Chapter 42: Founding Juneau

It first started with the Juneau’s. They were the first to discover this place, they beca the first families, and the town was nad after them. The Adams joined along and then the Sherman’s and the Hathaway’s.

"When did the Devereaux’s co in?" I murmured while searching. It only just said the Devereaux family joined in but it didn’t state the date or anything else... just their economic support. Just like that? That’s it? And they were well known that much? This doesn’t feel like the right answer I was searching for. I skimd through the book hoping to find more information but it all ca to economic developnt.

"Great!" I slamd the book, I found nothing, nothing at all, it still remained the sa, I was still kept in the dark. I licked my lips, closing my eyes.

Dreamcatcher

Unwanted

Can’t read

Strange eye colors

Speed

The Law of coexistence

Not humans

I recited all the strange words I have co across in my head, over and over again, almost like I was chanting them, just for sothing to click, anything.

"Dreamcatcher," I said as I brought my laptop close and searched for it, the google info popped up and I scrolled down. ’The dreamcatcher was first created as a kind of protective talisman. The Native Aricans hung these creations above the cradles or beds of their young children to protect them from bad dreams and night’

"Protective talisman," I bit my nails, except this wasn’t a talisman for dreams because it was not hung next to the bed but the windows. "I’m that unwanted" I chewed deeper rembering Dace’s words. "The dreamcatcher is a protective talisman that keeps the unwanted away" like a puzzle was placed, it was not for dreams but to keep things that are not needed out. "Dace’s unwanted but why?" there’s more to it, I jotted on my notebook what I just placed together, this was the first step, I think. I searched for the next one.

"Can’t read " I closed my eyes chanting. "Can’t read, you’re quiet, like an empty shell, the others are noisy.... The others are noisy" I opened my eyes. "Can’t read my mind" I gulped. Emilia, she’s a telepathic? I snorted a laugh. Okay, there is no way that’s true. I paused blinking, ever since I ca to this town several things I have encountered didn’t make sense, not even this.

I jotted the info even though it still sounded crazy to , could she really be a telepathic? That was super weird but the words she said matched with everything related to that.

"The Law of Coexistence, he can’t tell

anything because of it, so it’s a law, what should be kept should be kept" Vanessa did tell

that our families were peacemakers and very influential ones, we kept the order and also the law of coexisting. So were the Adams responsible for creating such a law? But why? And what was the reason for it? What did they want to keep hidden... " from humans" I muttered.

Trying to connect the dots was a whole new level. I felt like I was uncovering sothing I shouldn’t and what bugged

more was what Owen said. What was he trying to say when he said the Devereaux’s don’t make contact with humans? The Devereaux’s aren’t humans? Could that be it?

"Ugh! I’m losing my mind" I groaned, slamming my forehead on the table but not too hard. It was sounding crazy as I got deeper into this, real crazy, maybe I shouldn’t be playing detective right now, because none of it makes sense AT ALL! I raised my head rubbing my forehead.

"Just turn a blind eye to it" at the sound of the dreamcatcher against the window, I turned to it. Can I? Can I just pretend that there’s sothing going on around

that I couldn’t explain? Or that Vanessa, Dace, and Owen were honoring so law created by my family? And every passing mystery was centered on the Devereaux family who wasn’t even ntioned in their founding books but just a page but highly known presently and everyone had a dislike for them.

"Not everyone just so specific families
