"Sir Liam, how long are you going to stop us from eting Emperor Kaiden? Just tell us the truth. The emperor is not currently here, right? Has he gone out to chase after that ex-companion of his?"
Duke Inferno led the small group of nobles and questioned Liam right in front of the Emperor’s castle.
From their tone and the self-justified looks they carried, it was clear that they already knew what was going on. And thus, they chose this perfect mont to press their luck and harass Liam.
Liam was well versed in their tactics and decided to hold his ground against them.
"Whatever Emperor Kaiden decides to do is none of our business. As long as he is our emperor and does all the work on ti, who are we to question what he can and cannot do? Now, please stop causing a scene here."
Duke Inferno gave Liam a calm look, but there was a storm brewing behind his eyes.
Just looking at it made Liam tense up. But he decided to hold his ground against the Duke. Liam was not going to betray Emperor Kaiden now of all tis.
"I see. So that is the side you are taking, Liam? What a pity. You are a good advisor, so I thought for sure that you would be smart as well. But alas, it seems I am wrong."
The Duke let out a frustrated sigh as he spoke these words. He shook his head, and Liam felt even tenser for so reason.
He was now more sure than ever that these people were planning sothing. He just needed to know what it was.
Thankfully, it took no ti for Duke Inferno to extend his final invitation toward Liam.
"Sir Liam, are you not tired of all this? Emperor Kaiden might be the chosen hero, but that does not make him a good emperor, right? Wouldn’t you prefer soone more...mature and hard-working to take up the mantle of the emperor?"
Duke Inferno asked, and Liam imdiately gave him a startled look.
He had not expected to be asked such a question. Especially not by the Duke of all people.
"What...do you an by that? Are you saying that you are planning a coup against the throne right now?"
Liam asked in a tense voice, but the Duke chuckled, making Liam feel even worse about all this.
"A coup? Of course not. I would say...it is more of a correction. Emperor Kaiden does not seem like he has the patience or ti to mind the throne. He seems...far too busy with that companion of his."
The Duke paused, letting Liam soak all this in. Then, he continued.
"So I was thinking...how about we crown Prince Yunn as the next emperor? Or maybe even my son. We can have the new companion choose one of them to marry and ascend to the throne. People will understand this as well."
The Duke did not have an ounce of sha when he suggested this. And a part of Liam had to agree that it was a good strategy as well.
However, just because he thought it was a good strategy did not an he agreed with it.
"I am not going to entertain this idea any longer. Please leave right now if you have nothing else to do."
Liam told the Duke, hoping that Duke Inferno would co back to his senses. Alas, his words seed to be of no use.
The Duke sighed and turned around, giving one last pity-filled look.
"Alas, you refuse to look at the bigger picture as well, Sir Liam. But that’s fine. We still have so ti. You will see what is good for you soon enough."
Liam waited for him to leave before he collapsed onto the sofa and rubbed his head.
"I will need to warn Prince Yunn and bring Emperor Kaiden back as soon as I can. Things are starting to get ssy now."

[Dear daughter,
There has been a change in plans regarding your sister and companion, Canarie. Our spy has told that the Emperor is uninterested in her, so we have joined hands with Duke Inferno to crown a new emperor.
Since we have the current ’chosen one’ with us, we can twist the narrative to make it seem like she would choose the next emperor.
So, as per our plans, we will have Canarie wed Prince Yunn. This letter is a warning for you - do not get in our way and help us out.
After all, we gave you years to seduce Prince Yunn, but you failed to do so. So now, let soone else correct your mistakes.
Your father]
The more Danielle read this letter, the angrier she got. And the angrier she got, the more she lost her reason.
It was currently dinner ti, and the letter had been brought to Danielle by her maid, citing that it was extrely important that she read it alone.
"Danielle, is sothing wrong? Your expression looks pale. Did the letter tell you sothing that is making you worry?"
Lady Canarie asked with a concerned look on her face. Her hands reached out to touch Danielle, but she pulled back before Canarie could.
"I-I am fine...I think. You don’t have to worry about at all."
Danielle promised with a heavy heart, and Canarie imdiately pulled her hand back with a startled look on her face.
"Oh! I-I see...I did not realize..."
She spoke in a low voice, making it seem like she had been bullied by Princess Danielle. But the one who wanted to cry about the injustice was Danielle.
’Should I talk to Prince Yunn about this? I wonder if he would help out...’
But she knew she could not. As much as Danielle wanted to confide in her fiancé, she knew that she had already broken his trust. He would only beco more enraged with her if she were to tell him about the letter and everything she had done.
’I cannot tell anyone about this. I will have to keep an eye on things and make sure everything is alright on my own.’
Unfortunately, it was not sothing she could feasibly do. Especially when even her loyal maids had betrayed her.
