It wasn’t loud. It didn’t roar like fire or scream like fear. It whispered. Brushed along their necks, tickled the back of their thoughts, and teased their pulses to beat just a little faster.

They passed servants, bodies pressed together in shadowy corners. A woman gasped quietly as another kissed her against the wall. A guard standing stiff and red-faced while a stable boy knelt before him, mouth working silently in the dark.

Kaelith didn’t react. But he saw it all.

Hale clenched his jaw and looked away, his fists tight at his sides. He was already hard arousal, aching in his trousers. He tried to calm his breath, but the scent of Kaelith’s skin beside him, the soft rustle of fabric as they walked, only made it worse.

By the ti they reached the chamber, Hale moved quickly.

He said nothing, just dropped to his knees in front of Kaelith and began removing his armour with practised precision. Breastplate first. Then the buckles. The pauldrons. Each layer loosened with care but rushed hands. He didn’t et Kaelith’s eyes. He couldn’t.

Kaelith stood still, watching him silently. He felt the way Hale’s fingers trembled against his skin, the way his breath caught every ti their bodies brushed.

Once the armour was gone, Hale removed the lighter robes beneath, smoothing the fabric of Kaelith’s sleep tunic as he dressed him for the night. His hands were firm. Efficient. But fast.

"You’re in a hurry tonight," Kaelith said, his voice calm, unreadable.

Hale froze. But only for a second. Then he bowed quickly, head lowered. "Your Highness... if there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave."

Kaelith didn’t respond at first. The silence stretched.

Then, softly almost casually, he said, "Where are you rushing off to, Hale?"

Hale’s lips parted, a faint smile flickering across them as he straightened. "I’m not rushing anywhere, Your Highness."

Kaelith tilted his head slightly. "Going to find soone?"

Hale’s eyes widened his entire body tensing. "What are you saying?"

Kaelith stepped forward, slowly. His eyes never left Hale’s.

"I asked you," he said quietly, "where are you rushing to?"

Hale was silent. He turned a little.

Kaelith’s words hung in the air, sharp and cutting, yet quietly aching. Rushing to find soone else to screw, the accusation wasn’t scread, but it struck straight to Hale’s chest.

He couldn’t defend himself.

He couldn’t lie.

He didn’t even turn around.

Kaelith’s voice was calm. Cold, almost. "You can go."

Hale moved. Slowly.

His hand reached for the door, fingers brushing the tal handle, breath uneven. He wanted to open it. He wanted to walk away before he broke any more than he already had.

But Kaelith stopped him.

"Wait."

The words were soft, almost a breath, but Hale froze in place. He felt the presence behind him.

Kaelith stepped into the space between them, and Hale’s back remained turned, his face still toward the door.

Kaelith’s hand slid down slowly.

Without a word, he touched Hale’s erection through his clothes hard, trembling, already leaking with need. Hale gasped quietly, his body jolting at the contact.

Kaelith leaned in, his lips brushing Hale’s ear. His voice was deep, low, and breathy.

"Why don’t you want to tell ... that you need ?"

Hale’s voice cracked, low and tight. "Because I don’t want to keep asking."

He shuddered as Kaelith’s lips trailed to his neck, kissing gently. Slowly. Then, deeper.

Kaelith kissed just below his ear, pulled Hale’s trousers down with quiet determination, and without another word, reached past him and locked the door.

Then his hand found Hale again bare now, gripping his arousal in full, stroking it firmly.

Hale moaned, pressing his forehead to the wood.

Kaelith’s other hand held him steady, breath warm on his neck. His tone was soft but edged in restraint.

I would have taken you tonight, deep, hard, and slow, but if I do, it’ll look like we’re both just under the spell. So... He kissed Hale’s jaw. ...spare tonight.

His grip tightened slightly. The stroking grew faster, wet sounds echoing faintly in the room.

But after all this ends... he whispered, I’m not holding back anymore."

Hale couldn’t breathe. He turned around, chest heaving, eyes wide and raw.

He didn’t speak. He didn’t need to.

His hands went to Kaelith’s trousers, dragging them down in one smooth pull already loose from his sleepwear. Kaelith’s cock sprang free, hard and slick, as if it had been waiting all night.

Kaelith took both of them in his hands, their cocks, thick and pulsing, side by side and wrapped his fingers around them both. The pressure was perfect. The friction unbearable.

He stroked them together, slow at first, grinding, their hips shifting with each pull. Their mouths found each other, kissing desperately, tongues eting, moaning into each other’s throats.

The heat was maddening.

Kaelith squeezed harder, stroking faster now. Their bodies rocked with the rhythm, the head of each cock brushing together in ti with his fist. Hale clung to him, nails digging into his shoulders.

"I’m... fuck... I’m close," Hale whispered, eyes fluttering.

"Let it go," Kaelith growled.

Hale ca first, moaning loudly into Kaelith’s neck. His hips jerked as hot release spilled across their stomachs.

The sound of Hale’s pleasure raw and beautiful pushed Kaelith over the edge.

He ca with a grunt, thick and hot, spilling over their still-pumping cocks.

They collapsed against each other, gasping, sticky, trembling. The room was quiet now, but their hearts were pounding like drums.

They both glanced down and burst into soft, breathless laughter.

Their erections still hadn’t gone down.

They stood there, cocks still full, still pulsing, even after release. The spell’s grip was real.

Kaelith smirked and pulled Hale gently toward the bed.

"Co on," he said, voice softer now.

They lay down, their bodies tangled, still hard, still aching. Their hands moved again stroking, pressing, desperate for more. It didn’t take long for the heat to rise again.

