Chapter 189: Sniffing The Dead

DACE

~

I didn’t like the idea of leaving Emma at all, my whole body was disturbed and every fiber of my body scread at

to get back to her. But I knew I had to do this... finding out the threat was the only way to keep her safe, I will just have to bear it as best as I could, my body wasn’t listening to , I was both worried and on edge ever since we heard of the twin marks, there was no other supernatural who has such bite other than a vampire but I wanted to be sure, probably because I knew the barrier was shut tightly after that incident.

I shouldn’t underestimate a Royal either... Maybe this is a vampire attack or a warning, Emma’s not safe until I get my hands on that killer or figure sothing out.

"So what’s the plan?"

I forget this guy was here too, it was a silent ride to the hospital. I really hoped he would keep his mouth shut but I guess not... this is Owen, the sa guy that always got on my nerves.

"We can’t just walk in and demand his body" he added as we walked through the sliding doors.

"I know," I said. "I just need a look or a sniff then I would know what killed him"

"Hmm let’s see how you get past that" he pointed to the desk.

"Look, why are you even here?" I faced him finally having enough.

"What else? I know the death of Mr. Evan was not normal, that twin mark says everything, if this is a Vampire attack I wanna know"

"That’s not the only reason you’re here is it?" I urged knowing his reason very well, and it bugged

to the fullest, even though he hadn’t told

to my face I knew it... I knew of his affection towards Emma.

"I know she’s marked by a royal vampire or whatever you call it, if this is them then she’s in danger. Now can we stop talking and get to the bottom of this?"

He was right but I won’t admit it. "You think your father heard about this yet?"

"Probably... but can’t wait around for him, it best we take this into our hands, I know him... he won’t let us get involved"

I smirked. "You read my mind"

"So the plan?" he was irritated now and damn I was too, just being next to him had my mind in a mix.

"Watch," I said, walking up to the desk where the nurses were. This was not a big deal for , just saying a few things they would believe, I know their faces, they probably didn’t know

so it was easier to get what I wanted.

The nurse was already blushing when I asked her questions, so I dive in making sure I kept her gaze, fuck I don’t like doing this because I was flirting to get info, I could already picture the angry face of Emma, she would look cute though with that look, I almost chuckled but I rembered I was supposed to be paying attention to this lady.

"Just take the elevator to the third floor"

"Thank you, love" I mused and she bit her lips leveling her gaze. Fuck kill

now! I just held in my smile as I walked back to Owen.

"Wow, what did you do? She’s totally checking out your behind" Owen said trying to get on my nerves, he was always on my nerves.

"Shut up!" I said with clenched teeth.

"Well I hope in that flirting of yours you were able to get sothing"

"I can’t just walk up to her and demand his body be shown so I played the smart card" I walked and he followed.

"Smart card?"

"Not even you can pull it off"

"Are you ssing with

right now?!"

"You should let

handle this alone, you ain’t helping at all," I said, punching the side button of the elevator. Owen looked like he would burn a hundred degrees now, and I was pleased.

"I told her I was here for a check-up, for a tooth injury, I have been here when Emma was brought in the first attack, so I asked directions just to be right and with my end word being ’hope it isn’t near the morgue’... and she said of course not that’s the 4th floor"

He stilled and I smirked, that was when the door slid open.

"I just make the conservation more smooth by flirting" I concluded walking in, placing one hand in my pocket jeans. "Well, you coming? Or are you finally ready to give

so peace"

He cleared his throat as he walked in and I pressed the 4th floor.

"That was..." he shrugged. "...smart" he mumbled which was stupid of him because I could hear quite well.

"Let’s just get this over with"

~

The elevator made a ding sound as the door slid open revealing the hall.

"So we are basically sneaking into the morgue with dead bodies," Owen intoned.

"Have any other better ideas?"

"Now that you as-"

"Shh!" I stopped him before he could continue.

"What?!" he demands.

"Behind the wall now!"

We hid, and I used that chance to take a whiff of the air, I was right then.

"Let’s stay out of sight" I mumbled to him as we turned more behind the wall that was when the footstep approached.

"I’m sorry for your loss" a voice sounds. And then muffled cries followed.

"He wasn’t sick so how?" she cried.

"That’s Mrs. Evans," Owen whispered to .

"Everything will be alright"

We heard the elevator door and then it shut.

"We should be fast," I told him before coming out into view. He followed quietly behind . Left for

I would have just blurred and got what I needed, Owen was slowing

down and I hope he knows that he insisted on tagging along.

"And know you’re gonna say it"

I shift my gaze to him.

"I’m slowing you down"

"You read my mind" I smirked but it wasn’t heartfelt.

He rolled his eyes as we got to the door and we walked through it, it was cold but nothing my body couldn’t handle. I wasn’t so sure about the warlock guy, he may be magic and all but his body was still fragile.

He shivers.

"You can wait outside"

He gave

a look but he didn’t say anything, I was thankful he didn’t because I was not in the mood for him.

He checked the rooster, scanning the nas. "Found it, B9"

We walked towards it, and with a pull, the body slid out. "Fuck" I cursed as my nose winked, having a sensitive nose right now I sure hated it.

Owen opened the white sheet and I noticed his eyes saddened when he saw the poor man was brought into this. His entire body was overly paled and covered in black veins.

"Mr. Evans is not a supernatural... he didn’t deserve to die like this"

"I know" I mumbled, I knew him too, I saw him on so occasions, just a guy who wanted to work for his family.

"He’s not a supernatural but yet a vampire killed him in cold blood," He said with clenched teeth as his hand balled in a fist.

"Let’s find that out," I said, lowering the white cloth covering him and checking his wrist to assess the twin holes. "It’s the sa..." I faced Owen. "It has the sa bite mark as a vampire"

"So a vampire then?"

I brought his wrist to my nose sniffing. "The sa mark but not the sa fluid. Vampires have a specific fluid when they bite their victim, it’s the sa stench that covered Emma when she was attacked" I gripped the iron as it bent under my hold, just reliving the mory made my killing intent flush out.

"Whoa calm down Dace... your anger is not needed right now," Owen said with hands out.

But his words were nothing to .

"If a vampire didn’t kill Mr. Evans then what did?"

I shifted my gaze back to the body, taking a whiff, I caught sothing..."It’s strange, I sll a supernatural on him but I can’t tell which one"

"What do you an you can’t tell which one? I thought you can detect anything with your nose... you know... the part of being a beast"

I straightened up covering his body and placing it in order before closing the body back in. "Its ans whatever killed him I have never encountered it before"

"So much for figuring it out"

"What about you then? Use your magic or sothing"

He sighed heavily. "I could place a tracing spell on him..."

"Well?"

"I have to go back to the scene of his death to do that, his body won’t give

answers and besides I can’t violate it, it’s not right"

I understood him, I didn’t like the idea of coming here either, it was disturbing the dead.

"Then let’s try your way. Co on let’s get out of here before soone cos"

In response to my words he shivered, it seed like he was finally aware of the cold, I was dying to lock him up in here... I was tempted.
