Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue lined up with the children at the back, the children in front, and them behind.

The two guards saw this and also opted for rolls instead of buns.
Director Lin hurried over, saying, “How can the leaders not have buns after getting them?”
“It’s alright, the rolls are nice. Leave the buns for the children.” As they were at the end of the line, there was no rush to leave. After saying this, Feng Qingxue asked, “Do you have plates? I’d like so pickled radish; the rolls go well with pickles.”
She noticed a yellow enal basin filled with chopped pickled radish on the table.
Upon hearing this, Director Lin promptly fetched two plates, filled them with pickled radish, and placed them on Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue’s table.
The atmosphere in the canteen was very lively. Most of the children were taking small bites of the buns, savoring the aroma of the at filling, and the earnestness with which they cherished it made Feng Qingxue feel a bit heartbroken.
The rolls were made with wheat bran mixed with sweet potato and corn flour. For those accustod to white flour stead buns, the taste was sothing not to be ntioned.
Except for Xibao and his siblings, who had been well-nourished since childhood, everyone else had experienced hunger at so point. A bite of roll, a sip of porridge, plus a bite of pickled radish, made for what seed like a natural al.
Kids always think adults are eating sothing delicious; the triplets paused in their bun-eating.
Lu Erxiong gobbled down a bun, jumped off the chair, and scooted over to Feng Qingxue, eyeing the dark mixed grain roll in her hand, “Mom, I want to try the roll too; it looks different from the ones at ho.”
Of course, it was different. The rolls at ho were usually made with flour and cornal, with flour being the majority.
Feng Qingxue broke off a small piece from the roll she had bitten, held it to his mouth, “Let tell you first, Erxiong, once you bite into it, you have to chew and swallow it. No spitting it out, or I’ll spank your bottom!”
Lu Erxiong readily agreed, but after chewing for a couple of tis, he froze.
It tasted so bad, coarse and astringent!
“Swallow it!” Feng Qingxue’s bright eyes pinned on him sternly.
Lu Erxiong pursed his lips, swallowed it, then imdiately ran back to his seat and took a big bite of the remaining bun.
Mmm, at buns were still tastier.
“Fourth brother, are the rolls good?” Zhuangzhuang asked him. He and Dundun were eager to try as well, but seeing Lu Erxiong’s expression, they knew it must not taste good and quickly backed down.
Lu Erxiong shook his head vigorously, “Not good, not good at all, it scratches the throat.”
Feng Qingxue glanced at Dundun and Zhuangzhuang who were obediently eating their buns, thinking they had to try it even if it tasted bad.
You might dodge it once, but not forever.
The sweet potato porridge here wasn’t like the one at ho which was made by cooking rice with sweet potato. Instead, it was purely sweet potato, crushed and soaked overnight, then cooked with a large pot of clear water. There was nothing else, just thin soup, and when ladled into the bowl, three-fourths was water, with only one-fourth sweet potato.
