Chapter 1084: Buying Instant Noodles for Gu Zi

Without hesitation, Gao Lang forked over a small fortune—five tis the standard price—for two asly motion sickness pills.

Granted, he’d expected a markup, but the sheer audacity of the price still sent a ripple of disbelief through the group. “Absolute daylight robbery,” soone muttered.

Passengers nearby, who had just been toying with the idea of purchasing the pills themselves, imdiately retracted their intentions, whispering among themselves, “Forget it. We’ll just hold it in. Even puking seems more reasonable than throwing money at that kind of scam. I an, those people bought sleeper seats—they’re obviously loaded. We’re not in their league.”

Gao Lang paid the mutterings no mind. His focus was on his son. He gave Gao Ming the dication, and rcifully, the child stopped retching. But he wilted completely—no longer the bright-eyed boy eager to soak in the scenery with Su Li. Now, just sitting upright seed an insurmountable task.

Gao Ming had been so excited about his first train ride, imagining it would be an unforgettable adventure with his friend. Instead, he ended up listless and pale, slumped against his father’s shoulder, fast asleep within minutes.

Su Li watched his friend quietly for a while, concern flickering across his features, but the pull of childhood curiosity soon got the better of him. Not long after, he’d imrsed himself in a whirlwind of gas with the other children on the train.

He had brought along a Go board, and in no ti, he was holding court in the aisle, the undisputed star of the sleeper car. Su Li won every match with effortless flair, earning admiration and wide-eyed gasps from the other kids.

Back straight, chest puffed out, Su Li basked in his mont of glory. As long as he wasn’t playing against the likes of his older brother Su Bing, who was almost terrifyingly good, or the brilliant Gao Ming, when he wasn’t motion-sick, or the elusive Xu Sheng, whom he had yet to beat even once, Su Li was a legend in his own right.

“That was nothing,” he said smugly, as he prepared another move. “Here, watch closely—I’ll teach you a killer trick.”

anwhile, Su Shen was on parenting duty.

Gu Zi, curled up in a window seat, was gazing dreamily at the ever-changing landscape. She was undeniably striking—elegant, poised, effortlessly out of place in the drab train car—and it wasn’t long before she began to draw attention.

A pair of female students passed by, unable to contain their curiosity. One of them whispered excitedly, “Did you see her? She has to be a celebrity. She’s gorgeous! She doesn’t even look like she belongs on the sa planet as us.”

Her companion, equally smitten, sighed. “If she were at our school, she’d be the undisputed campus queen. Did you see her hair? That soft, bouncy curl—so chic. Do you think I could pull it off?”

Back in the world of grown-ups, a few passengers were looking for a fourth player for a ga of cards and turned to Su Shen. He politely declined, scooping up the sleepy Su Le from the floor. “I’m on kid duty,” he said with an apologetic smile. “Maybe another ti.”

Gu Zi watched this unfold with faint amusent and a tinge of satisfaction. Good—he was being responsible. She was feeling a little worn out, and now she could rest easy.

Turning to Su Shen, she said, “Lele will need her formula soon. Don’t forget to make it for her. I’ve already boiled water in the kettle—should be just the right temperature. I’m going to catch so sleep.”

Su Shen gently pulled a blanket over her midsection and nodded. “Got it. Rest while you can. I’ll wake you up in a bit—you don’t want to sleep too long and end up wide awake tonight.”

Whether she heard him or not, no one could say. Within monts, Gu Zi had drifted off, lulled by the rhythmic hum of the train.

About twenty minutes later, Su Shen gently tried to wake her. But she groaned, turned over with an exaggerated huff, and pulled the blanket over her head like a stubborn child.

Well, that was that.

Later that evening, Su Shen returned with boxed als in hand.

Gu Zi stirred at last, squinting at the darkened window and then at the food neatly laid out on the little table. She stared at him accusingly. “It’s already dinner ti. Why didn’t you wake ?”

Su Shen smiled with warm indulgence. “I tried. You didn’t respond. You must’ve been exhausted. No harm in getting a little extra rest.”

She rubbed her temple, trying to recall—but she rembered nothing. Zero. Her stomach growled softly. “What’s in them?” she asked. “I want sothing light.”

With the gentle patience of a man well-trained in the fine art of keeping her happy, Su Shen opened both boxes and explained, “One has stir-fried carrots with eggs and seasonal greens. The other has stead egg custard with braised eggplant and green beans. Take your pick—whichever one you don’t want, I’ll eat. And if neither works for you, I’ll grab you so instant noodles.”

Gu Zi blinked at him, taken aback by his unflinching attentiveness. She picked up her chopsticks, paused, and instead reached out to gently pinch his cheek.

“Boss Su,” she murmured with a sly smile, “you’re supposed to be cold and domineering. Don’t go getting soft on like this.”

Because the truth was, with Su Shen around, she didn’t have to lift a finger. He anticipated her needs, t every request, and never lost patience—even when she was being finicky.

She really didn’t feel like eating boxed food. Noodles sounded way better.

Su Shen blinked at her little gesture, then stood up, already reaching for his wallet. “I’ll get you your noodles. These can go to Su Li and the kids.”

The mont Su Li heard the word noodles, his eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. He glanced at the boxed als in front of him—suddenly, they looked utterly unappetizing. Tugging at Su Shen’s pant leg, he pleaded, “Daddy, too! I want instant noodles too! Please get one!”
