~Alistair’s POV~

"In our ho? You didn’t think you should tell ?" he demanded. "What if I ca back with my mother? Do you want to start another hardship?"

"I tried to call you," I said quickly. "I couldn’t reach you—"

"And because you couldn’t reach , you decided it was okay to have him here?" Alex shot back.

His eyes hardened.

"How many tis has he been here when I wasn’t around? How often are you bringing him into our ho without knowing?"

"No, Alex... it’s not like that," I said quickly, my voice breaking as tears filled my eyes. "He’s never been here before."

The weight of his anger hit all at once. I stepped closer, reaching for him.

"I’m sorry, baby," I said quickly. "I didn’t an for this to happen. I didn’t think you’d react like this. I tried to call you, I swear."

My voice trembling.

"It won’t happen again... please forgive ."

"Forgive you?" Alex scoffed, running a hand through his hair as he paced the room.

"I co ho after a long day, wanting to see my husband... and I find another man sitting right beside him in our living room?" he said, his voice tight with anger. "That’s not normal, Alis. I don’t even want to imagine what the two of you were doing here for hours."

"Alex, please—"

"Alis, please," he interrupted, his voice dropping into a tired, frustrated rasp. "I don’t understand you sotis. You know what is wrong and what is right. It’s not like I’ve ever brought anyone into this house behind your back. You would never see do that. Even if I wanted to, I would tell you. I’d tell you several tis and make sure you were completely okay with it first."

He stepped closer, his eyes searching mine. "You called, you texted... you knew I was busy and couldn’t reply. Yet, you went ahead and brought a man into our ho, soone you know had intentions toward you before he found out we were married. How do you want to react? If I did the sa thing to you, how would you feel?"

"I’m sorry," I murmured, the guilt heavy in my chest. "I’m so sorry, Alex. It won’t happen again."

"Putting my feelings aside," Alex continued, pacing the room again, "what if it had been my mother who walked in? Or my father... or any of my relatives?"

He looked at .

"What if they saw him here and told my mother? She doesn’t even know Andrew. The last ti she saw him was at that ss at the golf club. When you want to do sothing like this, Alis... please, let know. Carry along. Inform ."

He ran a hand through his damp hair. "My mother can co here anyti, you should expect that. But Andrew doesn’t have that kind of right, so why would you bring him here?"

I couldn’t even find words to apologize anymore. I simply walked toward him and threw my arms around his waist, burying my face in his chest. "Please, baby, forgive . I know I was wrong. I should have made sure you were inford and had agreed to it first. I’m sorry... I’m so sorry. It won’t happen again."

Slowly, I felt the tension leave his body. He sighed, his hands finally resting on my back as he began to calm down.

"I’m not saying you can’t have friends or bring them over," he said softly. "Just let know next ti... inform first, and let agree to it."

Alex pulled back slightly, looking at with a pained expression.

"Maybe I’m the one making things difficult for you because of the kind of family I have," he said quietly. "I’m sorry for that too."

He held my gaze.

"But since we’ve chosen to be together through all of this... please, just let know next ti. I’m trying not to give my mother any reason to complain about you. I don’t want her to have even a single excuse."

His voice softened.

"Please... understand ."

"I understand, baby," I said, looking up at him through tear-filled eyes.

Alex leaned down, his forehead resting against mine. "I’m sorry for shouting at you, Alis. I just don’t want any eting or any situation that will bring more trouble or hardship to us again. We’ve been through enough."

"I’m sorry too," I murmured.

He leaned in and kissed , a soft, lingering kiss.

After a mont, he took my hand, his grip firm and familiar.

"Okay," he said quietly, the tension finally easing. "Let’s go downstairs."

Hand in hand, we walked out of the room together.

As we walked downstairs, Alex squeezed my hand and glanced at .

"My sister called earlier, on my way ho," he said. "She said Mom reached out to her... she wants her to co over this weekend."

I looked at him, slightly surprised. "Your sister called you and you picked up? But I called you so many tis and you didn’t answer."

"I was really busy at work, so I didn’t see your calls at first," Alex said, his voice softer. "But when I was done and saw how many tis you’d called, I tried to reach you back imdiately. I even replied to your ssages, but you didn’t respond."

He looked at .

"That’s why I left the office early... I got worried when I didn’t hear from you."

"Oh," I murmured. "I’m sorry, baby. I got caught up in what Andrew was showing and didn’t check my phone."

"It’s okay, let’s just eat," he said, leading to the dining table.

As we sat down and the maid served our dinner, Alex leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face. "It’s actually very surprising that my mother finally wants to reconcile with my sister. My father and so many other people have tried to talk sense into her for a long ti with no luck."

He looked at intently, his eyes searching mine. "She ntioned that whatever you said to her really got to her. I don’t know exactly what you told her, Alis, but it clearly hit ho. She’s actually changing... and honestly, it’s surprising to see."
