The air around Echo crackled with an unfamiliar stillness. The brilliant light that had surrounded him during the transition was fading, and as it dissipated, he found himself standing on soft, green grass. The cool breeze of this new world kissed his skin, carrying the sweet scent of flowers and the earthy aroma of distant forests. The sky was clear and boundless, a vibrant shade of blue with the faintest tinge of orange near the horizon.

He blinked, absorbing the scene before him. It was... peaceful. The world he had chosen was real. His heart, for the first ti in what felt like an eternity, slowed. He had left behind the bloodshed, the endless battles for power, the unforgiving world he had fought in. The weight that had pressed against his chest for so long, the never-ending doubts, had all vanished in an instant.

But as his senses sharpened, the lingering unease returned.

There was sothing off about this place. The serenity was almost too perfect, the silence too overwhelming. He felt the familiar tug of magic in the air, but it was faint, as though sothing was intentionally holding it back. He had chosen this world for its simplicity, for the peace that it promised. Yet now, a gnawing sense of wrongness settled over him.

Echo clenched his fists, grounding himself. This wasn’t the ti for hesitation. He had made his choice. He would live this life. For once, he would embrace the stillness and quiet. He could feel the magic, subtle but present, flowing around him. It was there, hidden beneath the surface.

But sothing else lurked in the depths of the air, as though waiting to reveal itself.

As he stood in contemplation, trying to steady his thoughts, a sudden rustling in the trees broke the silence. Echo turned instinctively, his body tensing. His hands moved to the small dagger at his belt, but the movent was more of habit than necessity.

A figure erged from the woods—a young woman, her long hair flowing behind her like a dark river, eyes bright with curiosity. She moved with the grace of soone who belonged to this world, as if the earth itself were part of her.

"You’re new," she said, her voice warm, inviting. Her smile, though friendly, carried a trace of sothing more. Sothing ancient.

Echo studied her carefully. The way she moved, her steady gaze—it was clear she wasn’t simply a normal villager. Her aura, though faint, pulsed with a quiet power. It wasn’t overwhelming, not like the energy he had felt in his previous world, but it was there, subtle and undeniable. The magic that flowed through her seed to blend with the world itself, a part of the earth, the air, the sky.

"Yes," Echo replied, his voice calm but guarded. "I’m new. I was... sent here."

The woman’s eyes sparkled with amusent. "Sent here? Hmm... a traveler then. Or perhaps a lost soul."

Echo’s heart skipped a beat at the ntion of "lost soul." Could she know? Could she sense the fragnted nature of his being, the emptiness left by his countless deaths?

Before he could respond, a low rumble sounded from deep within the forest. The woman’s expression shifted, her smile vanishing as her eyes narrowed in concentration.

"Sothing’s wrong," she murmured, more to herself than to Echo. Her gaze flicked back to him. "You should leave. Now."

Echo hesitated, but the urgency in her voice pushed him into action. Without thinking, he began moving toward the trees, his senses alert to the ominous presence that was rapidly approaching.

As they moved through the dense woods, the ground beneath them trembled. Echo could feel it in his bones—the unmistakable sensation of an approaching force. It was too late to run. They were already here.

From the shadows of the trees, massive figures erged, their hulking forms casting long, dark shadows on the forest floor. Echo’s breath caught in his throat. These creatures were no ordinary beasts. Their bodies were composed of shifting shadows, their eyes glowing with an unnatural light. They were made of darkness itself, and yet, they moved with purpose, as if guided by an intelligence far greater than any animal.

The woman beside Echo shifted into a battle stance, her hands glowing faintly with magic. She muttered sothing under her breath—words that made the air around her crackle with power.

Echo’s pulse quickened. He had no ti to waste. The power system he had grown accustod to—his ability to summon the dead, to control the forces of necromancy—wasn’t going to help here. These creatures were unlike anything he had encountered before. But this world, this new life, hadn’t given him the tools he needed to fight. He would have to rely on sothing else.

He focused, drawing the energy that had always been a part of him. This ti, however, he didn’t call forth the dead. He reached for sothing different—a force that had been dormant, hidden beneath the layers of power he had cultivated in his past lives.

For a mont, nothing happened. The air thickened, the shadows pressing in from all sides. But then, a spark of energy surged within him, breaking through the barrier of uncertainty. His vision blurred as raw power, unrefined and untapped, flooded his body. The sensation was unlike anything he had felt before. It was as though the very fabric of this world had responded to his call.

With a shout, Echo extended his hand, and the ground beneath the shadow creatures began to shift. Roots and vines, thick and tangled, shot up from the earth, wrapping around the monstrous beings and pulling them toward the ground. The earth itself seed to obey his command, though there was a wild, untad edge to the magic that surprised him.

The woman beside him gasped, her eyes wide with recognition. "You’re—"

Before she could finish, one of the creatures lunged, its jaws wide, but Echo’s power surged again, the earth beneath him trembling in response. With a flick of his wrist, the shadows were ripped apart by a sudden, sharp crack of energy. The creatures howled in frustration, their bodies distorting as they attempted to reform.

Echo gritted his teeth, his power growing with each passing second. He was tapping into sothing primal, sothing that felt more like the essence of this world than any magic he had ever known. It was alive, organic. The energy was connected to the very heart of the earth.

"That’s enough," the woman said sharply, her voice cutting through the chaos. She raised her hand, and with a flash of light, a protective barrier shimred around them, sending the remaining creatures retreating back into the shadows.

The silence that followed was deafening. Echo stood, panting, his hands still crackling with energy. The creatures had been driven back, but the feeling that sothing far more dangerous was lurking remained.

The woman turned to him, her eyes still wide with disbelief. "That... that power... it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen."

Echo looked down at his hands, still trembling with the aftershocks of the magic. He felt the weight of it, the promise of sothing vast and untad within him. It was as if the very world had bent to his will.

And then, the twist ca.

The ground beneath him cracked, and a low rumble echoed through the forest. Sothing far greater than the shadow creatures was stirring.

Echo’s heart sank as he realized that this world, so peaceful on the surface, was not as simple as it seed. There was sothing here—sothing ancient and terrifying—that had just awakened.
