Chapter 123: Chapter 123: Coming Through the Storm

In the blink of an eye, the sky outside had darkened further.

The heavens, pitch-black as ink spilled, had endless rain slanting down, with thunder and lightning roaring over Tianshui Village.

Lying in bed and reflecting, Lu Xining turned to look through the window at the curtain of rain, but she suddenly spotted a frail-looking young boy standing in the courtyard.

The fierce wind howled, threatening to blow him away at any mont.

When she opened her door, the bodyguard guarding outside was just about to knock.

“Miss Lu, there’s a child outside looking for you.”

“Let him in.”

The boy walked into the courtyard, hesitating at the doorstep; he seed to be just about ten years old, slight of build, with clear eyes.

She invited him in to warm up and asked, “What do you need from ?”

Clutching his sleeves and with eyes as pure as a newborn’s, the young boy said, “My grandma is sick. Uncle Shan said sister has dicine that can make grandma better.”

Lu Xining had soone bring fever and anti-inflammatory dication to him, and seeing his confused expression, she silently sighed in her heart.

dications couldn’t be taken recklessly—what if it wasn’t a cold?

Lu Xining, with her bag on her back and wearing a thick raincoat, still decided to follow him to see his grandmother.

She took several people with her and followed the boy to his ho.

The elderly woman was lying in bed, her hair white as snow and her appearance ticulously neat, her complexion pale due to sickness.

After examining her and confirming it was a fever, Lu Xining fed her the cold dicine.

The elderly woman expressed her gratitude, “Cough, thank you so much for coming here.”

The violent storm battered the windows, making the inside of the house seem even more serene.

Once everything was packed up, Lu Xining whispered, “It’s nothing.”

Just then, the young boy had changed his clothes and ca out, his eyes clear as water, reflecting like a flawless mirror. He pulled a White Rabbit Creamy Candy from his pocket and offered it to her.

“Sister, I’m Zhouzhou, here’s a candy for you.”

His gesture reminded Lu Xining of Little Dumpling back ho, and she gently refused, “Sister doesn’t eat candy, you have it.”

Lu Xining again ticulously instructed the elderly woman on how to take the dication and, taking advantage of the lighter rain, hurried back ho.

The turbulent storm and thunder added a grim chaos to the normally placid world, with many villagers, clad in raincoats, braving the rain to fix rooftops.

The roadside trees were blown into disarray.

Dressed in her raincoat, Lu Xining hurried back to her residence, and from a distance, she saw a man walking towards her.

In the storm, the man moved quickly.

His sudden appearance added a layer of mystery and uncertainty to the scene unfolding before her.

With the headlights of several cars behind him brightly lit, his tall and lean figure was illuminated, his simple black raincoat outlining his muscular body, and under the brim of his hat, his eyes were darker than the cloud-covered sky.

When Ji Muye had arrived at Tianshui Village, the sky was darker than the deep night.

Compared to other areas of Yun City, Tianshui Village had it sowhat better in terms of rainfall.

When he arrived, the rain had just lessened, and the river at the outskirts of the village had not yet flooded severely.

The increased water flow from the storm had subrged part of the ancient stone bridge, but it didn’t affect the specially raised off-road vehicle that drove over.

Holding a sturdy black umbrella, he strode directly through the water, heading towards the village.

Raindrops driven by the strong wind, mixed with the cold and damp, stread down Ji Muye’s sharply contoured cheeks.

Lu Xining, puzzled, wondered what kind of person would co to Tianshui Village in this kind of weather?

She stopped walking and saw him striding towards her through the rain, appearing solitary and resolute, growing more familiar as he neared.

Suddenly, a flash of lightning split the sky and illuminated the man approaching her rapidly.

…Why was it Ji Muye?

At that mont, Ji Muye also saw Lu Xining. Even though she was wearing a raincoat, her pant legs were already soaked through, and the clothes on her body clung tightly to her skin, making her appear even more fragile and slender.

The relentless rain stread down his jawline, soaking the collar of his shirt.

His lips were tightly pursed, enduring the worry in his heart at that mont.

He didn’t hesitate to quicken his pace and dash into the rain, running through the downpour toward the woman.

“Ji Muye, what are you doing here…”

He threw the large black umbrella aside, and the man tightly hugged Lu Xining, who was wearing a raincoat, with such force it seed as though he wanted to ld her into his bones, letting the rain hit his face.

Lu Xining’s body stiffened like wood, not daring to move at all.

The sudden torrential rain hadn’t caused her much shock or panic, but the man tightly holding her brought her astonishnt.

At the entrance of the village, in the room where Lu Xining was temporarily staying.

Two raincoats hung on the hooks of the room’s door, dripping water continuously, while the inside oven fire burned just right, offering a wave of warmth as soon as one entered, dispelling the chill from the body.

Lu Xining had already changed out of her damp clothes and was now sitting on the heated brick bed to warm up.

Ji Muye, who entered carrying ginger tea, had also changed his clothes, and his hair was still wet; a few strands of hair fell over his forehead, making him look very fresh and handso.

Ji Muye said, “Drink so ginger tea.”

She glanced at the deep blue thermos cup in his hand, not imdiately taking it.

Was this thermos cup one he had used?

She didn’t want to share a thermos cup with her ex-husband after they had divorced.

Just as she was about to say she didn’t need it, the man saw the hesitation in her eyes and clarified, “Don’t worry, it’s new.”

Lu Xining: “…”

Being seen through was a bit embarrassingly awkward.

Lu Xining: “I’m not cold.”

But the man forcefully pushed the thermos cup into her hands, and she could only express her thanks unwillingly.

Lu Xining sipped the ginger tea from the thermos cup, feeling the warmth slide down her throat.

Ji Muye sat by the only table in the room, frowning at the windows rattled by the outside winds.

Lu Xining always had a light sleep, easily awakened by the slightest noise.

The man glanced at the spots where the wind was leaking through the windows, said sothing to Ma Sai at the doorway, and soon, soone brought nails and a hamr. Ji Muye himself reinforced the two windows in the room with wooden boards.

Once everything was taken care of, the sound of the windows shaking indeed lessened a lot.

Lu Xining put down the thermos cup and asked him, “What are you doing here?”

The village’s electrical circuit had been repaired but was still unstable.

The light in her room ca from a camping lamp, providing illumination but not very bright.

Ji Muye returned to the table and said unchanged, “The three children saw the news and were very worried about you, asking to co and take you ho.”

Lu Xining: “???”

She rembered telling Ji Chao and the others that she was on a business trip abroad; the children didn’t know she was in Tianshui Village.

His words were clearly a lie.

But after pondering for a mont, Lu Xining chose not to expose his lie directly.

Saying he ca especially for her?

She didn’t know how to face the truth behind this ‘lie.’

The room instantly quieted down.
