Zhang Yulan had already returned to normal. Seeing Su Xiaoxiao still dazed, she quickly urged, "I’m guessing it’s about the sales manager position, Xiaoxiao, hurry and go."
Su Xiaoxiao snapped out of it, nodded, and quickly headed upstairs straight to the general manager’s office.
At the doorway, she took a deep breath twice and knocked on the office door.
Inside, Yan Guohua’s steady voice quickly ca through.
"Co in."
Su Xiaoxiao pushed the door open and entered, feeling inexplicably nervous.
"Xiao Su, there’s no need to be nervous. I called you here to discuss the sales manager position again."
Yan Guohua had a gentle smile on his face, looking at Su Xiaoxiao with appreciation.
"You previously declined, saying you were too young to be capable. Now you’ve proven your ability with the orders, so there’s no reason to turn it down."
This ti, Su Xiaoxiao didn’t intend to refuse. Previously, she was hesitant, fearing she would be accused of favoritism, and even if she got the manager position, she wouldn’t be stable.
Now she has gained everyone’s recognition with her strength; there is no need to be modest.
She imdiately straightened her back, "General Manager, rest assured, I will do my best and live up to your expectations."
"Great, great, great. The appointnt notice will be posted tomorrow. Do a good job, I’m counting on you."
With a lively atmosphere between them, Su Xiaoxiao felt light on her feet as she went downstairs.
Zhang Yulan and Qin Shuang noticed her relaxed expression and knew the deal was done, quickly moving in.
"Xiaoxiao, how did it go?"
Both spoke in unison, with eager tones.
Why did she feel like they were more excited about her promotion than she was?
She smiled mysteriously and lowered her voice, "The announcent will be posted tomorrow."
"Wow, Xiaoxiao, you’re amazing! No, we should call you Manager Su now."
Zhang Yulan squealed quietly, almost happier than if she herself were made manager.
Qin Shuang also looked delighted.
With this good news, the three of them were in an excellent mood throughout the afternoon at work.
Busy tis always pass quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was ti to get off work.
Su Xiaoxiao stretched, having been at the departnt store for so long; it was her first ti resting. She used to be too poor for this, but now she’s a little rich lady, not caring about this salary.
Rembering that she had plans with Zhou Cheng to dine at the state-run restaurant today, she bid farewell to Qin Shuang and Zhang Yulan, quickening her pace as she walked outside, only to be stopped by soone not far away.
"Su Xiaoxiao, have you considered the matter I ntioned before? Being friends with is like hitting the jackpot."
Niu Xiaoli raised her chin, a proud expression on her face.
"Sorry, I have sothing to do, I’m leaving first."
Su Xiaoxiao didn’t want to waste her ti arguing with a spoiled heiress and tried to bypass her to leave, but her wrist was suddenly grabbed.
"Su Xiaoxiao, do you know who my dad is? Refusing to be friends with is your loss."
Looking down at her grabbed wrist, Su Xiaoxiao slightly exerted force to free her hand, "Sorry, I really must leave."
Having said that, she turned and left without looking back.
Niu Xiaoli didn’t expect her to react this way; usually, people she t would fawn over her, but Su Xiaoxiao couldn’t be bothered.
"Xiaoli, not leaving yet? Want to co along?"
A warm voice ca from behind.
"Oh, are you still thinking about befriending that Su Xiaoxiao? Tomorrow she’ll be the sales manager, and surely won’t think much of us ordinary shop assistants. You might as well give up — she’s just a poor girl from the countryside, hardly worthy of being your friend..."
Wang ili’s words were full of disdain toward Su Xiaoxiao while flattering Niu Xiaoli.
In truth, she looked down upon them both — one lucky, the other privileged due to her father. Tsk, they’re the sa.
Especially Niu Xiaoli, plump and silly, with a backward mindset. If not for her family’s wealth, Wang ili wouldn’t bother.
"Get lost! Who said you could talk about her!"
The next mont, Niu Xiaoli’s expression suddenly changed, shoving her aside and turning to leave.
"Hmph, acting like a spoiled brat? She looks like an intelligent pig."
Though displeased, Wang ili didn’t dare confront her, opting instead to grumble behind her back and harshly cursing Niu Xiaoli’s ancestors.
...
Su Xiaoxiao was pushing her bike to the entrance when she spotted a tall figure standing in the shade from afar.
The tall man wore a well-fitted military uniform. His straight back and neat buzz cut highlighted his impeccable bone structure, looking like soone straight out of a comic.
Seeing Su Xiaoxiao co out, Zhou Cheng’s lips curled into a gentle smile as he walked over.
His impressive appearance drew the attention of many young won nearby.
Watching his long legs easily step up to her, Su Xiaoxiao subconsciously glanced down at her own legs.
Though at 165cm, she wasn’t short nor were her legs, standing in front of him made them feel inadequate.
Her mind unhelpfully supplied: "Legs longer than life."
"Ahem, Captain Zhou, good evening."
Shaking off random thoughts, she greeted him first.
Zhou Cheng nodded, "Ready to eat now?"
"Sure."
Su Xiaoxiao nodded. The next mont, the bike in her hands was naturally taken over by Zhou Cheng.
The roughness of his slight touch on her hand made Su Xiaoxiao’s cheeks warm, "Thank you."
"Ah, it’s the least I can do."
Zhou Cheng’s smooth voice carried like a cello, stirring the air with soft vibrations.
This gesture felt a tad too intimate, so Su Xiaoxiao hastened her steps, fearing she’d bump into soone they knew.
Zhou Cheng pushed the bike, effortlessly matching her pace with his long legs and even slowing down cooperatively.
Trying to distance herself silently, Su Xiaoxiao cursed her own short legs.
The state-run restaurant wasn’t far and they arrived within minutes.
Zhou Cheng picked a spot to park and lock her bike for her.
Bicycles were rare and easily swiped away back then.
Together they walked into the restaurant, imdiately catching the busy Zhang Xiaohong’s eye as she served dishes. She greeted enthusiastically, "Xiaoxiao, you’re here? Oh, did you bring soone? He’s handso!"
Her voice was loud enough to draw the attention of the restaurant’s patrons.
Everyone’s gaze fell on the pair.
Su Xiaoxiao’s toes curled awkwardly inside her cloth shoes, wishing she could dig a castle out of the ground.
How could she forget — she had an overly hospitable pseudo-sister working here?
She quickly attempted to clarify, "Sis, we’re not—"
Her words were interrupted by Zhang Xiaohong.
