During this journey to Asia, Little Sound brought back nurous witnesses and pieces of evidence.

And in the following days, Jas stayed true to his word and personally went to the police station to find Tang Yanqing, handing over so of the evidence he and his brothers had discovered to Tang Yanqing.

Jia Tianzi, Guan Liang, and others were very excited about this. They all hoped to help Sister Sheng clear her na, fully believing that Tang Yansheng’s alleged cri stemd from kindness.

However, Tang Yanqing’s reaction to the new evidence from these two sources was rather indifferent and did not reflect the sa level of excitent as theirs.

Guan Liang dared not directly ask Tang Yanqing, so he privately inquired with Tang Yan Yi.

Tang Yan Yi snorted softly, "The reason my brother isn’t excited is because this so-called evidence is unreliable. Using such unreliable evidence in court might not only fail to clear my big sister of charges, but could possibly harm her instead."

Guan Liang was taken aback: "But so of the evidence cos from Luo Xiansheng. How could he harm Sister Sheng?"

Tang Yan Yi glanced at him, "Have you forgotten a phrase? — ’Concern leads to chaos.’ Little Sound wants so desperately to help Big Sister that he might resort to any ans. ’Any ans,’ you understand? That ans he could do anything."

.

When Jia Tianzi found Tang Yanqing, Tang Yanqing was standing on the rooftop of the police station smoking.

The strong wind blew, and the smoke he exhaled was scattered as soon as it left his lips. Without the smoke to obscure them, Jia Tianzi could see his narrowed eyes clearly.

Jia Tianzi walked over, "What’s wrong? I haven’t seen you this troubled in a long ti."

The last ti Jia Tianzi had seen Tang Yanqing like this was five years ago. Back then, Tang Yanqing had just joined the police force, and because of his Tang family background, the police superintendent needed a steady partner to pair with him, fearing that this young master might cause trouble and be hard to account for to Tang Mingxiang.

Thus, Jia Tianzi was chosen for his steady nature and beca Tang Yanqing’s partner.

Back then, Tang Yanqing was just like this. He was arrogant in the bureau, at odds with Old Qiao, his ntor, only focused on solving cases and cared little for anything else beyond that.

After each case, he’d walk alone to the rooftop like this, sitting in the strong winds, smoking by himself in solitude.

Jia Tianzi had always been puzzled — how could this well-bred young master, who had never encountered any setbacks from a powerful family, wear such a lonely and lancholic expression?

Initially, Tang Yanqing didn’t care much for his partner, treating him as dispensable, so Jia Tianzi had no chance to get close to Tang Yanqing’s inner world. But over ti, as they solved several major cases together, facing life and death side by side, Tang Yanqing gradually opened up a corner of his heart to him.

He ca to know vaguely that before joining the police, Tang Yanqing had experienced so deeply etched past events.

Unfortunate events.

Yet even to him, Tang Yanqing was unwilling to speak clearly.

Everyone has secrets, past events they are unwilling to talk about, so Jia Tianzi didn’t press him, just quietly listening when Tang Yanqing chose to speak, piecing together what he could from his own reasoning and assumptions.

But as ti went on, Tang Yanqing seed to finally find relief from those past events. He was once again the original Tang Yanqing, spirited and fully engaged in solving cases and writing, no longer suppressing himself.

But why now does he appear like those old days again?

Could it be... that the shadow of those past events has drifted back, enveloping him once more?

.

Tang Yanqing turned and smiled, taking the cigarette from his lips and putting it out underfoot.

Forcing a relaxed smile, "It’s nothing. I just t with those witnesses Little Sound brought back, talked to them one by one. I felt a bit tired afterward, so I ca up for a smoke."

He clearly still didn’t want to talk about it.

Jia Tianzi nodded, "How did the talks go with those people?"

"What do you think?" Tang Yanqing sighed, "If I weren’t into behavioral analysis, I might want to simply believe their statents. Unfortunately, I see the truth leaking through their body language — they’re giving false testimonies, I can’t trust them."

Jia Tianzi understood, nodding with a smile, "That’s why they say smart people lead hard lives. How about this, let handle the recording of these statents; I don’t understand behavioral analysis anyway and will just trust their words, not seeing anything else."

Tang Yanqing turned to look at Jia Tianzi, "I understand you all want to help my big sister. But we must not forget that we wear the police badge on our chests."

Jia Tianzi smiled sheepishly, "Yes, I realize my mistake."

Tang Yanqing lifted his gaze towards the distance.

The high sky and flowing clouds.

If only all past events, all shadows, could dissipate with the wind as these clouds do, how great that would be.

