Chapter 52: An emotional Guide?

Kellen knew he probably had a face on him as he was carried into the dical Bay again, but Taylor didn’t need to laugh at him for it.

He was brought into the sa room that he had been in only earlier that morning, annoyed as Rhys put him down gently and carefully on the bed like he was a precious thing. Taylor was there with a few mbers of the team who had been taking care of him all of yesterday, most straight faced. Taylor’s lips were trembling before she bent at the waist and started laughing.

"You look like an upset child." She said, and Kellen pouted more.

"I am not an upset child." Kellen argued and Rhys looked away from Kellen to look at Hill who had joined them. Casper had stayed behind, keeping Pala company as Kellen went back to the dical Bay. Hill was chuckling, shaking her head.

"I could argue that you fought coming here like an upset child." Kellen glared at her, frowning.

"Shut up Hill." Kellen told her, aning it, and Hill’s eyes went wide, before she looked at Taylor. She made a broad gesture towards Kellen, putting on a rather upset facial expression.

"Do you see the way he’s treating ? I’m devastated. I’ll never recover." Hill pulled out the dramatics and Taylor grinned, shaking her head at both Kellen and Hill.

"Alright, alright. Move out of the way so that the team can check on him. We’ll give them a mont as you, Karen, upsetter of the child, tell

what happened." Taylor said, her eyes dancing as she glanced around at her team and nodded. Hill gave Taylor a salute that had Taylor then shaking her head.

Kellen was left ’alone’ as the other three moved away to speak in hushed tones. Kellen watched then when he could, worried that they would speak for him. He couldn’t trust them to tell the truth, not after experiencing what he had.

It had been different from the last ti he’d had a vision. He would know, that had only been a few days ago.

Kellen shouldn’t have even worried about it though. Taylor ca over as soon as the rest of her team was leaving with the blood samples they had taken from him and Rhys ca over to take Kellen’s hand in his, giving it a squeeze.

"Kellen, now that you’re back here, care to tell

what happened this ti?" Taylor asked, a little recorder turned on to listen to everything. Kellen wondered why he hadn’t noticed it last ti, but honestly? It didn’t matter at this mont. Kellen just wanted to make sure that no one spoke for him.

"What happened?" Kellen repeated, leaning back against the pillows under his back. He sighed, shaking his head. "All I did was attempt to put away so docunts, rubbed fingers with Casper, and then I was in a vision. I can’t say that Casper was the catalyst, but I can’t say he wasn’t the catalyst either." Kellen said. Rhys’ hand tightened on Kellen’s.

"He needs gloves." Rhys said imdiately and Kellen withdrew his hand from Rhys’ to smack it lightly.

"Absolutely not. They could not even be related, I’m just ntioning it because it was odd." Kellen scolded Rhys. Rhys, however, looked stricken and serious. He was glancing between Kellen and Taylor like he was seeing a ghost.

"Don’t be so dismissive, Kellen. I’m not saying this because I am being overprotective." Rhys said, swallowing. Hill looked serious as well.

"You touched Casper and that’s how you saw what was going on with Gunther?" Hill asked and Taylor blinked.

"He saw what was going on with Gunther?" She asked and Kellen ignored the other two and turned to respond to Taylor.

"I saw the sa person, I think, who assassinates my parents. Also a flash of silver hair, a man imprisoned, that kind of stuff. I know where it is." Kellen said and Rhys slipped his hand back into Kellen’s. Taylor looked a little shocked.

"Oh. Oh no. That’s..." She trailed off, before she sighed, running a hand over her face. "That explains why he’s not back yet." She muttered darkly, and Hill let out a small noise of agreent.

"It’s the outco we didn’t want to hear, but it’s a good thing that we have an answer, even if Kellen had to give it to us." Hill said, wincing. "I’m not liking this new trend for you, Kellen. You’re not healed yet. Your body should be taking a break." Hill told Kellen and Kellen squeezed Rhys’ hand.

"I’m doing much better because of everyone’s care. So good I might be able to help with the vision I saw." Kellen said, his smile tight. He wasn’t aware of it, not physically, but the power dynamic in the room shifted. Rhys beca a swirling storm cloud, only indicated by the drop in temperature for Kellen, but Hill and Taylor turned white like ghosts.

"You aren’t going to save Gunther." Rhys told him firmly and Kellen pulled his hand free. Kellen felt a wave of rage fill him, as well as a wave of indignation. How dare he? He was the one who saw the vision! He should be the one to help them find him. Who else was going to help them do so?

He turned, pissed and ready to fight, while Rhys’ expression was unmoving. Kellen was pissed, angry, but both Taylor and Hill had seen this expression before. Both won let out a soft, slow exhale. It was the face Rhys got when he knew he was going up against a difficult opponent, but Rhys was not going to back down.

He was not going to budge on this.

