The mont Wang Yuejin finished speaking, many people nearby burst into uproarious laughter.

His words stunned the lead officer in the big-brimd hat, who glanced at his colleagues.

They looked just as confused. They had no idea what was going on, and they certainly hadn’t seen any girl.

One of the officers sneered and issued a stern warning. "Comrade, don’t you spew nonsense. We’re here on official business. If you keep making things up, I’ll have you arrested imdiately."

"I... I’m not making things up."

"Comrade Officers, we really aren’t lying. We’re with the Lin Family..."

Before Wang Dashu could finish, a middle-aged man who had just gotten out of the car behind them cut him off with a harsh rebuke.

"Hmph! Still trying to argue? This is the scene of a special agent’s assassination. What girl could possibly be here?"

"Comrade, we were just passing by. Why are you taking us away?" Wang Yuejin was starting to get frantic.

His family had been farrs for eight generations, and his father had finally managed to beco the village’s production brigade leader.

If he got thrown in jail, how could his father and brothers ever show their faces again?

A wave of despair and indignation washed over Wang Yuejin. His eyes turned red, and tears welled up.

He never imagined things would escalate to this point. They had only co back to check on that girl.

"Because we need you to give a statent," another officer explained kindly, seeing Wang Yuejin on the verge of tears.

"If you have questions, just ask us now. There’s no need to arrest us, right? We didn’t do anything!"

Wang Gousheng said, his voice thick with tears. If they were taken away by the officers, how could they ever face the people back in their village?

’And just a mont ago, I was dreaming of returning ho in glory!’

Seeing their panicked state, the lead officer grew even more certain of his suspicions, and his expression darkened.

The n behind him looked furious upon hearing this. One of them barked, "You’re coming back with us to explain everything in detail."

"We really didn’t—" Wang Yuejin started to argue, but the lead officer cut him off.

He commanded loudly, "All of you, shut up! You are now considered suspects. Please co with us to assist in the investigation."

"I’m the live-in son-in-law of the Lin Family! We..." Wang Dashu shouted.

He was going for broke. The middle-aged man clearly didn’t like him ntioning the Lin Family, so he was going to lean on their na even harder.

Even though he wanted nothing to do with marrying into the Lin Family, what was the harm in using their na as a shield to avoid being frad?

Sure enough, the middle-aged man sternly interrupted him. "Xiao Li, perhaps they were just passing by. Let them go."

"Yes, sir." The lead officer bowed in agreent, then went to direct his n to tie up the man in black and put him in the car.

The middle-aged man walked up to Wang Yuejin and his two friends. "You can go. And try not to wander around aimlessly in the future."

Wang Yuejin was speechless at this turn of events, but Wang Dashu was quick to nod and bow, thanking the man. "Thank you, sir! We’ll be on our way."

The three of them scrambled onto the motorcycle, which roared to life and sped off in a cloud of dust.

Wang Yuejin rode on instinct, not knowing how long he’d been driving. He had completely forgotten Gu Jiaojiao’s words.

It wasn’t until the motorcycle sputtered to a stop that Wang Yuejin realized he had subconsciously driven to the Xu Family’s doorstep.

He was just about to kick-start the engine and leave when he noticed a familiar figure standing beside him.

Looking closer, he saw it was his goddess, Xu Lin. She was staring at him without blinking, her eyes shimring with tears.

Wang Yuejin’s heart trembled, and a wave of warmth washed over him. Xu Lin was his first love.

Although she was often hot and cold with him, he hadn’t been too heartbroken. He knew the gap between them was too wide for things to ever work out.

But he had always cherished this beautiful connection. After all, his feelings had been genuine, and Xu Lin had, in her own half-hearted way, accepted them.

This afternoon, when he learned that Xu Lin had recomnded them to the Lin Family as scapegoats, he had resolved never to see her again.

He had thought that was the end of it between them, but now, here she was, her beautiful face streaked with tears.

’Is she crying out of regret?’ Wang Yuejin’s heart pounded with excitent, thrill, and emotion.

It was a feeling he couldn’t put into words. His heart was filled with a sweetness, as if he had drunk honey.

He couldn’t resist reaching out to touch Xu Lin’s delicate hand, sothing he often did back in the countryside.

After seeing Xu Lin again this ti, he hadn’t dared to touch her hand. He smiled and said, "Silly girl, why are you crying?"

"Brother Yuejin, I just heard them say the officers were going to arrest you," Xu Lin said, choking back sobs.

’I can’t believe things turned out this way. These three country bumpkins actually ca back completely unscathed!’

Hearing this, Wang Yuejin smiled and gently patted the back of Xu Lin’s hand. "Don’t be scared, Linlin. I won’t get into trouble."

Xu Lin hugged Wang Yuejin tightly, burying her head in his chest as she plotted her next move. She absolutely would not allow this country bumpkin to run wild in front of her.

Wang Yuejin never expected Xu Lin to have a change of heart and even hug him on her own accord. Thrilled, he hugged her back passionately.

Each with their own agenda, the two of them held each other quietly, savoring this final mont of happiness.

At that mont, Wang Yuejin suddenly thought that this simple happiness was actually quite nice. At least for now, he could have Xu Lin.

Seeing this, Wang Dashu couldn’t help but shake his head. He knew Xu Lin must be cooking up another sche to harm their Brother Yuejin.

Passersby who saw the scene also shook their heads, lanting the foolish love of today’s youth.

"Hey! Can’t you two be more mindful of your surroundings? Stop being so clingy in public, will you?" a sarcastic voice called out.

Hearing this, Xu Lin quickly broke free from Wang Yuejin’s embrace, her face flushing red with anger as she lowered her head.

"Are you two courting?" a girl from the Xu Family asked, a pang of jealousy in her heart as she saw Wang Yuejin and Xu Lin’s intimacy.

"Third Cousin, don’t talk nonsense! How could he possibly be my boyfriend?" Xu Lin said with disdain.

"If you’re not a couple, then why were you hugging?" the third Xu cousin asked, unconvinced.

"SOB... Third Cousin, he’s a hooligan! I was just walking down the street, and he suddenly jumped out and grabbed ! SOB SOB..."

Wang Yuejin was stunned. Xu Lin was dead set on sending him to prison. All his earlier excitent had gone to the dogs.

His deep eyes turned as cold as a blade.

Regret crashed over him like a tidal wave, completely consuming him. Never before had he hated his own foolishness so much.

Wang Gousheng was shocked numb, utterly stupefied!

"Xu Lin, how can you lie like that?! You were clearly the one who hugged our boss first!" Wang Dashu roared in anger.
