Mycosera Glacialis was in Xion’s bag, and he had even saved a huge amount in the system space, but at what cost?
His shoes got wet when he was trying to gather the plants from the hidden lake. He himself wasn’t spared from the chilly water either.
Just as he was done with the task, settling everything, the system disappeared suddenly.
With no other choice, he decided to first save his feet. Just as he was about to change his socks, he was unexpectedly attacked by the monster guarding that lake.
It was nothing more than bad luck. Cruel, unforgiving luck.
For a mont, everything was just white noise, drilling into his ear but not registering in his mind.
And then, a familiar ding echoed in his mind, clear and almost cheerful.
[Why don’t you shout His Grace’s na?]
Xion’s eyes snapped open, his heart lurching in his chest.
’You have the nerve to co back now?’ he snarled inwardly, fury lacing his ntal voice. If he could move, he would have grabbed the system by its taphorical collar and shaken it till it rattled.
[Now, now, dear host,] the System replied, its voice awfully cherry. [I did warn you that there might be so issues with the connection. But that’s not important right now, is it? We have bigger problems at hand, no?~]
Much to Xion’s chagrin, the system wasn’t wrong. He gritted his teeth, grimacing up at the endless white sky above him. ’I don’t suppose you plan to help get this thing off, do you?’
[Ah, no can do! I am just a little assistant. But... I have sothing better! Sothing that fits the scenario perfectly~]
Xion’s eyebrow twitched. That tone... It was the one the System used when it was about to spew so nonsense.
By now, he had figured out that this little artificial assistant had started a new hobby, and it was watching dramas and reading mangas.
Most of them seed to be BL. Sure enough, the next words were exactly what he had expected them to be.
[You know...] the System began in a hushed voice as if it were saying sothing mysterious, [when the couple goes to the mountain, there is always a plot of separation. The lover will shout the na, and the male lead will always co running. And then... well, you know what happens next. Hot steamy sex! Should we try it?~]
’Are you high on codes? Or did you finally short-circuit from watching too many BL dramas?’
Xion was more exasperated than embarrassed. ’Stop watching porn all day long, and find sothing to help out.’
He lay there in the snow, waiting for his limbs to gain a bit of strength.
Pushing this dead mammoth off was going to take a lot of his power.
He didn’t want to use another dose to increase his power. Last ti, he ended up in a coma. And if this system went offline again, wouldn’t he be stuck inside the lab?
The eting ti with Darius had already passed. The night was approaching fast and he wanted nothing else but to return by his lover’s side.
Will Darius be worried now?
Xion swallowed hard, eyes stinging with frustration and a touch of hopelessness. Even the absurdity of the system’s nonsense didn’t lift his mood much.
Is this what they call it? Thinking about the loved ones in the desperate situation?
When have you occupied so much of my heart that I thought of you and not Noxian or even Aunt Serena?
A choked laugh escaped his lips. It was mirthless, bitter even.
His thoughts flickered to that morning. He could almost hear Darius’s laugh, feel the warmth of his breath against his cheek.
A tremor passed through him, ’Darius... would you really co running if I called?’
[Host?]
The system too noticed that despite not saying much, Xion’s ntal health wasn’t so good.
[Hey, I found it!] The system tried to speak in its heavily cheerful voice. And it managed to gain Xion’s attention.
[This is the lover’s call speaker. Just spend 5000 points and you will be able to call Darius. The best thing is no one else will be able to hear it. Want to try it?]
5000 points? Xion nearly laughed. ’Even if I had the points, I can’t move my damn hands!’he nearly snapped.
When he tried to shift his arm, it felt like a cold, dead weight pressing down harder against his chest. His breath faltered for a second, pain flaring across his ribs.
The broken shield had protected Xion’s organs from getting impacted, but with the heavy weight pressed on his body, even moving his fingers seed like an arduous task.
He needed help. Urgently at that.
In monts like these, he felt utterly useless. He was lucky to have a system and yet, he couldn’t buy sothing from it.
It would be useless if he couldn’t even use it. With his hands buried under the monster, even if the gadget was placed near him, it would be just another thing around him. A re decorative piece.
Why was he like this? Why was he even trying so hard to find the cure in the first place?
It was as if all the things he wanted to avoid were rushing inside his mind. Ah, I rember it now, he mused as a lone tear slipped past his eye.
I wanted to prove to everyone that I was not a calamity, that I could also do good things and save people, that I was not just so useless trash, that... I could be... loved.
A dull ache spread through his chest, and he couldn’t tell if it was the crushing weight or sothing deeper clawing at him.
Xion shut his eyes tightly, not allowing another tear to roll down his temple. He didn’t reply to the system.
With a hoarse voice, he rasped, "D-Darius, can you help ?"
His voice wasn’t loud. It wasn’t even a shout, just a few words that disappeared into the howling wind like his foggy breath.
