Chapter 104: Reconnecting {2}
"Emma" Owen said beside , we were now standing, which kind of freaked
out. I knew for sure we were literally on the bed but that wasn’t enough because we were no longer in his room but in a dark forest, foggy and also chilly. I noticed Owen’s gaze was trained before us so I followed and I t with the sa beautiful young lady.
"Hello, Emma Adams... it’s nice to see you again" she said with a loving smile and then her eyes darted to Owen and I saw the tears almost gushing out.
"You have brought my son to " Her voice was shaky.
"Mom"
"Don’t!" She stopped him before he could take us forward. "Don’t children, your hands must remain locked"
I leveled my gaze on our still locked hands.
"Or else it will break the connection"
I faced Owen who had his focus on his mom, his hand slowly stretching out but it t with an invisible wall, making his palm press against it.
She offered a smile but it wasn’t heartfelt. "The living and the dead cannot et... here is that plane" she brought her eyes to . "I have wandered for years on earth unable to transcend, I had my regret" she faced Owen back. "I couldn’t hold my baby boy" she broke as the tears slid down her cheeks. "I heard you cry just once and that was it, I couldn’t feel my body and... and I couldn’t control the pain and my mind fading, I wanted to hold you so much" with each word she took she walked closer to us but the wall remained and she could only stand a foot away from us.
"Mom" Owen said and by his voice, I could tell he was on the verge of crying, my heart shattered for him for both of them, they were both within reach and finally got the chance to see each other but they could not touch.
"The Juneau’s were gone and there was no way I could communicate..." she began placing her hand on the wall where Owen’s hand was as if she wanted to feel his touch through it. "Until I saw you..." She moved her gaze to et mine and she smiled. "And you saw ... I couldn’t understand it myself but I knew I had to intertwine our souls so that I can make contact with the living"
"That’s why you gave
the book"
She nods.
"Believe
it was never my intention for harm, I just need a way to see him again so that I can no longer have any regrets. And what made it better was you are friends with him, so I sought to communicate with you through dreams but I could only do that once" she sobbed. "Thank you Emma Adams for giving
this chance again" she looked at Owen and her smile broadened.
"Owen"
His gaze leveled and I knew he was trying to fight back the tears.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry I couldn’t be a mother that was there for you, I’m sorry for not teaching you your first steps"
He shook his head. "No no" he sobbed. "You have done enough"
She shook her head. "I’m not part of your life, I wish I could turn back ti, and maybe..." she sighed breathlessly and the tears stread down more.
"I was angry," He began. "I was angry that I didn’t know about you and I never get to hear your voice, the necklace you gave , I was stupid, I’m stupid for not cherishing it. Seeing you now, hearing your voice, is enough"
"It’s enough for
too" she pressed her palm too, I knew there was a silent prayer between them... that the wall would crumble and they would have their wish for comfort.
I could help the tears that coursed down my checks, it was painful to watch and it broke
but at the end of it, I felt fulfillnt seeing the two, both of them have finally had their long desired wish to see each other again, it wasn’t enough but Mary could transcend without regrets and Owen could finally hear his mom’s voice and interact with her, both were getting their wishes granted.
"There’s not much ti," she said, pulling away.
"M-Mom, there are so many tis I wanna tell you, please don’t go now"
She gave him a warm smile. "I can now et our ancestors, I can now watch over you properly"
He shook his head. "Mo-"
"Go! You cannot stay in this space for long!"
"Mom!"
She faced . "Thank you, Emma, for this gift, and for this, you have my blessing, you’re part of us after all, take care"
"Mom!"
~
I could still feel the cold liquid on my cheeks, the aftermath of crying, I slowly opened my eyes and t with Owen before , we both lay on the bed now, facing each other.
"Owen," I said softly, placing my hand on his, his gaze leisurely shifted to
and he forced a smile.
"Your eyes are all red"
I smiled. "So are yours" but then my smile fades. "Are you sad or happy?" I felt I needed to ask because it was really hard to read him right now and I wanted nothing more than to understand him.
A genuine smile spread across his lips. "Both" he began. "Because of you I get to see my mom again and now I know she can rest after all these years" his hand clenched mine more tightly.
"I-I wish I could have done more"
"You have done enough Emma, you’re here with ..." he intoned. "I have you"
Our gazes stayed concentrated on each other, he didn’t look away and neither did I, I heard my heart increasing in sound and speed and I found it hard to even gulp nor move, the passionate gaze he gave him was too extensive and pinned
down like a spell.
"Owen-"
He kissed .