"Are you serious? But I’m the one who saw it! How else am I going to be able to get the nuance of everything when I-" Rhys bent, not relenting as Kellen continued to rage. Instead, he pressed his face near Kellen’s, like a man who was putting his face near a snarling and snapping dog.

"Kellen, the people of this Guild have plenty of experience navigating visions that they have not seen. Have you forgotten who you are speaking to?" Rhys’ voice was soft, but firm. Kellen hesitated, but his anger wouldn’t fade.

"I have not forgotten who I am speaking to, so-" Rhys pressed in further, his hand tight on Kellen’s.

"I think you have." Rhys said carefully, his gaze unblinking as the full force of Rhys’ yellow gaze washed over Kellen. "Kellen, I’ve never pulled rank on you. Never. Do not make

do so now." Rhys warned and Kellen faltered slightly.

Rhys, pulling rank on him? What the hell did that even an for Kellen?

"I have not forgotten who I am speaking to." Kellen repeated and Rhys slowly, deliberately blinked, turned his gaze downwards, and then back up towards Kellen’s gaze. Kellen swallowed.

"My love," Rhys began in the sa voice, "out of everyone here, I have the most knowledge about what it’s like to live with the powers to see futures. Why do you think I am speaking the way that I am and behaving the way that I am? You are allowed to be emotional, but I draw the line at you insisting that you put yourself in danger for no reason. I can be negotiated with when it cos to the harm of your parents, but I will not bend on this issue, not when it is clear to

that you are having more visions, and more frequently. If you fight

on your care, as the one with superior powers, I will make sure that you rember that while you are my partner, I am still the Captain of this Guild."

Kellen felt the anger drain out of his body at the strong, firm words from Rhys. From the way that the man was so in his face, unafraid as Kellen fumbled with words to excuse what he was experiencing. However, Kellen didn’t even have an argunt for his behaviour.

Instead, Kellen was also confused as to why he had reacted the way that he had.

"No...I agree with you. Why, why was I so angry about that just now?" Kellen asked and heard Taylor and Hill let out a relieved breath. Rhys blinked, before he angled his head and pressed a kiss against Kellen’s forehead.

"I’m thinking it might be a reaction from your body to what’s going on inside of you. Since you’ve been stagnant for a while, you’ve been reacting more emotionally." Rhys told him and Kellen froze.

Kellen, who had been a rather rational and calm person up until this point, felt dread fill him.

"Have I been more emotional up until now?" Kellen asked, horrified. He looked around at the people in the room with him and found all of them giving him this soft look. The look people gave when they didn’t want to hurt soone with the truth. Kellen let out a horrified sound. Then grew even more horrified as he realised he wouldn’t normally do that either. "What is happening?" Kellen whispered and Rhys pulled him in close, hugging him tightly.

"It’s okay. While it might not be normal, you have us with you. We’ll take care of you and keep you safe. You have nothing to worry about, but you aren’t going to rescue Gunther." Rhys wasn’t budging on that and now that Kellen wasn’t so angry anymore, Kellen nodded.

"I shouldn’t." Kellen agreed, knowing better now that he was...sane. Oh god. Was this what Rhys felt all the ti? Was that what was happening? Kellen was experiencing Rhys’ insanity because...he was gaining his powers?

"You agree?" Rhys asked softly and Kellen let out a chuckle.

"Taylor, make sure this is recorded." Kellen said.

"It’s on." Taylor confird and Kellen let out a heavy sigh.

"I’m too injured, I’ll get in the way, I barely understand the vision power that I have right now and it isn’t even that kind of a power either. I’m overemotional, and I’m carrying a bit too much extra weight right now. I’d only be a hindrance, so I shouldn’t go." Kellen said. "Plus, Gunther wouldn’t want

there. I’m the one who sent him into that hellhole." Rhys gave him a squeeze.

"He wouldn’t care about that." Rhys told him softly. "He told

as much before he left. He didn’t bla you, knew he wouldn’t." Rhys comforted Kellen. "That, and you are not fat. Don’t dance around that fucking word. You’ve put on those extra calories for , those are mine." Rhys growled and Kellen blinked, before he felt himself soften for the other man.

"Fine. I won’t make a comnt about it anymore, but you should find it weird that your Guild keeps overfeeding ." Kellen said with a laugh and Rhys gave Kellen a squeeze.

"My Guildmates wouldn’t even consider doing sothing like that. Our Guildmates are doing that. They’ve learned that from you." Rhys insisted and Kellen lted. He sighed, sinking into the tight embrace of the man who cared about him and just...let him.

Rhys seed to have an understanding of what was going on with him, and maybe...his fears were valid. After all, he had a few people to rely on when he first awoke with his powers. Kellen should listen to his elder, and not try to bite the hand that was trying to care for him.

Rhys just wanted to best for him, and it wasn’t like he was trying to lock him away. He was just trying to care for Kellen as he was. Kellen needed to stop being so stubborn about this.
