Chapter 1518: Chapter 1537: Ergency Rescue
“I…” Ding Jiaqi’s voice grew weaker and weaker. “I’ve really tried my best. Don’t say things recklessly, as if I deliberately wanted to harm people. Don’t you know what kind of person I am?”
“It’s exactly because I understand your character well that I find this strange,” Chen Jing said, puzzled. “You weren’t like this before.”
“I…” Ding Jiaqi beca even more uneasy, completely avoiding Chen Jing’s gaze.
She… She had indeed ant well and wanted to save soone, but watching them get sent to the prisoner camp—that was deliberate. Who told her to notice, among those civilians, a woman who unintentionally looked even more beautiful than herself!
The mont she saw that woman, she felt threatened and displeased for no apparent reason. In the end, driven by so inexplicable impulse, she kept this grievance in her heart. When Burbank decided to send everyone to the prisoner camp, she had actually hesitated inwardly for a mont. But ultimately, instinctively, she chose to turn a blind eye.
She had done nothing wrong. She had tried her best to save people. How could she possibly be blad now?
She wasn’t God, nor was she a saint—she couldn’t save everyone.
Ding Jiaqi felt disheartened, but more than that, she felt aggrieved. She was so kind, so earnest in her efforts to save people, yet in the end, not only did her good deeds go unrewarded, even her best friend ca to criticize and scold her! It was truly too much.
“You’ve really disappointed .” Ding Jiaqi pointed angrily at Chen Jing. “I even considered you my best friend, yet you actually ca at for so irrelevant outsider and morally blackmailed .”
Chen Jing stood there, dumbfounded, watching Ding Jiaqi leave in anguish.
What even is all this?
“Is Doctor Ding here?” A soldier under Huo Beijiang’s command ca running in anxiously from outside, his tone urgent as he asked, “Is Doctor Ding here?”
“No, she just left. May I ask if there’s sothing urgent?”
“That’s great. Chen Jing, if you’re here, you’ll do!” The soldier grabbed Chen Jing by the arm and started rushing her out the door. As they moved quickly, he asked along the way, “Do you know how to perform surgery?”
“I do! My specialty is surgery.” Hearing the ntion of surgery, Chen Jing beca noticeably excited. Ever since she arrived here, people had constantly insinuated that she relied entirely on Ding Jiaqi—and that without Ding Jiaqi, she wouldn’t even know how she’d survive.
Even Ding Jiaqi’s tone when speaking to her carried a subtle condescension. It made Chen Jing uncomfortable, fueling her urgent desire to prove herself.
The university she had attended and her academic achievents were not inferior to Ding Jiaqi’s. The only reason Ding Jiaqi ended up leading the team back then was because of her connections and her consistently active deanor. Jiaqi was especially eager to help others, making her highly popular. That’s why they ultimately chose Ding Jiaqi to lead the team. But truthfully, the dical skills of the team mbers weren’t lacking compared to hers.
“Good, good!” The soldier was sweating profusely from his urgency, practically dragging Chen Jing as they raced forward, moving so swiftly that she felt as though she were being carried along.
Chen Jing was dazed from the sprint. As she tried to speak, sand blew straight into her mouth. She decided to keep quiet until they reached the destination. Outside the dical room, she saw a crowd gathered at the door, the most conspicuous figure being Huo Beijiang.
His tall and imposing figure stood near the entrance, pacing anxiously back and forth, which only heightened Chen Jing’s curiosity.
Lu Jin spotted Chen Jing imdiately and sprinted toward her. “Quick! You must save the person in the operating room. If not, all of us will be done for!” As he finished, he shot a very peculiar look toward his boss.
