"They can’t!" Neil argued. "Not the orphanage visit, at least."

A hint of hesitation flickered across Archie’s face and disappeared in the very sa second.

"If that is so important to you, then you can represent there.. Arrange for to leave alone," he instructed, his voice firm and unwavering.

"You shouldn’t, Arch. Your presence in the ho is important, and you know it," Neil sighed, taking large strides across the room to block his boss’s path. Not like that would be effective in stopping a determined Archie, but then, he still had to try. He added, "It’s not like you can do anything when you get ho anyways. You let people that offend you go...on this day. It’s your family... Sorry, it’s their death anniversaries."

His words struck a nerve and Archie stopped dead in his tracks,

"Who says I’m leaving for ho to punish soone that offended ? How did you even conclude that anyone offended ?," he smirked, letting out a dry chuckle. "Neil, I am just going ho to see my wife."

"But you don’t have to get ho before seeing her," Neil returned the fake laugh. "Why don’t I make video call with Jodi and have you speak to her? That way you can see—"

"If I wanted to see her through a screen, I have caras stationed in my living room I can watch right now. The video call you’re offering is also much preferable if we’re both alone. Very possible since she has a phone and I have one,." Archie stated in an emotionless tone. "We are leaving for ho now, except you co up with a better idea on how we can go about this."

Neil cussed inwardly, regretting the day he accepted the job as Archibald Donovan’s personal assistant for the umpteenth ti in over ten years. Such incidents only happened once in a while when the ntally deranged version of Archie tried to claw its way to the surface, but even in those rare monts, Neil never failed to recount again in his head, what the other options he had were.

The only problem was that...he had none.

His job was perfect, as it provided him recognition that could rival other company leaders and CEOs’ in the industry; a pay and quarterly bonus that competed with the profit so middle tier corporations raked in annually; flexible hours...well, according to Archie’s schedule; an appropriate workload, considering that he was working in A² Corp, the conglorate that it was, having several other corporations underneath it; a company paid biannual vacation leave, and countless other opportunities. Where else would he get those except by working together with Archie?

Asides that, who would resign from a job under Archibald Donovan and expect to get employed sowhere else? A job in another continent? Maybe yes. But definitely not in this country and continent. In short, anyone, especially soone in Neil’s position, ready to resign should also be ready to move completely to the other side of the world.

"Let’s do this," he finally spoke after a prolonged silence, "We can go to the orphanage tonight and as soon as we’re done, you leave for ho. I will stay here to wrap up the rest."

"Good," Archie nodded in agreent, "It’s in monts like this that I feel like patting myself on the head for adopting you at the orphanage when you were just a willy boy. What would I have done without the smart Neil Donovan by my side now, huh?" Lifting his hand to ruffle Neil’s hair, even though they were the sa height, he added, "Be a good boy."

He pushed the two phones into Neil’s hands, bypassing him to walk out of the living room.

"Fuck you," the latter hissed, making sure his voice was loud enough for Archie to hear him, and also low enough to allow the him pretend not to hear. "If I must remind you, you were also a willy boy at the ti."

"Tell that to the birds," Archie taunted, throwing the words over his shoulder without turning.

Neil stared at his retreating back with no intention of following him. Knowing Archie, the man would probably forget that he just complinted him a few seconds ago and would decide to teach him a lesson for cussing at him just now.

’... smart Neil Donovan by my side now...’ the words echoed in his mind.

There; that was second reason he couldn’t just resign. His na, Neil Donovan. And his role, Archibald Donovan’s lifelong assistant.

Those, coupled with countless other reasons, held him down.

He looked down at the two phones in his hand and switched them both off, one after the other. These damned objects started the drama that just concluded just now, so he was definitely keeping them away for the rest of their trip.

NewDun Elites University.

The campus grounds was milling with students hurrying to and fro their respective lecture halls, into their waiting private cars, to the private hostels, and into the relaxation buildings that littered the campus. The main aim of all humans within the university walls at the mont? To escape the scorching hot sun that sat up in the sky, prickling their delicate skins with its heat and hurting their visions.

However, contrary to the scene outside, the atmosphere was exceptionally cool within the walls of the Theatre departnt morning lecture hall.

"I would totally love to," Avery lied for the nth ti in the few minutes since lecture ended, as she waved off another set of girls who invited her to dinner with them so they could get acquainted with each other’s families.

She sighed out loud. How the hell had her blissful mood from earlier this morning, dampened to this extent?
