’Is he a ghost?’ she wondered.
Minutes later, she was lying on her bed and buried under multiple layers of sheets, her phone in hand. Her finger was hovering over the search bar on the screen where she had typed in Avery McCAllum. Even though she had successfully restrained herself from doing that for days now, it was particularly hard this night.
’I just want to know what they are saying about . If at all there’s anyone who suspects that family...’ she thought, trying to convince herself it was alright to click on the search button.
However, her deliberations were soon cut short when an email notification dropped in from Leroy Jas. She clicked it imdiately and read through the content, sitting up as she did.
The mont she read to the last line, a video call ca through from Jodi which she picked imdiately.
"Did you receive the email too?" the both of them asked simultaneously as soon as the call connected, surprising themselves.
"I did," Avery replied. "And it’s shocking cause what kind of small actress with an extra role gets invited to the script reading where top actors and actresses will also be present?"
Jodi reply ca in form of a loud laughter, confusing Avery all the more.
"What? I thought that was how things worked..." she trailed off, not wanting to show how ignorant she really was about the entertainnt industry.
"You are right," Jodi confird. "I am laughing because even though you know an extra isn’t invited to the main script reading, you still wonder why you were invited. Did you even read the script you were sent at all?"
"I have not. It was just sent hours ago so I planned to read through it tomorrow."
Humming in understanding, Jodi replied, "I will advise to read it tonight. The mail states they want to rush the process so I’m guessing it won’t take long before acting comnces. Will you need my help?"
"I will. Very much at that," Avery jumped at the offer instantly. She was about to say how much she appreciated Jodi’s gesture when she rembered why they had parted sotis ago. "How are you though, Jodi? Were you able to ask Neil why they didn’t interact with us in the private room?"
"I wasn’t able to," ca the reply. "How about you? I didn’t even expect you to pick my call since I thought you’d be busy."
"Busy with what?"
"You know..." Jodi hesitated, a tinge of surprise belying her voice, "You are married to Mr Donovan so he definitely won’t hold back..."
"Hold back from what?"
"Sex of course!" Jodi exclaid, frustration marring her expression.
Avery felt her cheeks go warm all of a sudden at that answer. "Just because we are married doesn’t an..." she tried to co up with a stupid excuse without explaining she was just a fake wife, when she was interrupted.
"The fact that you are married is supposed to make it easier to decide, isn’t it? Except..." Jodi trailed off, shaking her head slowly as she continued, "Didn’t you see Mr Donovan at all?" She refused to believe Archibald had, instead of going to his wife, gone to another woman instead. After all, who knew if Neil would have done too if she wasn’t there?
It was at this point that Avery noticed she and Jodi seed to be discussing completely different topics. What decision was it that their marriage made easier to decide?
"What are you talking about, Jodi?" she asked. "And I did see Archie but he was totally alright and not in any way strange."
"Really? I guess Neil was the only one drugged then. I thought it was the two n since they completely ignored us while we..."
Avery slowly zoned out after she heard the ’drug’ word. She had ntioned just a few minutes ago that Archie had not seed strange in any way when she saw him, but in fact, he was. From the sudden kiss in the elevator to the way he ignored her questions and sent her to bed early.
Was he hurrying to et another woman? Like Brian...
Shaking her head to stop her thoughts from going astray, she murmured beneath her breath, "Archie is no Brian."
She was Avery McCAllum taking the place of Ava Donovan, but that didn’t give her the right to Archie’s loyalty. If he really left to et another woman, she had no reason to feel sad.
"Hey Ava, listening to ?" Jodi’s question snapped her out of her thoughts, "You look exhaused, I should let you sleep."
"Thanks Jodi. Goodnight," she replied.
anwhile, the man who was thought to be on his way to another woman was currently having a heated conversation with the doctors in the second apartnt.
"You are not telling you called and asked to get over here ASAP just because Arthur’s pinkie finger moved," Archie said, a mirthless chuckle escaping his lips. They interrupted him just to tell him three words?!
Mr Arthur moved.
"But Mr Donovan, you were the one who asked to call you even at the slightest bit of developnt," the doctor tried to defend himself.
"And you had no idea i am a married man? You had no watch to check the ti?" Archie fired.
This ti around, the doctor had nothing else to say to defend himself.
"We are sor—"
"Just shut it if sorry is what you are going to say," Archie interrupted. "The patient, is he alright?"
"Yes Sir."
"I will check up on him and leave. You don’t have to accompany ."
With one last cold glare directed at the older man, he pushed the door open and went straight to Arthur’s room. There was a male nurse there whom he dismissed imdiately he got in, before taking the seat forrly occupied by the latter.
"You really are wonderful, Arthur, aren’t you?" he seethed. "Protecting your sister even though you are barely conscious enough to protect your own self, what if I just take off that oxygen mask?"
