~Alistair’s POV~
I pulled back just enough to look at him, my eyes red and swollen, and before he could say another word, I pulled him down into a fierce, desperate kiss. It was a kiss for every sleepless night, every insult we’d endured, and every fear we’d conquered.
"God, I was so terrified," I breathed against his lips.
"I know, love. I know," he whispered back.
He leaned closer, his lips brushing my ear.
"We’re going ho, baby."
Then he lightly tickled , a soft laugh escaping him.
"Stop, Alex," I said, trying not to laugh through my tears.
"Don’t cry," he said gently. "Your husband is here to take you ho. You should be happy."
"I am happy," I replied, my voice soft. "I just... can’t believe it."
"It’s real, baby," he said, looking into my eyes. "You’re coming ho."
I looked at him again, then wrapped my arms around him tightly.
He held just as close.
After a mont, he pulled back slightly and smiled at .
"I love you so much, my headache."
I frowned slightly. "You’re the headache, not ."
He raised a brow. "So... you don’t love ?"
I smiled, my heart finally at peace.
"I love you so much."
He kissed again, softer this ti, then took my hand.
We walked into the living room together, hand in hand, just as my mother stepped out of her room, a knowing smile on her face.
We all sat down, the air finally light enough to breathe.
"Alex," my mother said, her eyes twinkling. "I want you to tell your husband exactly what your mother said to on the phone."
Alex turned to face , taking both of my hands in his.
"Baby, do you rember how it was when we got married? My mother wasn’t there. She didn’t give her blessing. Your mother wasn’t there either. None of our relatives, none of our cousins, or family friends were invited. Most of the people my mother knows don’t even realize I’m married."
He squeezed my fingers.
"She admitted that’s why it was easy for her to try to set up with other people, because in her eyes, our marriage didn’t really exist yet. So... she set a condition."
I steadied myself, my chest tightening slightly.
"What condition?"
"She wants a redo," Alex said, a small smile playing on his lips. "A real wedding. One she plans from start to finish. She wants her friends there, her circle... everyone."
He paused, then added softly, "She told , ’Why should my son get married and none of my world be there to see it?’"
He paused, searching my eyes.
"I told her I wouldn’t speak for you. I won’t force you into another ceremony if you don’t want it. So... are you okay with us having another wedding, Alis?"
I didn’t even have to think about it. If a few hours of dressing up for her friends was the price of our peace, I would pay it a thousand tis over.
"If that’s what it takes for to co ho to you without a war waiting for us... then yes," I said softly. "I’ll marry you again. Every single day, if I have to."
Alex let out a breath of pure relief. "She actually said you have a very ’sharp mouth,’ Alis. She told your talk in the dining room really got under her skin. She realized there was no point in fighting soone as determined as you, but she wants you to... maybe tone it down a little in the future."
He laughed softly. "But she’s accepted us. She wants us to co over this weekend so she can talk to you properly."
I turned to my own mother, my eyes wide with excitent. "Mom... can I go ho now? Can I go back with my husband tonight?"
My mother let out a mock groan, crossing her arms. "Can’t you just chill for a second? The ink isn’t even dry on this peace treaty and you want to run off tonight? Can’t you at least wait until tomorrow?"
"No, Mom," I insisted, already standing up. "I want to go back to my house. If we’re planning a wedding, I want to do it from my own bed. I miss my ho."
My mother sighed, though her eyes were soft. "Fine. Go back to your husband. But Alis... listen to . Don’t make it a habit where I call you and you start saying your husband won’t let you co, or that you’re too busy."
She looked at gently. "I’m still your mother. If you visit his mother, you should visit too. Bring my son in law to see sotis, and take care of each other. That’s all I want."
"You don’t have to worry, Mom. I’ll co visit you often," I promised, leaning in to hug her tightly. "Everything is going to be perfect from now on."
Alex and I stood up together, thanking her one last ti before heading quickly to the bedroom to pack my things.
For the first ti in a month, the weight was gone.
We weren’t just holding on anymore... we were finally going ho.
As soon as we were inside the room, I thought we would imdiately start packing, but the second the door clicked shut, Alex hauled against him. He kissed with a desperation that spoke of every lonely night he’d endured. He was trembling, the facade of the "composed husband" finally cracking.
"Babe," he whispered against my lips, his breath hitched. "I have to tell you... ever since you left that house, I haven’t slept. If I managed four hours a night, it was only because I drank myself into a stupor. I was so worried. When your mother told about the one-month deadline, I felt like the floor had dropped out from under . I’m so happy right now, I can’t even put it into words."
I cupped his face, my own eyes stinging. "I felt the sa way, baby. I was so troubled. I couldn’t sleep. I spent every night staring at the driveway or checking my phone every five minutes, praying you’d call. But we made it. We’re finally here."
We shared a long, deep kiss, a private celebration of our survival. The heat between us flared up instantly, the months of tension turning into a slow, rhythmic burn.
"We shouldn’t do too much here," I murmured, pulling back just enough to catch my breath. "Let’s get ho first. I want to be where I can scream at the top of my lungs without worrying who hears us."
Alex grinned, his eyes dark with promise. "Alright, babe."
We moved quickly, packing my essentials into my suitcase. I didn’t take everything, I knew I would still co back to visit my mother, so I left a few things behind.
Once the bag was zipped, we said goodbye to my mother. I didn’t want to stay any longer than necessary, so we practically ran to the car.
As Alex pulled out of the driveway, a wild, electric thrill surged through . I was finally going back to my own bed, to my own life, and most importantly, to my husband. My body was already hard for him, a deep, restless hunger that made my skin tingle. I had been dying for him to take , to feel him buried deep inside my ocean again, marking as his in the only way that mattered.
I couldn’t contain it anymore. "Baby, drive faster!" I scread, the sound echoing in the small space of the car as I gripped the seat. "I need you to get ho right now so you can fuck . I’ve missed you so much I’m going crazy!"
Alex looked at , a dark smile spreading across his face as his grip tightened on the steering wheel.
"I hear you, baby," he growled, his eyes flashing with the sa desperate need.
I rested my hand high on his thigh, squeezing firmly as he stepped on the gas, the engine roaring as we raced toward the house.
We were going ho to eat, fuck, and sleep peacefully, for the first ti in a month.
Honestly... nothing could feel better than that.
Alex kept smiling, his eyes fixed on the road with...
