Chapter 490: A Shitty Daughter

EMMA

~

I fucked up! I ca here to get what Luther wanted. The plan was simple: grab Hayden however I could and sohow sneak out. Sneaking in was tricky—thanks to a spell from one of Vanessa’s grimoires I ca across for concealing auras—but carrying an unconscious person was a failed plan waiting to happen.

I didn’t even think this through, all I knew was I didn’t want to lose my family again, Luther’s threats were no joke I know that much. The twisted look in his eyes spelled promises I did not wish to entertain.

Dace ruined my fucked up plan, I didn’t expect him to be back at the mansion so soon, doing this without him being involved was perfect. However with him here I don’t know what might happen. He doesn’t look okay, his expression is unreadable, I’m still mad at him but not mad enough to pull off what I did, I knew I hurt him. I fucking hurt him!

Walking away from him was the hardest, it felt like I was tearing a part of my soul away, and the hollow feeling was unquestionable. But it’s better than him to find out what’s going on. Luther will do sothing drastic when Dace is involved.

I should have taken Hayden when I had the chance. There were so many opportunities but when I just stood there staring at Hayden’s unconscious form I didn’t have the heart to do it. I’m not an evil person who would trade an innocent life for my family. I need to think of another way to fight off Luther sohow.

"Emma?"

I halted at the last flight of stairs and gulped when I set my eyes on Emilia.

"What are you doing here, girl?"

"I-I-I..." I looked for an alternative but there wasn’t any. I remained flushed and confused hoping they would disappear and allow

to leave, but that’s too much to ask.

"Good to see you again, Lioness," Singe said curtly. He looked happy to see

but I can’t return the sa charisma right now. My nerves were a wreck and I felt like chewing on my nails... not happening.

"Please Singe, just Emma" I mumbled, pulling so strands of my hair behind my ear instead.

"So you sneaked into the mansion for what exactly?"

Trust Emilia always noticing every single thing, how the heck am I supposed to get out of this one? Anything I say would just be a flat-out lie, and she would tell without needing even to read my goddamn mind!

"I—"

A knock from the door stopped

and I have never been more grateful about the interruption. Whoever that is was a lifesaver!

"Are we expecting anybody?" Emilia asked no one in particular. I on the other hand couldn’t be more happy about the interruption not until Singe opened the door and I rethought the whole thing. This was not my lifesaver but a pending situation I was unprepared for.

"Mom?" I mouthed, stunned with wide eyes.

What the heck? I made sure they were asleep when I left the house.

"I saw you leave," she confessed, sparing a look at Singe and then Emilia.

"Evening Vivian, to what do we owe this visit" Emilia said with a smirk. Despite her normal naughty attitude, she seed rather welcoming. That’s a first.

"Thank you, Emilia, I’m here because I’m worried" she faced . "You didn’t tell

you were leaving, you got

worried, I thought you..." she gulped before voicing her concern. "Disappeared again"

I realized how much of a shitty daughter I am. I just up and left, she must have been so worried and mortified thinking I would disappear again or perhaps she might have forgotten about . I understood exactly how she felt and it only made the feeling much worse.

I didn’t an it and the decision I made to co here was the right one but now I’m not completely sure of myself anymore.

"I won’t I promise" I assured her, the rest of the words hanging in my throat. I feel more shitty.

"Good," she nodded. "Because I won’t let that happen again" she promised and I forced a smile.

Grayson ca behind and by my guess, he drove her here, he gave

a look that said I had so explaining to do. Unfortunately, there won’t be any explanation because the last thing I wanted was for him to get involved.

"Twice in this place in a week, can’t be a good sign," Vanessa said, stepping forward. Her eyes road around. "That will determine," she added.

"Mom?" I said darting my gaze to her. I had an icky feeling that they didn’t just co here because they were worried.

"I think I would like to have that talk now" my mom announced. "Good idea since we’re all here. Where’s Dace?"

Shit, shit, shit! This is not good, anything but that right now. I opened my mouth to speak but couldn’t find the right words.

"Evening, Mrs. Adams" the sudden gravel voice captivated our attention. Automatically we turned and found Dace standing close to the railing with a smile on his lips.

"Vanessa," He added. My aunt said nothing but just a look told

she had much to say but chose not to speak.

I gulped. "Mom we should—"

"Hello Dace," my mom said. "I believe we have not properly t"

"All the more reason we should Mrs, Adams, dinner?"

My mom blinked a bit, taken aback by his gesture. Dace had always been described as a beast by nature so his sudden move was not what she expected.

She cleared her throat "Absolutely"

This was getting too much to handle as I watched my mom and the others walk up the stairs. I glared at Dace wishing I could just scream at his face.

’Relax sweetheart, isn’t it about ti I t the family?’

A hot chill shut through

the very second I heard Dace’s voice in my mind. Did he just allow a mind link? Suddenly I could instantly feel his inner emotions but there was strangely nothing there, however before I could grasp it completely he shut

out again.

I should be grateful he did or else he would have figured out what was going on, but I found myself wanting to be in his head again and feel everything.

That hollow feeling inside of him, what was it?
