Chapter 440: The Threat On Diana Crest {2}

I shut the door behind , leaning against it and releasing a heavy sigh.

"You okay?"

I darted my eyes to Singe running a hand through my hair. I forced a smile. "Yeah... just worried about Diana that’s all, she’s just a child, and yet"

"Yeah... the pressure is tough" he acknowledges.

"I once had pressure like that, not as young as Diana but young enough to know how it feels like to be torn between what you want and what’s best. Like the whole world against you"

"I will admit you’re not like other vampires. And I think I respect that"

"I will take that as a complint"

"Are you still angry with the Alpha?" he suddenly asks and I knew what he ant, he was there after all.

"About what?" I played on with a smirk.

"The gift and all, for the sake of the vampire’s race"

"I’m always angry with him" I tapped his chest and walked to the door.

"I think he cares," he says.

"I don’t think he does, Singe, and I understand that" I walked out of the building, my eyes searching for Dace. I found him leaning against the tree, with his back to , and judging from the cloud of smoke around him I knew he was taking a smoke.

Inhaling I walked and the closer I got the more nervous I got, how my heartbeat spiked and my legs getting heavy with each step I took. It took forever to finally stand beside him, watching the view of trees and bushes, the calm wind whistling around. I have always known werelions for their love for nature, that was why their residence was always closer to the wild.

I turned my head to face him, his thick dark hair was ssy on top of his head and the curly strands covered his forehead down to his thick eyebrows, from this view his dark golden orbs were sharp and piercing. His jawline was razor sharp from this angle, with no trace of stubble beards like they were this morning. Completely shaved leaving the smooth texture of his skin.

I can see a peak of his relic tattoo from his shirt up to his neck. He took the stick in between his fingers and took a drag.

"Why did you act like that?" I finally broke the silence, trying to divert from admiring him further.

His eyelid twitches. "She should know what’s at stake and what her position demands"

"She’s just a child"

"No she’s not!" he faced

with those intense orbs of his. "She knows that too..."

I gulped. "Are you angry?"

He rolled his shoulder facing the view back. "My people were put to danger during the engagent, had it been vampires it would have been less more annoying"

"What will you do?"

"There’s a eting in Costa Rica, between the councils and houses and you’re going with "

I snapped my eyes back to him. He faces

with his hands in his jeans pocket, tilting his head to the side and observing

closely.

I can feel my cheeks burning. "W-Why are you looking at

like that?"

"I’m waiting for a bratty attitude"

I was forced to roll my eyes now. "It’s part of the partnership isn’t it, even if I said no you would still drag

halfway across the world"

He smiled showing his perfectly white teeth. "Exactly, baby girl"

"Don’t call

that"

"What? Do I strike a nerve with it?"

Yes, you do!

"No... I hate that na, just call

by your na"

"Is that another one of your conditions"

"Yes"

"Too late to make more, you have already sealed the deal" he paused as his eyes glowed briefly, my guess a mindlink was passing through.

"Fuck" he mumbled walking ahead. "Do I have to carry you over my shoulders?"

I rolled my eyes once again and followed behind him while mumbling several curses at him. I just want peace but I guess with Dace and the new ss I am in there is no peace for .

I focused entirely on my book, before darting my eyes to Dace on his seat close to the desk. Why did he bring

to his office?

"Bring him in" Dace finally said leaning against his leather seat and the door clicked open.

I subconsciously grabbed my book tighter when I set my eyes on a familiar tanned-skinned man, A harsh intense feeling found its way to my body, and a chill crossed through . Owen Sherman stepped in with confidence, dressed in a jean jacket and a flannel shirt beneath along with jeans.

He looked more mature than I last rember, now an exact copy of his father and it was a sickening sense of deja vu. His hair is always kept short now thick on top of his head but maintains a transient length.

With hands in his jacket pockets, he said "You finally agreed to et , Devereaux"

"You kept nagging about it and have the guts to co here"

He forced a smile but it didn’t reach his eyes. Briefly, as he took his seat he finally caught notice of , where I was all curled up on the couch close to the wine bar with my book. He narrowed his eyes when he saw . I felt a rebellious feeling dominating . Pain, darkness, and vexation. I was already digging holes in my book, unable to look away and even blink.

"What did you want to talk about Sherman?" Dace cut our little staring contest. I was the first to look away as I tried to control my breathing.

"It’s about the expansion of the land, Devereaux, we need to discuss how we will deal with the barriers and the lands"

Their talks went on and I was having a hard ti listening and trying to control myself. I just stared blankly at my book, my vision blurring and all I could rember was that day. That very day I walked up to Owen all because I trusted him, how stupid I was to think he could ever save Dace. And just as foolish as I am, I destroyed everything just like he wanted.
