I don’t know why, but the thought of continuing classes at school has faded. As a blind person, she didn’t want to draw attention to herself. If she really went, people might say she’s putting on a show. What’s the point in learning when you can’t even see textbooks or the blackboard?

Fortunately, Nan Fei had co to terms with it. She closed the door and stayed peacefully at ho, occasionally drawing or visiting Jiang Yang at school. No matter how turbulent the outside world was, it had nothing to do with her. She refused to see anyone who ca looking for her.

At night, the gentle rain gradually stopped. A tall man wearing a black trench coat, with a military green bag on his back, arrived at the villa’s door. Suddenly awakened from her sleep, Nan Fei sat up in bed and listened to the commotion downstairs.

The villa was large. She lived upstairs, while the nanny arranged by the Huo Family to care for her stayed downstairs. In the darkness, Nan Fei could clearly hear the nanny’s breathing and snores. So where was the noise at the door coming from?

Uneasy, Nan Fei got out of bed, donned her clothes, and went downstairs to check. She was halfway down the stairs when the living room door was pushed open from outside. The wind carried the night’s chill and a familiar scent right towards her.

Nan Fei’s hand gripped the stair railing tightly, her body starting to shake uncontrollably.

"Beijiang?" She almost couldn’t believe it; was it Beijiang who returned in the middle of the night, dusty from travel?

"Is it you? Have you co back?" she asked anxiously.

Huo Beijiang stood at the door. The lights in the living room were off, but the outdoor landscape lights shone in. The warm, yellow light spilled over his tall and slender fra, making him look all the more like a god from Greek mythology.

In just over half a month, Huo Beijiang’s deanor and aura had changed dramatically. No one knew what he had gone through in such a short ti. His eyes were filled with cold desolation, half-lowered and sharp. Yet when he heard Nan Fei’s voice, his eyes abruptly lifted toward Nan Fei standing on the stairs, gradually glowing brightly.

"Wife!" Huo Beijiang’s voice was hoarse and deep, his vulnerability evident. His gaze at Nan Fei was like an abandoned puppy, pitiful and pleading, "Wife, I missed you so much."

Nervously clenching her hands, Nan Fei wanted to smile but ended up bursting into tears instead.

Startled, Huo Beijiang dropped his bag and rushed over in a few strides, wrapping her tightly in his strong, steel-like arms. "Be good, wife, don’t cry. When you cry, my heart breaks."

Huo Beijiang held Nan Fei’s waist tightly. His tall and slender form almost enveloped her completely.

"Wife, what should I do? I feel like crying too." Huo Beijiang buried his face in Nan Fei’s shoulder crook, his voice muffled, sounding so aggrieved. Never before had he shown such a pitiful and vulnerable side to Nan Fei. In fact, he never had, ever since he was young.

Wiping her tears on Huo Beijiang’s clothes, Nan Fei murmured in a tear-soaked voice, "If you feel like crying, just cry. I... I won’t laugh at you."

"Wife, you’ve changed." Huo Beijiang’s eyes reddened, a single tear falling from the corner, though he didn’t cry apart from that. "Wife, I’m sorry I’m so useless. I shouldn’t have left you, and I shouldn’t have taken so long to co back."

Huo Beijiang’s inner guilt and remorse were beyond words, indescribable and ineffable. He could only secretly vow that for the rest of his life, he would hold Nan Fei in the palm of his hand, at the forefront of his heart.

This ti, he failed to prioritize his wife. Because of duty and the responsibilities of a soldier, he left for so long. He swore never again. No matter the circumstances, Nan Fei would always be the most important.

Huo Beijiang even thought that if it really ca down to a tough choice, he would rather choose to retire from the military.
