Chapter 480: 481. Kidnapping in the Street

When Lann burst out from the crowd, he realized it wasn’t that ’the girl caused trouble’, but rather ’trouble found the girl’.

Two guys dressed similarly to those who went to Cassandra’s house looking for trouble were forcibly holding Phoebe.

It was the small girl’s legs, struggling vigorously, that kicked and broke a support stick of a vendor selling amphorae.

Then the canopy’s canvas fell, shattering two earthen amphorae.

Lann, a very noticeable figure, erged from the crowd and naturally attracted the attention of the two kidnappers.

One of them, whose face looked like a squashed pear, freed one of the hands restraining Phoebe and drew a bronze short sword from his waist, placing it across the small girl’s neck.

The other walked towards Lann, and his short sword was like a threat, tapping rhythmically in the palm of the other hand.

"This is none of your business, stranger."

The one tapping his hand with the sword stood cautiously two ters away from Lann, eyeing the strange Demon Hunter up and down.

"You’re strong, we don’t want to fight you. But this girl is wanted by our master, and you wouldn’t want to cross our master in Cephalonia."

"The One-eyed People?" Lann asked calmly, "I thought people like you wouldn’t respect mythology that much."

"My master isn’t a Cyclops, he’s human! A powerful human!"

Perhaps due to being wary of Lann, he explained. Normally, he would have impatiently thrust the bronze sword’s blade into the chest of others by now.

But this ti, he was too close to Lann.

Truthfully, the Demon Hunter didn’t care if his master was a human or a Cyclops.

Once the man tapping the sword on his hand stepped into an invisible boundary, Lann’s eyes narrowed instantly.

With a ’tsch’, the leather soles of his Dragon Race shoes rubbed against the ground.

The heavy armor didn’t slow Lann’s movent even a bit.

His launch speed was like that of a massive yet fleeting shadow!

With a ’crack’, the gauntlet-clad hand had already grasped the opponent’s neck and simultaneously snapped the bones inside with a single twist.

As the central nervous system severed, the bronze short sword fell from the man’s hand.

Without even looking, Lann kicked, sending the dropping short sword with a whistling sound straight through the middle of the other person’s throat!

At the mont Lann acted, this person wanted to slash the throat of Phoebe in his arms.

This was indeed a smart person because he knew very well he wasn’t a match.

But he still didn’t understand just how vast the gap was between him and Lann.

After the bronze short sword pierced through his throat, it was as if his neck was tied with a noose pulled by a fierce horse, yanking him brutally backward.

Blood sprayed from the wound in his neck, leaving a large patch of dark red on the dusty road.

The whole process was no more than a fleeting mont.

People nearby who hadn’t fled, or those quietly peeping, let out belated gasps, interspersed with suppressed laughter afterward.

It seed that the One-eyed Person and his subordinates weren’t well regarded.

Lann released the throat of the opponent, causing the body to kick up a cloud of dust on the road.

He stepped forward and pulled Phoebe off the captor’s body.

"Are you okay, Phoebe?"

Lann wiped the blood splatter off the little girl’s face.

Phoebe appeared calm as if she had just had a regular al.

"This ti was alright; last ti they even stuffed a rag in my mouth so I couldn’t bite people."

This nonchalant attitude made Lann frown involuntarily.

"Listen, Phoebe, I don’t know your situation, but a kid should be more careful out here. You almost got kidnapped by a group of bandits! Where’s your family?"

"They were taken away by Poseidon," the little girl said nonchalantly, even telling Lann to relax.

"Nothing will happen! I have Cassandra, and even you! You could be considered my Guardian God, right? After all, I was the first one to see you when you ’descended’, that’s how the stories go."

When Phoebe ntioned ’descended’, she gave Lann a knowing smile.

"I’m not a god or demigod, I’ll reiterate..."

"Alright, alright! I know! It’s our little secret, right?"

Phoebe displayed a knowing smile like a little adult.

The expression prompted Lann to tilt his head and press his temple involuntarily.

"Alright, let’s leave first, then talk. Does this place not have any law enforcent? Kidnapping people in broad daylight?"

"Law enforcent...what?"

Phoebe followed Lann out of the marketplace, bemusedly trying to understand the term Lann used.

"Oh, I get what you an! This is Cephalonia, dirt poor. Other than the wealthy passing through with a few guards, do you really expect a patrol here? Haha."

"If you kill soone, or steal or rob sothing, the One-eyed Person will issue a bounty, letting rcenaries hunt for the reward. That’s it, nothing else."

"Sounds like the One-eyed Person isn’t just a bandit, but more like the King of your island."

Lann comnted calmly.

Phoebe strongly agreed with this statent.

"Marcos often says the One-eyed Person is like any tyrant in this world."

The two had already stepped out of the busy marketplace into the wilderness with just a few steps.

"You can go now, Lann, I can get back on my own."

Phoebe said casually as her sandals crushed the wildflowers by the roadside.

Lann looked down at the little girl who had just experienced an abduction.

"I don’t have anything to do around here."

"How co!" Phoebe’s eyes widened as she incredulously looked up at Lann, "Demigods, heroes are always busy! They have endless tasks and troubles, don’t they?"

"Then perhaps trouble hasn’t found

yet, and the gods haven’t rembered to assign

tasks." Lann didn’t bother correcting Phoebe anymore. "So, are you sure you want to go back on your own?"

"I’ve been living in Cephalonia for years without any problems!"

"Yeah, and today you were nearly taken away in broad daylight."

Lann’s expressionless retort brought an embarrassed smile to the little girl’s face.

A rapid sound of hooves coming from a distance saved Phoebe from her embarrassnt.

Cassandra, riding a nimble white horse, was galloping from afar.

As she reached the two, the horse ca to a smooth stop without issue.

Even in an era where a saddle was just like a cushion, she showed her exceptional riding skills.

Cassandra fitted her horse well, her sunlit skin and figure exuding vibrant health.

She dismounted and walked towards Phoebe.