"I also understand Little Sound’s feelings. But I still have to warn him, don’t obstruct judicial justice."

Jia Tianzi nodded, "If you’re not comfortable saying it, then let do it."

Tang Yanqing turned his head to look at him again, smiling, "Partner, you’re just like my wife."

Jia Tianzi gave Tang Yanqing a punch, "Oh, you just realized? I’ve felt that way for a long ti. Whenever soone from the bureau cos, you let serve tea and water. I’ve long accepted my fate."

The two of them smiled at each other in the long wind on the rooftop.

"Actually, I’ve also done what Little Sound did." Tang Yanqing turned his head to look over, "Sotis I’ve also thought about lying. Because lies can cover up the harshness of reality, and make oneself feel a little better."

Jia Tianzi nodded, "Who hasn’t? Like when I was a kid and accidentally broke my mom’s favorite vase, or when I ssed up on a test... During those tis, I also wanted to lie. Because only lying would spare my beloved mom from feeling sad, and would let avoid a beating from my dad."

Tang Yanqing laughed, "So in the end, did you ever lie?"

Jia Tianzi shrugged, "Depends on the situation. Sotis I did lie, sotis I didn’t dare to."

Jia Tianzi looked back at Tang Yanqing, "What about you, what do you want to lie about?"

Tang Yanqing said nothing, his gaze fixed on the distance.

It was a long ti before he slowly said, "But lying would disappoint her, and not lying would equally disappoint her... After all these years, I still haven’t figured out what the right thing to do is."

But where in this world can you have it both ways?

Jia Tianzi also scratched his head, "But in this world, lies aren’t necessarily bad, and truths aren’t necessarily good. So sotis the opinion of an outsider, while perhaps the most objective, isn’t necessarily the best. Because an outsider can’t understand the true feelings of the person involved."

Tang Yanqing smiled, "Hmm, I understand. I didn’t pass the ball to you, so you don’t have to give your opinion."

Jia Tianzi put away his smile, "I believe that you can handle it yourself."

He had kept his secret for so many years, refusing to talk about it to anyone, because he himself hadn’t figured out how to deal with it. So even as a partner and friend, Jia Tianzi knew he should leave this matter to him.

"But how much do you believe Jas?" Jia Tianzi changed the subject.

Speaking of this, Tang Yanqing relaxed a lot, the corners of his lips curled up, "I believe it all."

At least he needed to appear as though he believed everything, to make them think he truly did.

.

Tang Yanyi went to visit George again.

But this ti it wasn’t Tang Yanyi who took the initiative to co, it was George who wanted Tang Yanyi to co.

After hearing George’s request, Tang Yanyi laughed, "You’re finally making a move to get out of prison, which is quite unexpected."

George nodded and smiled, "Because before, I had to testify against Huangfu Huazhang. You and I both know his thods. I was only safe as long as I stayed in prison; otherwise, I might have already been killed by him. During this ti, I closely cooperated with the police and helped you quite a bit, Xiao Yi. Now that the accusation against Huangfu Huazhang for plotting against our family’s elder uncle has entered the litigation process, I should now step down with my mission accomplished."

Tang Yanyi nodded, "Jas also visited my ho and t my grandfather. It seems that you brothers are ready to retake Fude Group, which is why George, you can’t stay in prison anymore. You’re ready to make a coback."

George clapped his hands in appreciation, "Xiao Yi, you see, I just admire your intelligence. You know what I want to do, and I know what you need, that’s why we can cooperate as such good partners."

The company’s matters were almost handled, and next was the formal appearance at the board eting to take back the company.

He couldn’t leave this matter to Jas; he had to do it himself.

He, George, was the eldest son of the Ford family; the inheritance rights of Fude Group rightfully belonged to him, and he would not yield.

He gazed at Tang Yanyi, "Doesn’t it resemble the rise and fall of a great figure of China, or perhaps the ancient wise man Zhuge Kongming staying in his hut, waiting for three visits? This is the wisdom of you in the East, and I learned from it."

Tang Yanyi gave a thumbs up, "Advancing by retreating, that’s indeed the philosophy of a master."

George nodded and smiled, "Therefore, for the related procedures and details, I’ll have to ask Xiao Yi you to help coordinate and handle. The board eting is not far off, and I don’t want to be stuck in tedious police procedures, missing the date of the eting."

"Don’t worry," Tang Yanyi generously nodded, "I’ll go back and report to my superior, trying my best to smooth things over for you."

George extended his hand, "Good partner."

Tang Yanyi also generously bumped fists with him, "Good partner."
