Chapter 524: A Monstrous Glimpse
"She’s finally asleep?" Hayden asked
when I stepped out of the room.
"Yeah," I replied, shutting the door behind . "I had to cast a spell to knock her out"
"You did the right thing," she assured . We both knew she wouldn’t be able to sleep either way, it was like a whole trauma was unlocked and Wendy suddenly beca this vulnerable person.
"Sothing must have happened at that party and it can still be happening..." I said with certainty. I attended such a party a few days ago and who knew what happened?
"What are you suggesting then?" she asked.
"I’m lost too," I said walking to the common room. "But the only way we can know for sure is..."
"What?" she stared at
confused but suddenly realization dawned on her gaze. "You can’t be—"
I placed my hand on her mouth to stop her and she glared at . "Don’t say it out loud" I know Dace is watching , he could be right now. If he found out I planned to attend that party again, who knew how he would react?
Hayden took my hand off. "Please tell
this isn’t what I’m thinking..."
"Like I said I’m not sure but I think I have another idea that doesn’t involve the first one"
"Please do because I’ll take any other thing aside from the first one and why don’t you want
to voice your crazy plan out loud?"
Right... I haven’t told her that Dace has caras in the house, I think I’ll skip that part because I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable.
"Bodyguard, rember?"
"Oh," she nodded in understanding. "Dace sure knows how to create an impression huh?"
You have no idea.
I cleared my throat. "So the second plan is... I can look into her mories, it’s like dream walking but completely different"
"Isn’t that dangerous? I think you relieve whatever mories you look into"
"I know," I sighed, sitting on the couch. "But this is the only way I know we can find out what happened to Wendy that night and ... I can’t rember hours of my life, I’m freaking out"
"Okay okay, what do you need for the spell"
"You know what"
"Right a Grimoire"
I nodded.
"I can get that but I don’t want to leave you alone," she said hesitantly.
"I’ll be fine, trust "
She sat beside . "Don’t try anything stupid until I get back, I an it!"
A smile found my lips. "Okay"
~
I rinsed my face with the tap water when I heard my phone vibrate, I grabbed the towel and wiped my face as I held my phone. It was a ssage from Emilia. I was actually expecting one after her news earlier.
EMILIA: Mom ca ho
I rembered when she told
about Camille’s progress and how well she have been doing in the past month. She must have signed the release form for her to co ho.
: That’s great! How is she?
The three dots ca instantly, almost like she had been waiting for
to reply.
EMILIA: Good. It’s Dace I’m worried about.
I gulped.
: How is he?
EMILIA: I don’t know, I haven’t set my eyes on him to know
I sighed leaning against the island, having no idea what to say next.
EMILIA: I’ve barely seen him, I thought I should ask you. Have you heard from him? Surely he must have reached out to you.
A pain tugged in my chest. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
: I haven’t either
I wished I had heard anything from him, I was counting on it but after what happened between us he just went silent. Should I call him?
I opened my contact list but hesitated to press the call button, my heart beating so fast and escalating the situation.
What would I say? I an I was drunk when I called and the alcohol was perfect for that situation, I wasn’t so sure I could have done that without it. What should I do? Should I call him or not?
"Co on Emma, just press the call button," I told myself but did the complete opposite because I remained frozen, my hands hanging.
The light suddenly flickered violently, pulling my gaze to the bizarre display. Were we having a power problem or sothing?
The rapid flashing seed almost deliberate, causing
to be on alert.
I dropped my phone and stepped out of the bathroom into my room. The lights here did the sa thing too so it was everywhere in the house.
The continuous movent caused an unsteady strobe that made my vision blur. I forced my gaze away as the action beca too intense.
I let out a shaky breath, cold air puffing from my mouth. There was suddenly a deep chill in the room, biting into my skin and causing my teeth to clatter.
What the hell is going on?
The temperature dropped further, and dread twisted deep in my chest. The hairs on my neck prickled as if I were being watched, every nerve screaming in warning.
I’m not alone.
A sharp, piercing scream tore through the silence, sending a jolt of terror down my spine. Wendy. It was Wendy’s scream!
"Wendy!" I cried out, as I bolted out of my room and flew down the stairs. "Wendy!"
Her shrieks didn’t stop, each one clouded with raw agony that made my heart hamr harder. I slamd my fist against her door "Wendy, open up!"
Her screams only grew louder.
I drew backward, my hand trembling as I reached out, ready to summon my magic—but nothing happened. I couldn’t feel it. It was gone. Why now? Why wouldn’t it work?
Then is this a...
"Emma"
I gasped, turning and my eyes widened. "Tessa?" She stood there, exactly as I rembered her but barefoot in that familiar burgundy gown.
This ti, the fabric clung to her, drenched in blood. It dripped from her fingers, and stained her pale skin, and pooled beneath her feet. My breath grew raspy as I followed the blood to the floor and flowed to where I stood.
My breath drew rapidly as the blood got closer but suddenly it wasn’t the crimson pool heading towards
instead, it was a reflection of neon lights. I wasn’t in my PJs anymore but the attire I wore to that party. There was a speed of dancing bodies around , just like that night on the dance floor.
The music echoed through the air, twisted and haunting.
Tessa?" I called out, my voice trembling as I fought my way through the swamp of bodies. It was strange—wrong—because they all moved around , eyes vacant, brushing past like I wasn’t even there. Like I was the one who didn’t exist.
Am I dreamwalking? It didn’t feel like it because it was familiar to that night, and even though I was drunk all through I seed to rember fragnts of it.
I let my eyes wander, taking in the entire scene just like that night until my eyes caught two figures I recognized. It was Tessa and Wendy.
Wendy was on her own, with a drink she hadn’t touched. It was just as she explained how she played the responsible one while Tessa drowned herself in more drinks.
"Wendy," I whispered, taking a cautious step forward. But before I could move another inch, a hand grip around my arm, yanking
back. I spun around as I locked my eyes to on a figure staring down at . Soulless, milky-white eyes bored into mine.
"So it was you," he said darkly. "You were the one who escaped," His dead gaze veered past , zeroing in on Wendy.
"Who are you?" I demanded, trying to sound strong. He pinned
with that hollow stare, and a slow, twisted smile spread across his face. But it wasn’t a normal smile—the skin at the corner of his mouth split open, tearing wider and wider, revealing rows of needle-like teeth, sharp as blades and endless in number.
I couldn’t move, his grip on my arm rendered
paralyzed. I was petrified to the core by fear of this sight before , I have never seen anyone as monstrous and corrupted. His hollow gaze was like staring at a bottomless existence and at the sa ti I could feel the pleasure for entertainnt, the unusual hunger, and the bloodlust that pulled
in.
"A taste of a hybrid shall be... pleasant," he declared, his voice shifting into sothing demonic. "I’ll co for you," he promised, sending a shiver down my spine.
