In the past, Xion had been powerless.

It was not just the way his life started Xion Vaelis, where even taking a few steps made his legs feel as heavy as a mountain.

Before he beca soone worthy of respect, before he earned his na through countless sleepless nights spent glued to his study table... He had simply been a foolish boy who still held onto hope.

And it was that very hope that had made him powerless.

Every ti he was cast aside like a cheap mop while his family went out to spend ti together, he would press his pencil harder against the paper, scribbling with even more determination.

I didn’t do well this ti. That’s why they don’t want to take with them. But next ti, when I get full marks, they’ll definitely take along...

Yes, I must be a bad boy. If I go with them, I’ll only mbarress them.

Though Xion’s young mind couldn’t quite grasp the difference between ’embarrass’ and his own misspelled ’mbarress,’ he understood well enough that it wasn’t a good thing.

So, he studied even harder.

When the results ca in, he had rushed ho. His fingers turned white from the force he had been clutching his report card, heart pounding with anticipation.

First rank! He had done it! Surely, they would smile now. Surely, they would finally acknowledge him.

But instead, he was t with a slap from his father as he had made his sister feel bad.

Followed by a beating from his second brother.

Growing up in such an environnt had twisted his mind in strange ways.

He learned to dodge negative comnts as if they were pebbles in a river. He would let them flow past him, never stopping to let them weigh him down.

He only took situations seriously if his life was in imdiate danger.

As for everything else?

Were those flowers gently swaying in the air not pretty enough to admire? Were these ancient people around him not interesting enough to observe?

Even the rocks scattered along the edge of the room seed strangely beautiful in his eyes.

And right now, he was staring at the small room with his wide curious eyes where both he and Allen had been thrown in. with his wide curious eyes.

Well, now he had even experienced going to jail. It was kind of exciting actually.

Their feet were bound with tallic chains, and from the way they shimred ever so slightly, they were undoubtedly enchanted. Most likely with a tracing spell or sothing similar.

Their hands were free. However, with the heavy chains attached to their ankles, their movent was severely limited. Even the door of the jail was out of their reach.

Xion silently scooted toward Allen, and now both were sitting on the dirty floor.

"Brother, I am sorry," Xion finally muttered.

"What?" Allen, confused by the sudden apology, turned to look at him. Despite sitting in the dimly lit cell, he still carried the sa quiet radiance.

Even now, he looked every bit like a noble. Albeit he was guilty, he was still calm and composed. There was not a shred of fear in those eyes.

Although he was sitting in a dirty cell where criminals were kept, Xion looked untouched by the filth of their surroundings.

Xion lowered his gaze, gripping the soft fabric of his sleeve. "If I hadn’t ssed up... we wouldn’t be here," he whispered.

Allen sighed, tilting his head back against the cold stone wall. "It was not your fault. And if anything I should thank you, teacher. So, don’t worry about anything. We will be fine when His Grace returns."

Xion mimicked Allen’s action and now both were staring at the spiderweb-covered ceiling.

"I can take us out, but I don’t think that will help."

Allen rely shook his head. Xion always had strange solutions to problems. And Xion was indeed correct.

Escaping from here would only make them fugitives.

It was much better to wait in the jail for the morning to co.

The chains at their ankles rattled slightly as Xion shifted. "Then we wait," he murmured, closing his eyes for a brief mont. "But I hope His Grace doesn’t take too long. I don’t like the sll of this place."

Allen let out an audible sigh, "Of all the things to complain about..."

"But it’s true," Xion directly leaned his head over Allen’s shoulder, "It slls like urine mixed with sothing I don’t want to think about."

Allen knew very well just how bad the situation in the jail could get. With extre torture, it was not uncommon for people to lose control of their bladders.

He was actually glad that he was with Xion. If Xion had been captured alone, that would only rile up His Grace even more.

Xion might not realize it, but he was very important. Far more vital than even him and Ray.

After all, they could not make His Grace live longer.

The archduke was already twenty-six. According to what they had calculated so far, even if they used all their ans, Darius would not live past thirty.

Thus, Xion was a necessity. And there was no one who could fulfill that role.

Barely a few minutes had passed when the tal bars rattled violently. They were struck with a heavy force. The sound echoed through the dimly lit chamber and Allen and Xion were instantly alert.

Xion’s eyes snapped open, his body tensing instinctively. Allen remained still, though his gaze sharpened as he turned toward the source of the noise.

A rough voice drilled into the cracks of the bars, laced with amusent and impatience.

"Hope you two are comfortable in there," the unseen figure drawled. "Wouldn’t want our honored guests to feel neglected."

Xion knew that voice. He had talked to this person, he had argued with this person.

"What are you doing here, father?"

Allen was quick with his words, but he did not bother to stand up.

It was a sign of respect, and this old man did not deserve it.

Xion directly fell on Allen’s shoulder, found a comfortable position and shut his eyes.

Besides, looking at this bastard would only sully his gaze.

However, the said bastard was very tenacious.

"I told you to be a good son, but you," He pointed his finger at Allen, "Oh, you always have to ruin it!"

Allen directly blasted a mana ball at the bars, exactly where his father was.

It blasted, shaking the entire cell, but there was not even a scratch on the bars.

But it was never his intention.

Allen just wanted to show what he really thought of his father.

Enemy. That was what his entire family was to him.

The old man was about to yell, but in an instant, he beca strangely calm.

The sharp click of heels echoed through the otherwise silent corridor.
