Chapter 16: Chapter 16: The Deal That Didn’t End
For a mont, the only sound in the room was their heavy breathing. Matteo pressed a slow kiss to Adrian’s neck as he cald down, his arms wrapped around him.
Adrian lay there, staring at the dim shadows on the ceiling. Finally... this is over, he thought to himself. I’m free now. I can now live without worrying about anything.
After a mont, Matteo pulled out.
Adrian winced softly as the sudden emptiness settled in. Matteo lay back on the bed beside him while Adrian turned away, facing the other side of the room.
After a brief pause, Matteo shifted closer and wrapped an arm around Adrian from behind. He pressed a quiet kiss to Adrian’s shoulder, a silent apology.
Neither of them said a word.
A few minutes later, the silence was broken by the buzzing of Adrian’s phone. He sat up, reaching for the device and typing rapidly for several minutes.
Matteo watched him quietly. He didn’t know who Adrian was talking to, but curiosity lingered in his eyes.
Earlier that day, once Adrian realized there was no way to refuse Matteo’s demand, he had made a hurried call to Charles. He needed sothing to erase the weight of what he was about to do.
He asked Charles to arrange for a woman to co to his house the next evening. In his mind, it would prove that tonight ant nothing, that it was only a deal he had been forced to accept.
Now Charles had finally replied. The ssage confird everything, the woman would arrive at Adrian’s house tomorrow. The ti and address had already been arranged.
A small, triumphant smile touched Adrian’s lips, a look that made Matteo’s blood run cold with suspicion.
Adrian set the phone down and headed for the bathroom to shower. He didn’t say a single word to Matteo. As far as he was concerned, the debt had been paid and the deal was finished.
The mont Adrian disappeared into the bathroom and the sound of running water filled the room, Matteo’s curiosity slowly turned into sothing darker.
Adrian hadn’t locked his phone.
Matteo picked it up and opened the screen without difficulty. Within seconds, he found the most recent conversation and began to read.
As Matteo read through the ssages and saw Adrian arranging to spend the next night with a woman sothing inside him went cold.
It was a quiet, bitter realization. Whatever had just happened between them ant nothing to Adrian.
To him, it had only been a transaction.
Matteo stared at the screen for a mont longer before placing the phone back exactly where Adrian had left it.
By the ti Adrian stepped out of the shower, Matteo was already standing up to take his turn.
That night, they slept in the sa bed like strangers.
In the morning, the atmosphere between them was cold and distant. Matteo ordered his n to drive Adrian back to his house.
Once Adrian was alone, he tried to focus on normal things. He cleaned the house, did a few chores, and prepared so food for himself, trying to keep his mind away from everything that had happened the night before.
But his body wouldn’t let him forget.
When he finally sat down on the sofa to eat, a sharp ache made him wince. The soreness in his lower back was an unpleasant reminder of the morning’s argunt.
Before Adrian left, Matteo had tried to stop him. He had offered to take care of him, saying Adrian should rest and let him deal with the discomfort he had caused.
But Adrian had snapped at him.
"I’m fine," he had said coldly. "Don’t treat
like a woman."
Reaching for his phone, Adrian typed out a final ssage to Matteo:
"I hope you keep your word and stay away from
now. Our deal is settled. Don’t look for
again. Goodbye."
He didn’t wait for a reply. He hit send and imdiately blocked Matteo’s number, determined to start his normal life again.
After finishing his al, Adrian stood up and carried the dishes to the sink. The quiet house suddenly felt lighter, as if a heavy weight had finally lifted from his shoulders. Without realizing it, he began humming softly as he walked toward his bedroom.
Soon the humming turned into singing.
A sudden burst of energy filled him, sothing he hadn’t felt in weeks. He moved around the room with a light step, half dancing as he kicked off his clothes and headed for the shower. Warm water poured over him while he continued swaying slightly to his rhythm.
But when he twisted too quickly, a sharp pain shot through his lower back.
He froze for a mont and winced.
After a mont, he let out a small breath and forced a faint smile.
At least everything was over.
Or at least... that’s what he believed.
Adrian scrubbed his body carefully, as if he could wash away every trace of Matteo from his skin. When he finally stepped out of the shower, he stood in front of the mirror and began trying on different outfits.
One shirt after another ended up on the bed until, he finally settled on sothing sharp and attractive, styling his hair to perfection and finishing with a spray of his favorite cologne.
"Adrian, new day, new you," he whispered to his reflection, admiring the glow in his eyes.
He turned slightly, checking himself again and nodding in satisfaction.
"Wow. You look really good."
Feeling pleased with himself, he stepped out of the bedroom. The ti was getting close.
He walked into the living room and switched on the TV, planning to watch sothing while waiting for his guest to arrive.
Just as he was about to sit down, the doorbell rang.
Adrian straightened imdiately.
"She’s here already? That was fast," he muttered.
He quickly fixed his clothes and hurried to the door, expecting to see a beautiful woman waiting outside.
But the mont the door opened, Adrian froze.
The person standing outside wasn’t a woman.
It was Matteo.
Tall. Imposing. Dressed in a dark, perfectly tailored suit.
And behind him stood six silent bodyguards, their presence turning Adrian’s doorway into sothing that felt less like a ho... and more like a trap.
The smile on Adrian’s face disappeared instantly, replaced with shock and anger.
"What are you doing here?" Adrian demanded.
Matteo didn’t answer.
Instead, he pushed the door open and stepped inside without waiting for an invitation.
