Chapter 466: Chapter 466: He’s Going With the Grain!

With the unique vigilance of a soldier, as soon as Cheng Su leaned in, Qi Taiguo imdiately woke up. At the tip of his nose, he was filled with her familiar fragrance, along with her soft body.

Without opening his eyes, Qi Taiguo stretched out his hand and pulled her into his embrace, his voice nasal as he asked, "Back?"

"Mm!" Cheng Su replied with a nasal hum.

A simple sentence, the most ordinary of dialogues, yet it was also the most heartwarming, as if they had never been apart, filled only with warmth.

Qi Taiguo reached out to touch her forehead, then her hand, saying, "Why are you so cold? You’re not wearing enough clothes."

As he spoke, he kicked off his shoes, shifted in bed, pulled Cheng Su into his arms, and drew the quilt over them both.

The warmth enveloped them instantly, and Cheng Su sighed in comfort, hugging Qi Taiguo’s waist even tighter and pinching.

"You’ve lost weight!"

Qi Taiguo opened his eyes, looked down at her, and said, "You’re no different, your complexion isn’t good either." He reached out again to feel her forehead, adding, "I’m sorry I wasn’t by your side to take care of you when you were sick."

Cheng Su felt a sourness in her nose and humd, pouting.

Qi Taiguo hugged her and kissed her forehead.

The warm breath fell on her forehead, tickling and warming her heart. Cheng Su turned over slightly, sprawling on his chest like a baby koala clinging to him.

Qi Taiguo’s mouth curved slightly, his eyes half-closed as his hand caressed her smooth, long hair, occasionally brushing it gently.

All of a sudden, Cheng Su felt sothing was off — his movents, this sensation, why did it feel like he was petting a cat or dog?

But since he had returned and they were like newlyweds after a brief separation, she let it be.

"Was the mission successful?" Cheng Su asked.

As soon as her words fell, she felt his body stiffen, his stroking motion halt, and she couldn’t help but look up at him, "What’s wrong? Was it not successful?"

Qi Taiguo opened his eyes, looked at the tented roof, and grunted, "A soldier died, two were severely injured and had to be amputated, they can’t be soldiers anymore!"

Cheng Suxin was shocked, "That severe? The mission was that vicious?"

"Yes!"

Seeing his listless expression, Cheng Suxin realized why the atmosphere hadn’t been very upbeat, even after such a long ti. It was because the mission hadn’t gone well.

Faced with the loss and demise of comrades, any further consolation seed hollow. Cheng Suxin reached out and touched his hair, "Don’t be too sad, the dead cannot be brought back to life."

Qi Taiguo managed a faint smile.

Unable to resist, Cheng Su asked further, "Wasn’t it supposed to be about bandits and road bullies? How co they had such force?"

Qi Taiguo’s face turned cold, "The whole village, except for the old, weak, sick, and disabled, was filled with murderous bandits. The won served as bait by the roadside, and the n did the robbing. Every household had ho-made guns and artillery. We ca across one extre household; they set off the artillery, and just like that, it exploded!"

Cheng Su’s complexion soured upon hearing this, murmuring, "To be so bold and rampant now, and it’s only the 1980s. What’s going to happen in the ’90s?"

Her muttering was very soft, and Qi Taiguo, already preoccupied with the incident, didn’t catch it and asked, "What are you muttering about?"

Cheng Su ca back to her senses and said, "It’s nothing."

Qi Taiguo felt sothing was off with her.

Gurgle, gurgle!

Suddenly there was a sound from his stomach; Cheng Su froze for a mont, then hurriedly got up, "Look at , I haven’t even cooked yet!"

She scrambled up in a flurry, and Qi Taiguo lightly chuckled. After sleeping so long upon returning, he also had no more desire to sleep, and simply decided to get up as well.
