Chapter 450: Chapter 422 Old Dai’s Inheritance

After sorting things out in the rest cabin and before he had a chance to lie down, Gu Yu heard a knock at the door.

“You’re closer to the door, go, go, I’m going to lie down for a bit.”

Lin Xinyue, already sprawled on the bed, kicked Gu Yu with her foot.

Gu Yu had no choice but to stand up and open the door resignedly.

As soon as he opened the door, he slled a faint scent of perfu, and standing before him was Wu Shaohan, dressed to the nines.

“Oh, you’re back? Had fun in Xiangjiang? This is the ‘Acknowledgnt of Assistance at the Luoxinya Refugee Camp’ for you and your wife.”

With a radiant smile on her face, Wu Shaohan handed the two acknowledgnt forms to Gu Yu.

Gu Yu took them, briefly scanned the content, and realized it was mainly about the risks involved in the aid mission. Participants needed to be aware of the dangers.

It was just a formality to fill in a na.

After all, who joining the dical aid team didn’t know it was dangerous?

“If you’re sure about going, just sign at the bottom right corner. If you change your mind, just tear it up.”

Wu Shaohan then produced an ordinary ink pen and passed it to Gu Yu.

Since Gu Yu had decided to go, changing his mind was clearly not an option.

He took the pen, quickly signed his and Lin Xinyue’s nas, and then handed the acknowledgnt forms back to him.

Wu Shaohan looked at Gu Yu’s signature with a smile in his eyes, “Nice handwriting, neater than any of the doctors I know.”

Gu Yu’s handwriting had that neatness characteristic of engineering types, which was like a treasure compared to those doctors he knew, who could replace their na with a single squiggle.

“Well, then I’ll go submit these.” He turned around, ready to hand in the forms, but then, as if he rembered sothing, turned his head back to Gu Yu and said, “By the way, Dean Hou was looking for you this afternoon, but you were not here.”

Curiosity sparkled in Wu Shaohan’s eyes; he still hadn’t figured out Gu Yu’s background.

But to have the Academician co in person, it must be pretty special.

“Okay, got it,” Gu Yu nodded, though a bit perplexed inside.

Wasn’t this Academician Hou a little too attentive?

While anyone with Gu Yu’s dical student status would have likely clung to him for advice, Gu Yu was different. dicine was only his secondary profession, and he had no plans to throw himself completely into the field.

If he beca too associated with Academician Hou Yun, he feared he would attract a lot of trouble.

After all, the bigger the tree, the more wind it catches, and while Academician Hou might not fear the wind, he, Gu Yu, was still just a sapling!

As Gu Yu pondered how to explain himself the next ti Academician Hou ca looking for him, the door across from him cracked open suddenly.

Old Dai peeked out sneakily and then gestured to Gu Yu, “Yu, co here, I have sothing nice to show you.”

His deanor was the spitting image of a creepy, lecherous man luring an innocent young… boy.

Gu Yu’s eyebrows shot up: “What nice thing? It better not be your prized… swimsuit magazines, right?”

Dai Zhengguo’s expression froze, his old face gradually turning red, he glanced around the corridor, then gave Gu Yu a sidelong glare, “What nonsense are you talking? Would I show you that kind of thing? I’m a man who’s sworn off gambling and drugs for life!”

“What does that have to do with adult content?” Gu Yu ruthlessly pointed out what he omitted in his sentence.

Dai Zhengguo: “…Cough, cough, what nonsense are you spouting, kid? It’s sothing good, definitely not what you’re thinking.”

Gu Yu shrugged: “Then I really have to see what it is.”

With the door left ajar, Gu Yu squeezed into Dai Zhengguo’s rest cabin.

Once inside, the light was dim, and he saw a bunch of papers and pens ssily arranged on a small coffee table in the middle of the living room, along with an improvised booklet made from folded A4 papers clamped with a tal clip.

The cover featured six handwritten black characters, but they were hard to make out due to the dim light.

The floor was also covered with balls of paper, leaving Gu Yu sowhat unsure where to step.

But he also saw another side of Dai Zhengguo, that of an erudite old man dedicated to compiling books.

“Old Dai, you really should turn on the light in the living room. Even though you don’t have presbyopia, what if you get it?”

Gu Yu casually helped Old Dai turn on the living room lights.

Old Dai chuckled and said, “I forgot, I forgot. I was too engrossed in compiling the book.”

“Hey, what’s this wonderful thing you want to show ?” Gu Yu moved closer to Old Dai, his eyebrows slightly raised, and he put on a curious expression.

In truth, his gaze was darting back and forth over the simple book on the coffee table.

Dai’s Surgical Miscellaneous

The six traditional characters, likely written with a fine brush, were vigorous and distinct, and the pages were not all A4 paper. So seed to be yellowed with age, reminiscent of the pages of an old publication.

He had almost guessed what Old Dai wanted to show him, but he still played along and asked.

Sure enough, upon his inquiry, Old Dai’s face took on a mysterious expression.

“When I say it’s sothing great, it has to be sothing great!” Dai Zhengguo said with a grin.

He walked over to the coffee table and carefully picked up the book he compiled, smoothing out the curled corners with his right hand before presenting it to Gu Yu, “The treasure I want to show you is this book.”

“Dai’s Surgical Miscellaneous, Old Dai, this is written by you, right? Impressive!”

Even though he already knew, Gu Yu still praised Dai Zhengguo.

Indeed, pride bead on Dai Zhengguo’s face as his palms gently flipped through the mottled pages, “It’s called Dai’s, so of course, I wrote it! But it cannot be said that I wrote it entirely on my own; the compilation of this book started with my father’s generation, and up to now, I feel that I’ve nearly added all I can.”

“A book written by two generations…”

Gu Yu beca earnest, now realizing why the book’s cover featured hand-written traditional characters with pages that were both yellow and white.

This was a book that had spanned a century and the effort of two generations!

“Old Dai, this is your Inheritance, isn’t it!?”

Gu Yu felt so awe: such a handwritten book, compiled and edited little by little by Old Dai and his father over generations, was imasurably valuable.

“Yes, it is my Inheritance!” Old Dai nodded, casually flipping to the title page where his father’s na was written — author Dai Weimin, and at the bottom right corner, Old Dai’s own na Dai Zhengguo was inscribed.

One for the people, one for the nation…

Gu Yu found himself at a loss for words to express his inner emotions.

Although he didn’t know what kind of person Old Dai’s father was, through Old Dai, he could tell that Old Dai’s father must also have been an excellent doctor.

That excellence referred not only to ability but also to character.

In that era, Western dicine was scarce, and surgeons even rarer, with most people preferring conservative treatnt thods.

In that era, those who persisted in the field of surgery were all capable of miraculous cures.

“It is an Inheritance…” Old Dai seed not to know why he repeated those words, and Gu Yu heard the deep reluctance in his voice.

“But now, I want to pass this book on to you.”

Before Gu Yu could even react, Old Dai’s tone suddenly shifted.

“What!!?” Gu Yu was stunned.
