Chapter 1439: Chapter 1439: Xibao Enters the Capital 3

As soon as Jin Laoqi finished speaking, Qiao San couldn’t help but burst into hearty laughter, nearly bringing himself to tears.

“Jin Laoqi, oh Jin Laoqi, why do you take things for granted after thinking about them for so long? Gold is solid currency; it’s always right to save a little more for oneself,” said Qiao San as he wiped his eyes and took a swig of Erguotou. “Besides, you don’t know their nas, don’t know where they are. How do you plan to leave all that treasure you’ve hidden to them? Before you plan, you need to find the people first.”

“You’re right, I need to find the people first.” Even though he was being laughed at by Qiao San, Jin Laoqi still didn’t reveal that he had already found the rightful owner.

Upon further thought, gold was indeed very important. When jewelry and antiques lost their value, gold remained in circulation. During the chaos of war, all valuable purchases required gold, and it couldn’t be spent carelessly.

Gold wasn’t to be spent, but Jin Laoqi planned to leave the jewelry and antiques to the Lu Family, and this started to worry him about his future.

Relying just on that modest salary and food supply was a sure way to starve soone to death.

Qiao San didn’t know what was going through his mind; he took a bite of pig’s head at and squinted contently, having gone a long while without at. “It’s a vast sea of people without fixed nas or surnas; we live every day under close scrutiny, making them hard to find.”

“There’s nothing too difficult for soone determined,” said Jin Laoqi, taking a bite of the pig’s head at as well.

Qiao San nodded and then shook his head. “The Aisin Gioro clan sure has plenty of people, right? Yet you go looking for soone with a different surna; aren’t you afraid that your own clan mbers will settle scores with you?”

A hint of mockery flashed in Jin Laoqi’s eyes. “Although we belong to the Prince Yi line, descendants of Emperor Kangxi, our branch has fallen on hard tis. Their ancestors and mine were brothers. My ancestor fell into disgrace, while theirs rose to prominence and produced an emperor till the last. We never intended to curry favor, not in the past generations, nor in mine. But the old lady who married out, she was the real daughter of my ancestor, and we share the sa bloodline.”

“All this talk of this and that ancestor, I can’t make heads or tails of it,” Qiao San said, not bothering to think to much about it and raised his cup towards Jin Laoqi. “We two old n, unfortunate in the sa way, guarding a cesspit, might as well drink our Erguotou and eat our pig’s head at. That’s better than anything, better than anything,” he paused for effect, “is to stay alive. Look at those who are in power now; they might not live as long as we do.”

With a hearty laugh, Jin Laoqi replied, “Right, being alive is good, living a long life is even better. Let’s strive to live on. Every ti a dynasty changes, there’s chaos for decades, and it’s been over twenty years now. At most, another ten years and things should stabilize.”

Leaving Qiao San’s ho in a sway, Jin Laoqi, flashlight in hand, walked ho through the night.

As soon as he entered the courtyard, he sensed sothing was amiss.

On the surface, his ho had nothing valuable, just so pots and pans, so clothes and bedding, and a bit of crude grain that conford to standards, but he had plenty of hidden treasures, which is why he always locked the door when coming and going.

But now, in front of the main house’s door, there was a broken basket.

In the pitch-dark night, he nearly mistook it for a person sitting there.

Moving closer to check, he found several bags of grains inside: flour, cornal, and even rice, totaling thirty pounds. The stitchwork on the cloth bags was different from the ones he had seen before. With a smile in his eyebrows, Jin Laoqi muttered to himself, “While different, it could still be made by soone else. Could these grains have been sent by that kid? The wall around my house is not low; there’s no way she could climb over it.”

That kid referred to Feng Qingxue.

Lu Jiang is currently in Baozhou, with the Viva Army stationed there. Jin Laoqi had also managed to find out a few days ago.
