Yu Fengji moved like a nimble leopard, stepping out of the corridor, his eyes fixated on Fu Xinwu as if he wanted to devour her.

Fu Xinwu shot a fierce glance at Yu Fengji, and grumbled, "Does your police departnt not have standards? Accepting everyone and anyone."

"She’s an intern." Yu Fengji didn’t take his gaze off her.

"Then she definitely won’t pass the internship. She alone could drag down the entire police team’s standards."

"Hmm! You’re right." He silently agreed in his heart, telling himself that she was right in everything she said. He had been uneasy about letting her go back alone, so he intended to follow her to make sure everything was fine, but he never expected to encounter such a situation.

Just monts ago, the joy he felt upon hearing her say in person that he was her man was indescribable.

Yu Fengji gazed at her with intense longing, taking slow steps toward her, wanting to hold her tightly in his arms and never let go.

Fu Xinwu had a sudden spark of insight, thought of sothing, and imdiately turned to run, quickly getting into her car, closing the door, fastening her seatbelt, starting the engine, and stepping on the gas all in one swift motion, leaving behind nothing but exhaust as the car sped away.

Yu Fengji watched the exhaust fus trailing behind the car, and it took him a mont to react before he couldn’t help but shake his head with a smile. He wanted to catch up and see her, but this girl left too hastily. He stood alone downstairs for a long while before heading back up.

However, his mind was still lingering on the words exchanged between Xin Wu and Deng Yu earlier. He had never paid attention to Deng Yu before, hadn’t even spoken much to her. Interns at the departnt seldom got to go on field assignnts and generally interacted more with his subordinates. He only knew of Deng Yu’s na because Chang Bin had ntioned it.

After returning ho, Yu Fengji called Chang Bin. At this hour, Chang Bin had already fallen asleep, and though a bit grumpy at being awakened, he was imdiately alert once he recognized his boss’s voice.

The boss only calls this late when sothing major has happened.

"What’s up? Did sothing happen, boss?" Chang Bin asked anxiously.

"No!" Only then did Yu Fengji realize he might have acted impulsively, but recalling the things Deng Yu said at the door to Xin Wu ignited his anger again. "When does this batch of internships end?"

"They’ve been here for over half a year now. Should be soon, probably by the end of this month!"

"How is the passing rate determined?"

"Based on daily performance scores, with special contributions warranting exceptions for promotions." Chang Bin, who regularly handled this matter, was well-acquainted with the situation. "Several interns in this batch have perford well, especially the boys, who were all specially recruited from the Public Security University and excelled in field assignnts. Once their internship is over, I’ll prepare all their information and place it on your desk."

Graduates who enter the Empire City Police Departnt are already the best of their cohort, and ultimately only one-fifth will pass. Yu Fengji typically only pays attention to retainnt for crucial positions, such as those involving fieldwork, which require his approval.

For logistics or clerical work, he rarely gets involved.

"Boss, is there sothing particular you’re asking about this for?"

"I recall you ntioning before there’s an intern nad Deng Yu, right?"

"That’s right! She’s your college alumnus, and has already been internally approved to stay." Chang Bin guessed that such a late-night call about Deng Yu was unlikely to be simple. "Boss, did Deng Yu get into so trouble?"

"She had nothing better to do in the middle of the night and ran to my house, blocking Xin Wu from leaving."
