Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Stupefied_1 Chapter 172: Chapter 172: Stupefied_1 Huo Jinlan sat gloomily in her room, alone in the house. Exhausted from the pretense, she left her room and went downstairs to the living room to make a call.
The call went through, and a young maiden’s sweet voice sounded through the receiver.
“Hello, who are you looking for?”
Huo Jinlan recognized the voice. It belonged to Little Tao, the maid her mother had ntioned she had bought over.
“I’m looking for the madam.”
“Please wait.”
After approximately five minutes, Jing Tong’s voice ca from the other end. “Hello, may I ask…”
Huo Jinlan interrupted her before she could finish, sobbing, “Mom, it’s Jinlan! It’s Jinlan, I miss you, I miss you so much!”
Jing Tong’s smile slowly faded. After making sure no one was around, she quietly admonished, “Didn’t I tell you not to contact ? Do you want people to know that we’ve been in touch?”
People had initially deed her cold-hearted for sending her child away, wouldn’t they judge her harsher if they found out she’s been contacting her secretly?
“Mom, I’ve reached my limit! You have to help , or I’m going to die.”
“Preposterous! You’re a young mistress of the He Family, who dares to bully you?”
“It’s the Huo Family…and… and soone nad Jiang Nanfei.”
“Damn it!” Jing Tong’s eyes blazed with anger, her hands painted with bright red nail polish clenched tightly. “Tell everything, take your ti.”
“They…” Just as she was about to explain, it seed that a black shadow moved in the living room, causing Huo Jinlan to jump. She quickly turned on the lights.
The bright light fell upon Yuan Xueshan’s pale face and her fearful, unfocused eyes.
Huo Jinlan quickly ended the call, her heart pounding. Only then did she notice that the living room and main door had not been closed. She wasn’t sure when Yuan Xueshan had entered.
Had she heard the conversation?
“Mom, are you okay? Have you eaten? I can make noodles for you.” Huo Jinlan usually addressed Yuan Xueshan as ‘you,’ but out of guilt, she used a more respectful term today.
Yuan Xueshan moved like a lost soul towards her room, slamming the door behind her without a word.
Huo Jinlan instinctively patted her chest.
From Yuan Xueshan’s reaction, she probably hadn’t heard anything. Otherwise, given her impulsive nature, she would have created an uproar by now.

Although Qi Li Town was not bustling, there would still be so food stalls open during the sumr evenings. While business was not great, it provided so extra inco for the townsfolk.
Now that school was on holiday, their business would pick up once the school reopened.
All thanks to Principal Huo. Students ca from all over, boosting the town’s vitality. Without him, the town wouldn’t be as prosperous as it is now.
“Principal Huo, please enjoy your al.” The snack store owner brought over so peanuts for Huo Linong.
Sitting opposite him, Shi Jiajun looked at him with respect and admiration.
“Co! You must be hungry from your shift. Have more.” Huo Linong warmly pushed the food towards Shi Jiajun.
“Teacher, are you not angry?”
“Of course, I’m angry!” Huo Linong sighed. He had just rushed back ho this evening, and after hearing about what had happened, made arrangents for tonight.
The only surprise had been the unexpected appearance of Nanfei and Qing Tian.
Otherwise, he had intended for Xue Shan to search till dawn.
“But you don’t look angry.”
Huo Linong knew what he was thinking, he explained, “Being angry doesn’t an I have to show it. Anger can make one lose one’s cool, as well as rationality.” He sighed again. He hadn’t figured out how to apologize to his mother tomorrow, which was a major concern.
Shi Jiajun was dumbfounded.
He had previously thought that their teacher was perfect in every way, dutiful, kind, responsible, willing to help, and knowledgeable.
Except being dominated by his wife, a henpecked man.
Had they all misunderstood him?
What was that saying?
Cunning.
Huo Linong casually picked up a peanut and began to peel it off, “Sigh! I can’t let my son know about this trouble, otherwise, I’m dood.”
“…” Shi Jiajun was speechless.
Just as he had begun to reassess his opinion, he found that while the teacher was not henpecked, he was afraid of his son, which seed even more embarrassing?
PS: First of all, I’d like to thank everyone for supporting , encouraging , rewarding , and leaving comnts and reviews! I rember everything in my heart and send you a heart full of blessings. Then, I want to talk about the ratings. I noticed in the comnts section today that a few people were urging to update.
Actually, asking for updates is a pretty normal thing. It shows that you are interested in my work, for which I’m grateful, and does motivate to update more. But I’m begging you here, if it’s not dissatisfaction with the plot, could you not give a low score for slow updates?
Seeing the scores drop because of update rates really shatters my heart to pieces.
Low scores greatly affect my overall rating and statistics. Please, I beg you all.
