Chapter 248: Chapter 248: It’s Because of Love

Qi Taiguo turned over and wrapped Cheng Su, who was facing away from him, in his arms, his hands holding on tight.

"What are you doing? Go to sleep!" said Cheng Su as she struggled briefly.

"Susu, are you, angry?" Qi Taiguo asked carefully.

Silence.

Qi Taiguo felt a tightness in his heart and tightened his grasp even more.

Cheng Su moved a little, turned around, and said, "You’re squeezing

so tight I can hardly breathe!"

"Could you please not be angry?" Qi Taiguo looked into her eyes and said, "It hurts

a lot when you are like this."

Her indifference was even more suffocating to him than an all-out fight, as if she had erected a high wall in front of him, isolating him, making it impossible for him to get over it.

Cheng Su’s eyelids drooped slightly as she muttered, "I’m not angry."

"But you said, you want

to transfer to a civilian job," Qi Taiguo said anxiously.

"I was just talking. How could you possibly transfer?" Cheng Su gave a bitter smile and said, "I know it’s impossible, yet I still said it, because I’m scared!"

"Susu..." Qi Taiguo hugged her.

"I know you’ll go far, that you’ll be a regint leader, a division commander, and maybe even go further. But the foundation of this is built upon repeatedly walking on the edge of life and death. I understand, it’s your duty as a soldier, but I—bluntly put—am just a selfish woman!" Cheng Su said, burying her head in his chest.

"I thought I wouldn’t worry too much, heh, but when I actually received bad news about you, I felt..." Cheng Su’s voice choked as she rembered the feeling of that phone call, "I felt like sothing was gripping my heart. Turns out, I’m not as strong as I thought, or as strong as you imagined. I can be scared, scared of you sacrificing yourself."

"Silly girl, aren’t I fine?" Qi Taiguo kissed her forehead lightly, soothing her softly.

"This ti you’re fine, but what about next ti, or the ti after that? The repeated fright and fear, Qi Taiguo, I’m not afraid of my fear, I’m just afraid that if this fear turns into sothing I can’t get used to, what then?" Cheng Su’s voice sounded a bit shaky.

She even thought, could it be that the original owner’s suicide in her past life wasn’t because Qi Taiguo was unfaithful or because of family disputes, but because he was gone, so she didn’t want to live either?

"I promise..."

"Don’t promise!" Cheng Su covered his mouth and said, "Promises are pretty empty."

Qi Taiguo fell silent for a while, then said, "Susu, ever since I joined the army, I’ve vowed to dedicate my life and even my existence to our country. I’ve never thought about what I would do besides being a soldier. Sorry, I’ve been too selfish!"

"It’s okay. I know your dreams," Cheng Su sighed and said, "I’m just scared and want to vent. Qi Taiguo, let’s leave it at this ti. Next ti, don’t go taking on responsibilities for others proactively, okay? Make the chances for

to worry less. I don’t care if you don’t climb up the ranks quickly, as long as you are alive. We don’t even have children yet!"

Qi Taiguo nodded and said, "I promise you."

He had been eager to accumulate military achievents this ti, not realizing that her sense of security was so fragile.

But at the sa ti, Qi Taiguo was sowhat happy. Didn’t it an that Cheng Su also loved him very much?

"What are you smiling about?" Cheng Su asked upon seeing his smiling face.

"Susu, you’re so worried about , isn’t it because you love ?" Qi Taiguo’s eyes shone brightly.

Cheng Su blushed and said, "Get over yourself, who loves you. Let’s sleep!" She then turned her back to him.

"Say you love , then we’ll sleep. Quick, say you love ..." Qi Taiguo pressed upon her.
