Zhang Yang lowered his head to check the ti on his watch, rubbed his eyes, and was stunned: "Whoa, it’s past four o’clock!!"
"Boss, I’m so hungry! Let’s whip up sothing to eat? We’re out of grub!"
"How about I drive to the town’s supermarket nearby for a look? We’ve had a great fishing day; let’s get so stuff to munch on!"
Old Zhao stood straight up from the tackle box. On the surface, he was seeking everyone’s opinion, but in reality, he had already made up his mind to go if nobody had a better suggestion.
"Forget it, Old Zhao, listen to , let handle today’s al, what do you say?" Seeing this, Brother Ma imdiately jumped down from the fishing platform and walked briskly to Old Zhao.
"What’s up, Brother Ma, are you planning to show off again?" They were all middle-aged n, so Old Zhao understood Brother Ma’s intention and slightly curled his lips as he asked.
Brother Ma nodded openly and said, "Last night’s performance was just so-so, missing so condints and ingredients. Thanks to you guys, the fish was caught beautifully today! Let’s put together sothing nice, and have so good eats tonight!"
"Then enough dawdling; let’s go together! I’ll give you a hand; whatever you say, we do!" Old Zhao directly proposed a compromise.
"Alright! Then let’s go together; take your truck, it’s easier to load stuff!"
"Let’s do this!"
The two middle-aged n hit it off imdiately and drove Old Zhao’s box truck towards the town.
With the main force responsible for procuring dinner gone, Zhang Yang and the others were no longer in the mood to keep hanging around the fishing spot.
There were still so instant foods like sausages and biscuits in the camp supply box, which everyone shared.
Having a good sense, Liu Zi picked up so firewood by the shore, and the few of them set up Old Zhao’s camping kettle to boil.
The fish were biting wonderfully; they ate a bit to fill their stomachs while sipping hot fragrant tea, bonding and chatting—it was an absolutely perfect atmosphere.
"I wonder what good stuff Brother Zhao and Brother Ma will bring back! Without a fridge in the truck, if we had one, we could prepare more at skewers or sothing and have a barbecue tonight! That’s really sothing!"
Han Mocheng slurped a sip from his teacup, recalling the previous night’s outdoor bonfire BBQ with a bit of nostalgia.
Zhang Yang shook his head: "Hard to say, if they’re just driving to the town for supplies, there shouldn’t be too many choices, right?"
"Hey, Brother Yang, what kind of person do you think Brother Ma is? Feels like there’s sothing indescribable about him; his personality is so carefree!" The crowd was chatting leisurely when Xiaobao suddenly popped up with a question.
Xiaobao’s sentint was sothing Zhang Yang also felt; originally, they had only t yesterday and had no other ties except striking up a conversation as fishing buddies.
But after dining together last night, Zhang Yang discovered that Brother Ma wasn’t simple.
For starters, Brother Ma didn’t like to take advantage of people. Although he joined Zhang Yang’s dinner yesterday, the food was mostly brought by Old Zhao, yet Brother Ma volunteered to cook, putting out a whole spread, certainly laboring for the al.
Setting that aside, seeing Old Zhao go to buy things today, Brother Ma tagging along was simple; today wouldn’t be a free al and drink day. He would contribute money and effort to ensure he wasn’t seen as a freeloader.
The middle-aged n are actually a very special group; so are slick, smarter than monkeys, while others, no matter who they interact with, value and strive to maintain their dignity.
Undoubtedly, Brother Ma is the latter; when Zhang Yang gave him his homade Rice for Making Wine, Brother Ma didn’t refuse awkwardly. Zhang Yang bought breakfast, and Brother Ma also didn’t offer to pay, but he compensated through ways he deed reasonable for these newfound friends.
From this perspective, Zhang Yang and the others had a great impression of Brother Ma; knowledgeable, steady and low-key, a good cook, and judging by his car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a standard seasoned middle-aged outdoor veteran.
Zhang Yang shook his head: "Hard to say, feel like Brother Ma is a man with stories! Why overthink it, a chance encounter is fate; fishing trips and team-building are about relaxing, enjoying life, don’t bring the workplace societal rules here!"
With a box of unopened cigarettes, ng Fan started opening and sharing them: "Last night, past midnight, I saw Brother Ma still fiddling with his phone in the car, looked like he was looking at stored photos! Did you hear his drinking talk yesterday, seed like his wife divorced or passed away?"
"Who cares! Their life is theirs to decide. Why are we bunch of n gossiping like village busybodies? Let’s drop this topic! Enough of this nonsense!" Zhang Yang saw his mates getting more gossipy and decisively ended the discussion.
A bit over an hour later, Old Zhao and Brother Ma returned.
As the vehicle just settled, they heard Old Zhao honk several tis, getting out of the driver’s seat while inviting, "Co over, lend a hand unloading the truck! You guys, Brother Ma’s got a major setup, full lamb roast tonight for everyone!"
Before everyone had reacted, Old Zhao opened the back door of the box truck.
Wow, Brother Ma and Old Zhao had done a fine job, taking a spin around town and directly procuring a large rotisserie for roasting whole lamb.
Beside the stand, there’s a skinned goat already strapped on the rotisserie, everything prepared, just start the fire and it’s ready to roast.
"Oh my god, Brother Ma, Brother Zhao, you guys went big! Everybody’s in for a treat!" Han Mocheng, naturally a picky eater, saw the rotisserie and lamb and couldn’t hold back, his eyes gleaming with excitent.
Brother Ma chuckled: "Originally we were thinking about wandering the town supermarket, see any goodies to make a dish, happened to see a BBQ place across from the supermarket, and I imdiately noticed the lamb rotisserie from afar!"
"Luckily inside, there were unbarbecued goats; I checked, these are grass-fed goats, nicely fatty, absolutely delicious for grilling! We grabbed one to savor tonight!"
Old Zhao couldn’t help adding: "You should’ve seen Brother Ma’s spendthrift mode, negotiating with the BBQ owner to rent the rotisserie and buy a goat back; owner wouldn’t agree, Brother Ma straightforwardly offered a price the owner couldn’t refuse and bought the rotisserie!"
"Why not let the owner grill the lamb for us and bring it over? Saves so much trouble, this rotisserie will barely be of use after this once! You’re spending like..."
"Hmm, Xiao Han, you must share similar interests with Brother Ma, enjoying to play by your own rules!"
Brother Ma bit his cigarette and smiled, shaking his head: "Going out to have fun, gotta have the happiness of fun, spending a bit is superficial, having fun perfectly is the point!"
"Instead of the owner grilling and delivering cold, lamb tastes better freshly roasted, lts-in-the-mouth fragrant with thick chops over fire!"
"You, I’ve seen enough! So indulgent!!" Old Zhao shook his head, expressing his feelings.
Brother Ma chuckled warmly: "Don’t stand idle, not only lamb, but quite a lot of veggies from the supermarket too. Let’s divvy up the tasks, aim for everything to be ready once the lamb’s roasted! Out here, been long since things got lively; eting everyone is fateful, cherish it!!"
Brother Ma’s attitude directly had everyone in swing.
Back when Zhang Yang first t Han Mocheng, Han had once pulled off a mobile lamb roast feat, for a long ti becoming fondly talked about within their team.
Now, however, Han Mocheng’s record was broken, as Brother Ma paid top money for a rotisserie to roast and feast lamb alongside newfound fishing buddies, this style—simply impressive.
Extravagant and devoid of humanity!
