Ning Di didn’t know what his superior was thinking. If he did, even with his reserved personality, he would give the boss a disdainful look.
And casually send three words: "Shaless."
"Boss, Yu Fengji urged several tis that no matter what, you have to go to the police station after the eting," Ning Di said, bracing himself.
This ti, Huo Beijiang didn’t say much and agreed straightforwardly.

In the evening, a long line ford at the toll station on the provincial road at the exit of the Imperial City. Seeing the temporary checkpoint set up at the toll station’s barrier, Ding ichen calmly drove the car off the main road and turned onto a side path.
The path was bumpy, with uneven woods on both sides, so parts cut down, exposing bare rock fragnts. Driving on the rugged path was quite difficult; it was evidently a mountain road tread by local farrs. It was a big question whether the car could even pass through ahead.
Especially now that it was late, driving further into the woods would be unsafe.
Ding ichen stepped on the brake and parked the car on the side of the rough road. Ji Wan, sitting in the passenger seat, also got out, both looking a little disheveled, as they had left in a hurry without much preparation.
The main thing was that Ding ichen realized her movents had been exposed. The checkpoint set up at the toll station was the best proof. Luckily, she reacted quickly and didn’t drive straight through; otherwise, once close, turning around to leave would have been impossible.
In just six hours, everything had changed drastically. Many things hidden in the shadows had quietly shifted, and Ding ichen could distinctly sense it. This was what she had been doing for the past twenty years.
But now, with the tables turned on her, the feeling was indeed uncomfortable.
"What do we do? We can’t get through the toll station. We need to et with the people who are supposed to pick us up," Ji Wan said in panic, far from the arrogance she had in the morning. Overnight, she turned from an enforcer to a fugitive, like a rabbit fleeing in disarray, making it hard to stay calm.
Ding ichen was increasingly fed up with Ji Wan. If it weren’t for the possibility of using Ji Wan as a shield in ergencies, she wouldn’t have brought this useless person. It was all Ji Wan’s fault; if not for her, Ding ichen wouldn’t have been exposed.
However, although Ding ichen felt disdain inside, she didn’t show it on her face. Their priority now was to escape. Unlike before, she couldn’t treat Ji Wan in the sa way she used to.
"If we can’t get through, so be it. I have a second backup plan." Fortunately, she was always prepared, never taking action with only one plan. At any ti, she would arrange a second escape route for herself.
"I’ve arranged for soone to pick us up here," Ding ichen said, glancing at the watch on her wrist. It was now 5:40 PM, and the appointed ti was 6:00 PM. Surely, there would be soone she had planted in the Special Action Departnt to pick them up.
"That’s good, that’s good... Sister Hong, you’re considerate," Ji Wan breathed a sigh of relief. Hearing there was backup, her earlier panic subsided, and she could calmly think through the issue. "Sister Hong, why do you think soone suddenly set up a checkpoint at the toll station? We were in such a hurry that I didn’t even see who set it up."
Ji Wan hadn’t noticed, but Ding ichen had. "It wasn’t Yu Fengji’s people!"
"Then whose people were they?"
"I guess they were either Su Hai’s people or Yin Nan’s people." The earlier bad premonition in her mind was growing stronger; she had previously held onto a bit of luck, but now she couldn’t afford to have any hopeful thoughts.
