"...That’s why I didn’t want the two of you to be around each other and et. But I guess fate went ahead and played its card. What a funny ga it played. And just when I thought the prophecy was just a myth..." Mr. Albert scoffed. "It’s actually happening, and the Wizard of El is already paying that price."
Felix staggered backward as everything ca together in his mind. He understood it all, and the knowledge left him speechless.
"No... it doesn’t make... it’s not possible... it can’t be... no." He was in denial. But it was impossible to deny.
Felix looked up at his father. "This is absurd..." His eyes were already red with tears. A lot of things troubled his mind in that mont. "What’s going to happen to him? Will he die? Is he already dead?"
Mr. Albert sighed. "Not officially, but his demonic core is already deteriorating fast. And before morning, he will be dead."
Felix gasped, staggering. "No. It can’t be. Please do sothing. Dad, please do sothing... save him. Anything. You can’t let him die like that..."
Mr. Albert stared at his son. The desperation on his face was enough. It went a long way to convince Mr. Albert to take the action he had been contemplating.
All through his life, he hadn’t grown up with his son even though he had saved his life when he was young. He had never had a true father-son bond with him. And it always haunted him. It was as though fate never wanted them to have such.
His son had never desperately begged him for sothing like most kids did. And he had never provided for his son like most fathers did. So he felt extrely terrible in that mont—terrible enough for him to make a bold decision.
"Don’t worry," he smiled at his son. "Don’t worry at all. I’ll do my best. I’ll save him... I’ll... do what I can to save him." He assured his son.
Mr. Albert was happy to see the relief on his son’s face. It was his first ti feeling like a father—seeing the joy on the face of your child when you do sothing they crave you to help them with as a parent. He felt their joy. That brief mont of warmth. And he felt fulfilled.
"How are you going to save him? With what? How can I help too?" Felix requested.
Mr. Albert shook his head. "You can’t do anything. Don’t. I’ll do what I can to help. All you have to do is exist and stay safe." Even till the end, Mr. Albert still didn’t want his son to sacrifice himself or endanger himself. He still wanted to protect him till the end.
"You can stay with him..." Mr. Albert said. "Far away from him... because if you two don’t coexist... nothing will happen..." He explained.
And it hit Felix at that mont that even if Eden was saved now, he still wouldn’t get the joy of being around him. Being around him was dangerous. And to be safe, they’d have to be apart.
Felix’s joy disappeared. This was the reality he’d have to live with and face soon.
But Mr. Albert made efforts to convince him. "It’s the only way to keep him safe. If you want to protect him... you’ll have to make that sacrifice... okay."
Felix said nothing. It wasn’t like he had any choice.
"Isn’t there another way out of this... huh?" Felix asked, his eyes already red from crying.
Mr. Albert sighed. "I’m sorry." That was all he could say. "I couldn’t give you the perfect life as a father. All I brought was trouble and chaos for you... I’m really sorry..." He was in tears. Even though he had spent a good portion of his life trying to save his son from death so he could have a better life, Mr. Albert couldn’t help but wonder if it was worth it—and if he was only setting up their life for more ss.
The two of them stayed like that for a while, both in tears while they contemplated what they had decided on.
After that, Felix got to his feet to leave.
"Where are you going?" Mr. Albert asked.
"I’ll go and stay in Eden’s room. I want to be the first person he sees when he wakes up, at least. I want to be with him then..."
Mr. Albert slowly nodded. He wanted to ask him to stay—at least for tonight, so they could spend their night chatting and catching up on things.
But he couldn’t bring himself to tell him. All he could say to Felix in that mont was, "I’m sorry I couldn’t give you the best. But I hope that you’ll always know that I truly love you. And even though it never worked out for the best, everything I ever did was out of love for you."
Felix said nothing. He only stared at his father as he slowly nodded, then turned and left the room.
Mr. Albert sat there alone, staring at the door. He couldn’t bring himself to stop his son. So he just watched him leave.
In that mont, alone in the room, all he could hope for was the best for his son. It was always what he had hoped for all through his life—the best for his son, whom he couldn’t really be a father to no matter how much he tried.
And as he stared up at the ceiling, the only words he could bring himself to say were words to his late wife, who wasn’t even alive to witness their son.
Mr. Albert smiled as he said, "I tried my best. Even though all I did was make a ss of it all, I still tried my best. But I guess my best was not enough. From the beginning, it never was. Because the mont the gods turned their backs on us, it was over for us." He spoke with a somber smile.