Kaelith kissed down Hale’s chest, slow and careful. Then lower.

He took him into his mouth, wet, slow, deep. Hale cried out, hips lifting, fingers buried in Kaelith’s hair.

Then Kaelith moved higher, kissing Hale’s nipples, teasing each one with his tongue, while his hands stroked him again wet, firm, unrelenting.

They kept going, wave after wave, until exhaustion overtook them both.

Their bodies were spent.

The heat never fully faded.

But eventually... they fell asleep, tangled together. No penetration. No spell-blinded act.

Just heat.

And sothing dangerously close to love.

The night deepened.

Their bodies lay tangled in soft warmth, sweat cooling against skin, their breaths slow and steady. Zarethrone outside still pulsed with desire, but inside Kaelith’s chamber, it was quiet. Still.

Until it wasn’t.

A cold wind slipped through the closed windows. The torches did not flicker, but the air shifted.

Sothing moved.

Like shadow detached from form silent, creeping, unnatural.

It hovered above Kaelith’s sleeping body, curling like smoke, and leaned close to his ear. The voice was not loud. Not sharp. Just a whisper.

"Revenge."

Kaelith stirred, his brow twitching.

"Revenge..."

It said it again, low and stretched like it ca from beneath the earth. His fingers tightened against the sheets. His legs jerked slightly.

Then his entire body began to shake softly at first, then more visibly. He breathed harder, trapped in sleep, his face tensing as if trying to escape sothing unseen.

Hale slept beside him, unaware... until the tremble grew worse.

Kaelith’s body jerked.

A muffled gasp escaped his lips.

That broke Hale’s slumber.

His eyes snapped open.

"Hm?" he mumbled, disoriented.

Then he noticed it Kaelith trembling violently beside him, breath hitching in his throat like he was drowning in the dream.

"Kaelith?" Hale whispered.

No response.

Then a strange stillness swept the room.

The shadow was gone, but Hale felt it. Felt the cold void that had just left, like sothing had been watching, breathing between them, unseen.

He turned quickly, placed a hand on Kaelith’s chest, and gave him a light shake.

"Kaelith... wake up."

Kaelith gasped aloud and shot upright, eyes wide with panic. His body glistened with sweat. His chest heaved.

The mont his eyes found Hale, his fear cracked and he grabbed him, pulling him into a sudden, desperate embrace.

They stayed like that in silence.

Hale didn’t ask at first.

He just held him.

Eventually, he pulled back slightly, brushing a thumb across Kaelith’s damp temple. His voice was quiet.

"What happened?"

Kaelith stared at nothing for a mont. Then he answered, voice hollow.

"There was sothing in the room," he said. It ca to ... I couldn’t move. I couldn’t wake. It whispered to .

"What did it say?"

Kaelith looked at him slowly.

"Revenge," he whispered. It said it more than once.

Hale swallowed.

Then nodded, voice steady even though a shiver crawled down his spine. I woke up when you started shaking... but just before that, I felt sothing. Like sothing had been in the room. I didn’t see it, but...

He stopped himself.

Kaelith watched him closely. "But what?"

"I saw your shadow move," Hale said quietly. "But your body didn’t."

A silence fell between them.

Hale pressed his palm against Kaelith’s chest, feeling the rapid beat of his heart.

Then he whispered, steady and strong, Whatever it is... don’t fear it. You’re not alone. I’m with you.

Kaelith looked at him. The tension in his jaw eased, just a little.

And for the first ti in years, Kaelith nodded not as a commander. Not as a prince.

But as a man who finally felt safe.

Silence...

The room was quiet, save for the occasional creak of the old palace walls or the flicker of torchlight beyond the windows.

Then...

A scream tore through the silence.

High, sharp, and human.

Kaelith’s body jolted upright.

He reached for the edge of the bed, legs ready to swing off, when Hale’s hand caught him firmly by the wrist.

"Don’t," Hale said, his voice low and tense.

Kaelith looked at him, confused and already moving to resist. "Soone’s out there, did you hear that? That scream wasn’t far."

"I heard it," Hale said, eyes locked on the window. But that voice... it’s not ordinary. It’s not just soone in trouble.

Kaelith’s jaw clenched. Hale, I’m the Crown Prince of Zarethrone. These are my people.

"Exactly," Hale cut in, sitting up now too, still holding Kaelith’s arm. We warned them all before nightfall. No one was to wander past the third bell. Whoever is outside... if they defied that, then they chose to face whatever waits out there.

Kaelith opened his mouth again, but Hale wouldn’t let him speak.

He leaned forward, pressing a soft, firm kiss on Kaelith’s mouth.

Then another, slower.

"Your Highness," he whispered against his lips, I need you now. You’re not going anywhere. I won’t allow it.

Kaelith froze.

The tension in him didn’t leave, his sense of duty still clawed inside him, but Hale’s hand was already trailing across his chest, fingertips drawing warmth where worry had lived monts before.

You’re the only one who can break this curse, Hale murmured. "Don’t throw yourself at shadows."

Kaelith hesitated.

But then, slowly... he kissed Hale back.

And that kiss deepened, mouths colliding with aching need. As if to reclaim safety in each other’s arms.

Their bodies moved again. Urgently this ti. Hips grinding. Lips parted in gasps. Hands clutching, stroking, taking. It wasn’t just desire. It was desperate reassurance, a clinging to sothing real amid the chaos outside.

Then..

A voice passed through the window. Cold. Unnatural.

"I will be back..."
