With a space of less than five tres between them and Archie’s back still turned to her, Avery was able to summon the courage to ask the question topping all other questions in her mind. She knew each answer would only lead to more questions, so for now, she just wanted to take it once at a ti.

Since she wasn’t leaving Archie anyti soon and also wasn’t letting him leave, then she had all the ti in the world to co up with her questions while he had all the ti in the world to answer her.

Avery licked her lips nervously and began, "As you know, I’m very, very dumb so I need to have things outlined to before I can understand them well. I uhm... need to get so facts straight. You kept those stupid gifts that I gave you years ago, tattooed my na on you because a drunken wanted you to, and helped in the absence of my family even though a lot of people wouldn’t have. Now that I think about it, the idea that we used to hate each other for years seems very stupid and one sided, with misunderstanding your actions and you not bothering to explain. Well, maybe you did explain, and I didn’t believe you. Once again, I’m sorry for that. It’s a little bit shocking, but then, I can only think of one reason for you to do all this to soone who can barely offer you anything in return, and it’s—I asked once before, but you..." She trailed off, sucking in a puff of breath. "Do you love ?"

"Love?" Archie laughed out loud, a hint of mockery lacing his tone before his face suddenly blanked out. He turned to face her, his eyes burning with rage as he took his glasses off. "You think I love you, Ava? I’m fucking obsessed with you!"

Avery wanted to be shocked. She wanted to be horrified; to be scared; to be confused. To say she didn’t understand what he just said, but instead, a wave of happiness and relief was what overca her. She opened her mouth and closed it back almost imdiately, unsure of the perfect reply to give to a confession like that.

"Since when?" she finally muttered after several seconds had passed by.

Archie’s face fell, and he wore his glasses back.

"That’s your question?"

Avery nodded, refusing to avoid his gaze.

"Yes. I don’t think I’m ready for the answers to the other questions I have right now. I would rather live in the mont and take every other thing as it cos." She took a step forward, her voice assuming a challenging tone. "You have been in love—no, you have been obsessed with for how long?"

"Attracted; you should know the answer to that. And obsessed, a little over three years... I think."

Her jaws fell in absolute surprise. "Three. Three years?!"

Instead of answering to that, Archie turned away once more and flung the towel hanging on his shoulder onto the poolside chair.

"Go in, Ava. I can’t guarantee that I’ll stay nice for much longer," he warned.

"Then don’t stay nice. Who asked you to be nice to in the first place?" Avery retorted, the question sounding clueless.

Brows furrowed deeply, he turned to face her.

"You don’t know the aning of what you just said." His voice was cold.

"Then tell . What will you do if I don’t go in? What will happen to if you stop being nice?"

Archie chuckled, a wicked one that would have scared Avery if she heard it an hour ago before his strange confession.

"I will count to five, Ava. If you’re still here by the ti I’m done, then it ans you accept my obsession and everything that cos with it."

Avery shrugged before asking in a confident tone,

"What does it an to accept your obsession? You have been doing a lot for, and to already even without asking and I never complained. What more do you think I can’t handle?"

"You don’t say that casually, mama," he warned, "There’s a lot you won’t be able to handle. I have been holding back."

"Then don’t fucking hold back!" Avery snapped, frustration leaking into her voice. She demanded with a firm voice, "Do it. Act like the monster that you are and take what you want from . Obsess over if that’s what you want and trust , I can handle whatever perks and disadvantages cos with it"

"I will count to five," Archie said calmly.

Avery stood her ground, folding her arms across her chest as she tilted her head up at him.

’Do what you must,’ her stance spelled out.

Archie began, "One... If I let loose, Angel, I will scare you. Trust , even I don’t know to what extent I can go." She didn’t move. "Two... You don’t get to escape if you agree now. I might not be able to handle your pain and tears, but I’m scared of you leaving more than that, so believe when I say nothing is making let you go even if it’s the only thing you want in this world. Simply put, you can do your worst but I won’t let you go after this." Avery stood her ground. "Three... Just like you called a monster, I will resort to monstrous ans to keep you with if push cos to shove. Four..."

Just then, Avery’s eyes widened and she took a slight step backwards, an action that Archie’s eyes didn’t fail to catch. He glared at her, his eyes daring her to leave and Avery succumbed. She turned away from him with a gasp and ran back inside the house.

"That’s what I thought," Archie murmured. His eyes lingered on the door that slamd after her for a few seconds more before he turned and dove into the pool.

Ignoring the clenching of that fucking organ in his chest, he stayed underwater and counted sixty seconds before swimming back up.

"Damnit," he cussed, pulling his glasses from his face and flinging it across the tiled floor that surrounded the pool. He’d been so distracted that he forgot to take it off before diving.

With one large palm, he wiped the water from his face, only to notice a blurry silhouette approaching the pool. It couldn’t be Avery, though he could see even with his blurry eyesight that the figure looked a lot and had the sa physique as her. He believed it couldn’t be Avery, as she had been wearing a cream colored cotton sweater and blue denim shorts one minute ago, while this one seed to be wearing a red... lingerie? No... it was more like a...

"This can pass as a swim suit, right?"

That was Avery’s voice. But she couldn’t be back. She ran off!

"My glasses," he demanded. He wouldn’t be this confused if he had tamped down his anger and not thrown his glasses across the pool.

The figure in red padded across the edge of the pool to pick up his glasses where he’d thrown them off before approaching him.

"Here."

The figure squatted at the edge of the pool and extended his glasses, which Archie believed would be broken by now, to him. He was right. One of the lens was shattered already, but he could still see from the remaining one. He could recognize her with it.

Avery. His Ava.

His eyes raked over her body—her half naked body—where she was wearing a red pad-less bra that he could see her erect nipples straining against, and sa colored panties that had strings tied on either sides of her hips.

She rose to full length, making an angle 360° spin as if to showcase her body to him.

"What do you think?" Avery asked. "I couldn’t find a bikini or swimsuit in my closet. How could you stock it with multiples of everything else and none of these?" Archie remained quiet so she continued without bearing him any mind, "Anyways, I had to settle for this. Is it alright? I’m not really good at swimming so you’ll have to teach —"

"What are you doing here?" Archie interrupted her. "You left."

"Yeah," Avery shrugged. "You were taking so long to count, so I decided to make use of the ti by doing sothing better. Changing into a swimsuit so I could swim with you when you’re done counting."
