Chapter 69: Blood Hunters

The war room buzzed with stress as the first light of dawn crept through the windows. Less than eighteen hours until the Great Conclave began, and their enemy stayed hidden in shadows. "We split up," Kael stated, spreading tactical maps across the table. "Three threats, three of us." Liana watched her mates change into the warriors they were born to be. Gone were the young n competing for her love. In their place stood battle-hardened Alphas ready to protect their pack. "Jace, you track the killers," Kael added.

"Find out what we’re really dealing with." Jace nodded grimly. "Already got their sll from the Northern Territories. Whatever killed the Frost Pack left tracks." "Rowan, you work with Elder Mira on magical defenses," Kael ordered. "If this is about ritual magic, we need protection." "The ancient ward stones haven’t been activated in centuries," Rowan answered. "But I’ll figure it out." "And you?" Liana asked Kael. His gray eyes hardened. "I find Celeste before she finds you." As the brothers prepared to leave, Liana grabbed each of their hands. The mate link thrumd with shared determination and fear. "Co back to ," she whispered. "All of you." "Always," they promised in unison.

Three Hours Later - Northern Forest Jace crouched beside the remains of what used to be the Frost Pack’s main house. The building stood undamaged, but inside lay hundreds of bodies. No wounds. No blood. Just empty shells where lively wolves once lived. The sll he followed was wrong. Not quite human, not quite wolf, but sothing twisted in between. What kind of monster sucks life like this? His phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number: Follow the white stones if you want answers. Jace looked around and found them—small white pebbles leading deeper into the forest. Every sense scread danger, but he needed answers. The trail led to an abandoned mine pit. The tallic sll of blood mixed with sothing chemical and sharp. Jace shifted partly, letting his wolf senses guide him down the dark tunnel. Voices echoed from deep underground. "The ritual requires fresh royal blood," a rasping voice said. "The stored power won’t last much longer." "Then we take the oga tonight," another answered.

"During the chaos of the opening ceremony." Jace pressed closer, his heart pounding. Through a crack in the cave wall, he saw them. Three people hunched over a table covered in silver weapons. But these weren’t regular people. Their skin had a grayish tint, and their eyes glowed with strange light. Most disturbing of all, they moved with jerky, puppet-like movents. "The master grows impatient," the first creature continued. "If we fail—" "We won’t fail," the second interrupted, lifting a silver knife that glead with the sa toxic shine as the weapons that had nearly killed Liana. "The oga dies tonight." Rage burst through Jace’s wolf. He burst through the cave opening, shifting mid-leap into his massive black form. The monsters spun around, hissing like snakes. Up close, Jace could see the truth—these things had once been werewolves, but sothing had changed them. Corrupted them. The first hybrid lunged with inhuman speed, silver claws extended. Jace ducked, but barely. These weren’t regular enemies—they were faster and stronger than normal wolves. The fight was fierce and quick. Jace’s better training and pure fury gave him the edge, but not before the creatures landed several hits. Silver burned through his fur, sending waves of pain through his body. As the last hybrid lay dying, it grabbed Jace’s leg with surprising power. "You’re... too late," it wheezed, black blood flowing from its mouth.

"The master... already has soone... inside your precious... alliance." "Who?" Jace ordered, pressing his paw against the creature’s throat. "Who’s the traitor?" The mix smiled with too many teeth. "Closer than... you think. Trusted by... everyone." It died with those words, falling to ash. Jace changed back to human form, wincing as the silver wounds throbbed. He searched the cave quickly, finding papers covered in symbols and a detailed map of the Shadowfang farm. But it was the final piece of proof that made his blood freeze. A list of nas written in red ink: Primary Targets: Liana Shadowfang (Royal Blood - Priority One) Talia Morrison (Seer - Eliminate Before Ritual) Elder Mira (Knowledge Keeper - Silence Permanently) Talia’s na was marked three tis in fresh red ink. anwhile - The Sacred Grove Rowan knelt beside old stone pillars covered in moss and forgotten runes. Elder Mira chanted in the old language, her voice getting stronger with each word. "These ward stones were carved by the first Luna," Mira explained between incantations. "They’re designed to repel dark magic." "Why haven’t they been used recently?" Rowan asked, putting his hands on the cold stone. "Because activating them requires a terrible price," Mira replied grimly. "The magic must be fed with life force."

Rowan felt his blood chill. "Whose life force?" "Traditionally, the pack’s spiritual leader offers part of their essence," Mira said softly. "It won’t kill , but it will age decades in minutes." "There has to be another way—" "There isn’t." Mira’s voice was final. "Not if we want protection strong enough to stop what’s coming." As they worked, Rowan felt sothing else stirring in the forest around them. Dark figure moving between the trees, watching their every move. "Mira," he whispered. "We’re not alone." Estate Dungeons Kael descended into the holding cells beneath the estate, following traces of Celeste’s lingering sll. The magical barriers that should have contained her lay shattered, their crystal pieces scattered across the floor. But it was what he found in her cell that made him call the others instantly. Carved into the stone wall were symbols matching the ones from the cave Jace had described. Below them, written in what looked like blood, was a ssage: "The Moon Goddess picked wrong. Tonight, I choose right."

But there was more. Hidden beneath her bed, Kael found a small journal filled with detailed plans. Plans that stated specific timing, guard rotations, and most chilling of all—the exact mont during the opening ceremony when security would be focused elsewhere. Soone had been giving Celeste information. Soone with high-level access to Conclave plans. Kael’s phone rang. Jace’s terrified voice filled the dungeon. "Kael, you need to get back here now. They’re going after Talia first. Tonight. Before the ceremony even starts." "How do you know?" "Because I found their hit list. And there’s sothing else—they have soone working on the inside. Soone we trust." Kael felt ice settle in his stomach. "Who?" "I don’t know yet. But whoever it is, they know everything about our protection plans." As Kael raced back toward the main house, one terrible thought echoed in his mind: if the enemy knew their every move, how could they possibly protect anyone? Above ground, the sun was setting.

Alpha delegations from across the continent were coming hourly, setting up camps and pavilions around the estate. In just six hours, the Great Conclave would begin. And sowhere in the growing crowd of hundreds of wolves, a traitor was prepared to strike. The hunt was about to begin.
