Haruki sat at his desk fiddling with a pen in his hand while he listened a bit absentmindedly to what his secretary was saying. The was a strong feeling of restlessness that wouldn’t seem to dissipate rather it was building up rapidly.
He had spoken to Ren just earlier about the assignnt he gave him and Ren hadn’t found the information yet but promised him that he would have part of his questions answered by dinnerti.
If it would take Ren more than twenty-four hours to find so answers, then he knew there was no one else who could give him answers in less ti. It was torturing to patiently wait to conclude he had been the one in control of the chess and not a pawn.
What had just co to him as a simple passing thought stayed stubbornly on his mind and it only got worse the harder he tried to brush it off. He looked at the screen of the tablet before him when Satomi called out to him.
She must have noticed he was a bit inattentive so she lowered the tablet she held and looked up at him. Haruki stayed with his eyes fixed on the screen only for a few seconds before he raised his head to et her gaze. She looked a bit worried as her brows drew together a bit.
"Go on," Haruki ordered calmly with a little gesture of his fingers.
She nodded and continued as ordered by Haruki. He wondered if the reason why he wanted to find a mastermind in the dark behind everything that happened was because he needed soone to bla for everything that happened.
If he could truly find soone he could bla for what happened, he wouldn’t feel all that relieved after all soone had calculated his reactions so well that he acted as predicted to get the person to accomplish their goal.
As the head of the family, that was sothing that must not happen. He got sothing out of all that happened which is the peace that cos from one less granduncle to deal with but if he was a pawn who acted as predicted, then his role as a leader and head of the family was insulted.
Everything he does has to be on his own terms no external influence especially not soone he was not aware of. He ensured that everything handled public was done by the law. He had handed over his granduncle to the police almost imdiately and for soone to predict his move. . .
"Sir?" Satomi called for his attention once again when he stared blankly at her.
Haruki nodded and t her gaze fully and knowing he would most likely not get the best out of the eting, he dismissed her.
"Do you need help with sothing?" she suddenly asked him as she hesitated to leave his office.
Haruki placed his pen down and looked at her calmly and asked, "Your father was a policeman, right?"
Her eyes widened at his sudden question but she smiled calmly almost imdiately and nodded. "Yes, he was a policeman."
Haruki nodded. Every secretary who worked with him and those who once worked with him had to undergo strict investigation before they could get to work that close to him. They would investigate their backgrounds and check for any minor or major thing that could be a problem in the future.
It was not very different with most of their employees as an application to work in Yugen Holdings was an automatic permission for a background check, everyone who applies knows that.
His secretary who worked closest to him would have to go through even more scrutiny before getting employed so he knew a lot about her and still rembered them when needed.
Having soone whose father was once a policeman and whose adopted father was also a police, was almost a bad idea but Haruki wanted as much transparency as needed to protect himself.
Hiring her was a masterstroke in calculated transparency, she was his human smokescreen and besides she was very competent.
"Could I help you with anything?" Satomi asked turning to face him fully and taking a step towards him.
"No, you can leave," Haruki said as his attitude turned cold and indifferent.
When she got to the door of his office, she stopped and turned back to him. She adjusted the blazer she wore over her dress shirt and took three deliberate steps towards him and smiled when he raised his brow at her with a questioning gaze.
"Do you have any plans for this weekend sir?" she asked with the sa level of professionalism she used while they were discussing.
Haruki was taken aback by her question but considering it could be because of a schedule she would have to fit into the weekend, he shook his head, "No, I don’t have any, why?"
"This might be wrong of to ask but I know I pretty good restaurant that just opened recently, I was wondering if you would mind trying out their dishes with ," she t his gaze calmly as she asked.
Haruki’s brow twitched slightly at that sudden question but he was still able to keep his expression unreadable as he shook his head and said, "I don’t mind."
She seed to be pleasantly surprised by his response as her face lit up with a smile. They were both asking each other sudden shocking questions and she would never have had the courage to ask him if he had not asked her about her father first.
"Is 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, okay?"
Haruki leaned back resting his back against the backrest of his chair and studied her calmly as he took his ti to think whether he should give her a positive response. He knew more than anyone what that shy smile on Satomi’s usually professional look ant.
She was inviting him out on a date. She was a pretty lady but there was this feeling of hesitation that gripped his heart when he rembered that very handso doctor.
S knew very well about his relationships and if she was willing to put forth an attempt to invite him out on a date, he hesitated but he ended up nodding. Perhaps he could be wrong about her intentions.
"Thanks for responding positively," she gave him a small bow before turning to leave. Haruki looked down at his phone on the edge of the table as she walked out and closed the door quietly behind her.
A dinner alone with a coworker felt like sothing far from Haruki’s professionalism and that should have been enough reason for him to refuse her but he didn’t. She was his secretary and they had worked together for years and if anything, he could at least enjoy a simple dinner with her, right?
Haruki tried to remain calm about the decision he made. He had enough on his mind and overthinking a simple dinner seed like a bad idea so he brushed it to the back of his mind and reached for his tablet again just in ti for his phone to vibrate loudly.
He placed the tablet down and reached for his phone. The phone number was a foreign strange number he was unfamiliar with. He frowned slightly at the number but still picked up the call.
"Hello," a familiar voice hoarsely spoke as soon as he brought the phone to his ear.
