Chapter 1383: Chapter 1383 Fiery Eyes, Golden Gaze 1 Chapter 1383: Chapter 1383 Fiery Eyes, Golden Gaze 1 The Lu Family never had family etings where children challenged the authority of their elders, no need for bittersweet reminiscences.
Luckily, it was already February of the solar calendar, so they were able to find just a little bit of early sprouting wild vegetables. Otherwise, how would they prepare the bittersweet reminiscence rice?
Look at their family, with a full table of dishes, chicken, fish, at, eggs—everything was colorful, fragrant, and flavorful. The al made the children beam with joy, even Fubao and Zhuangzhuang, who usually had small appetites, followed suit by drinking half a bowl of chicken soup and gnawing on a chicken drumstick.
After such a big al, worried about the kids’ digestion, Qingxue hurriedly brought out a few cans of Shanzha.
Uh, her homade Shanzha preserve, guaranteed clean and sanitary.
The sour and sweet Shanzha juice, which had been cooked with a bit of dried tangerine peel, was a favorite among the kids, except for Lu Erxiong who scrunched up his face, “Sour, I don’t want to drink it. I want to eat peanut candy!”
Since today was New Year’s Eve, Lu Jiang and Feng Qingxue didn’t fuss over him, especially since there was only one piece of peanut candy left in the dish.
Lu Jiang exclaid with a note of surprise, “How co there’s so little left?” He rembered that they had made plenty of fried fruits and atballs. Could they still be in Feng Qingxue’s space? That shouldn’t be, wasn’t she afraid of arousing the children’s suspicions later?
Guan Yu, after drinking half a bowl of Shanzha juice, said, “We gave so to uncles and aunts who are close to us, so only what’s left is for us to eat.”
Being selfish in eating is not a tradition at the Lu’s.
Of course, they had been selective about what they could give away. Items like chicken, fish, at, and eggs that were bought from the black market were not to be seen by others, not even an eggshell had been allowed to be discovered.
Under the table, Lu Jiang’s hand found his wife’s.
Between them, words were no longer necessary to convey the emotions in their hearts.
After finishing the peanut candy, Lu Erxiong licked his sticky fingers, “Mom, I want more!”
“There’s none left!” Lu Erxiong’s appetite was probably the best in the family, even surpassing Xibao’s when he was younger. Afraid that Erxiong would not believe her, Qingxue purposefully showed him the empty plate that had held the peanut candy.
When he saw the empty plate, Erxiong’s big eyes started to roll around, “I’ll eat it tomorrow!”
All for the sake of eating, he had beco particularly eloquent.
Lu Jiang spoke idly, “You want to eat peanut candy tomorrow, huh?”
Seeing Erxiong nodding vigorously, Lu Jiang humd in response, “Well then, you can have peanut candy, and everyone else will eat at buns.”
Qingxue had kept a piece of pork belly frozen in the ice bucket, to make dumplings or wontons for the children. There were also plenty of cakes and candies left uneaten, as the little ones had limited capacity, and the older ones were too preoccupied with the New Year’s Eve dinner.
At the prospect of at buns, Erxiong’s saliva almost dripped, “Eat peanut candy! Eat at buns!”
The little fellow was not willing to miss out on anything, which made everyone laugh.
Fubao, after a sip of Shanzha juice, said, “Erxiong really loves to eat, I’m almost embarrassed to take him out to play.”
If it were any other child, such words surely would have caused anger, but it was Erxiong after all. To anything negative said about him, his ears were stuffed with donkey hair, automatically filtering it out, even though he was just a little over two years old.
Even though they drank Shanzha juice, Qingxue was still worried about the children overeating, so she asked Lu Jiang to take them for a walk around the yard.
Zhuangzhuang was the exception; he was too weak.
After circling round and round, Erxiong asked, “Dad, why are we walking in circles? I’m so tired!”
“You’ve eaten too much,” Lu Jiang replied without a second thought.
“I did not!” Erxiong refused to admit he had eaten the most amongst the triplets, his tender voice rising in pitch as he stretched out a pinky and pinched its tip, “Just a tiny bit, a tiny, tiny bit.”
