though he must’ve had multiple questions.

"My woman," Maverick said, and it was my turn to look at him with wide eyes.

What the hell? I expected him to say sothing like I was his partner for the alphas’ et or a good friend, but what was his obsession with the term ’my woman’?

"Your woman?" Tyler asked Maverick, but his gaze was focused on .

This was my chance to scare Tyler a little and I was going to do it either way.

I could not call my team here to fight because of the high security, and they were all rogues, but I could handle him myself, right?

"His woman," I said, and I could see a storm of emotions in Tyler’s eyes.

"How is that possible?" He asked and I smiled.

"Why can’t it be possible, alpha Tyler? Last ti I checked, I was single and ready to mingle. Alpha Maverick is my type and soone any female would like to be with," I smirked, fueling his anger more.

"And last ti I checked, you were a ro-" he started but paused, his little pause making more wary.

Why didn’t he say those words? What was he planning?

"The last ti I checked, you were still my woman," Tyler said, and this ti, I was definitely left speechless.

He just didn’t...
