Chapter 1563: Chapter 1563 Mission Accomplished 1

The adults in the main room were also talking. Cheng Baoguo added a bit more about Erya’s family situation.

Her na is Erya because she had a twin sister before her nad Daya. Daya was born with health problems, so the sisters were only given childhood nicknas. In the end, Daya passed away when she was three. Her father still has parents and brothers, but unfortunately, none of them are willing to raise her.

With a lack of food and clothes, life is hard. There aren’t many people willing to raise soone else’s child.

Cheng Baoguo took out a very old tin box from his army-green shoulder bag and handed it over to Lu Jiang. “Old Liu said that when Liu Zhenguo left Yuanyuan in his care years ago, he gave them thirty silver dollars and a pair of small silver bracelets. These thirty dollars—Old Liu and his wife, who passed away a few years ago—never had the heart to spend. They kept it along with the bracelets, and now that Yuanyuan is gone, they’re being left for Erya. Consider it as proof for Comrade Liu Zhenguo. You just take this and the photos and give them to Liu Zhenguo.”

Having children but not raising them, and then not even looking for them afterward, made Cheng Baoguo indignant. So many people want children but can’t have them. And yet, there are people who get to have children but don’t even care. During the war years, sure, that’s one thing. But after the founding of the country, when they climbed the ranks, why didn’t they go looking? Old Liu had never moved houses. Could it be that they really stopped caring just because they already had so many kids?

Lu Jiang put the photos Cheng Baoguo had given him earlier into the box. “Alright, I’ll give it to him when I find him.”

“Forget about them. Let’s talk about our own family matters. Ajiang and Xiaoxue aren’t back ho, so they don’t know anything about what’s going on there. When you ca, didn’t Second Brother give you any ssages for us?”

Prompted by his wife, Cheng Baoguo rembered. “There’s good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”

“Start with the bad news,” Lu Jiang said.

Feng Qingxue interjected, “Let’s hear the good news first.”

The couple had differing opinions. They looked at each other, and Lu Jiang imdiately reacted, “Of course, the good news first!”

Resolutely following his wife’s lead, he changed his tone so smoothly it was seamless.

Cheng Baoguo and Wang Cuilan exchanged amused glances when they heard this.

“Alright, alright, good news first.” Cheng Baoguo organized his thoughts before speaking. “Before I retired, I found jobs for Tianzhi and Guan Yu—one at the recycling station, the other at the library.”

Feng Qingxue guessed, “I bet Tianzhi went to the recycling station, and Ayu went to the library.”

Tianzhi was into calligraphy and painting, and he often visited the recycling station. Guan Yu loved reading storybooks—he clearly had his eyes on the library.

Their schoolwork had never fallen behind. Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue both planned for them to take the college entrance exams, so these jobs were just a temporary arrangent.

Cheng Baoguo said, “You really know them well. When I asked what kind of jobs they wanted, they both chose on their own. These aren’t cushy positions, so no one competed for them. I got them arranged pretty easily.”

There’s a lot of informal give-and-take between governnt agencies. Cheng Baoguo shared a al with soone and dropped a hint, and things were settled.

Although many state agencies, factories, and similar places give hiring priority to those with urban household registrations—and there are often educational requirents as well—every year, there are still a small handful of spots reserved for rural residents, even though the quotas are pitifully few. Lu Tianzhi and Guan Yu both had high school diplomas, which wasn’t a low level of education.

With the two nephews taken care of, Feng Qingxue turned her attention to the family elders and Xibao. She asked in detail about how they were doing with food, clothing, living conditions, everything.

Cheng Baoguo raised both hands as if surrendering. “Everyone is doing fine. Really fine. Second Brother and Xibao are doing well. The old folks at ho are all in good health, except for Old Master Lu the Third—he’s passed away.”
