Chapter 587: Chapter 40 Planning Chapter 587: Chapter 40 Planning Countless Bipedal Wyverns and Fire Drakes dove from the skies, bringing with them an unstoppable montum as they attacked the Abyssal Drakes.
The loud Dragon’s Roar brought endless pressure, causing the Abyssal Drakes to tremble in spirit and feel the terror originating from the depths of their blood.
The burning tongues of fla scorched the skin of the Abyssal Drakes, while the sharp lances rcilessly penetrated their bodies.
In an instant, the Abyssal Drakes, which had just been ferociously advancing, were overwheld by a scarlet flood. After a round of charges, they fell from the sky, while the Empire’s dragons let out long howls.
“Boom!”
Cannon fire shook heaven and earth, drowning out the cacophonous roars of demons.
And on that torrid battlefield, the standoff between tanks and demons continued, with the demons quickly discovering the Steam Tanks’ weakness after suffering heavy casualties.
Using Kwase Demons, Frosthorn, Kasmo, and other demons adept at agile flight, they besieged these “Iron Lumps,” incessantly spitting highly corrosive acid onto their tops.
More Abyssal Drakes descended from the sky, ripping through the tanks’ armor along the seams and spitting black flas at the chassis.
“Buzz Buzz—”
The sky seed to fill with a crimson fog as countless revolting, black larva-like creatures swept across the air with their tiny red wings, emitting a disorienting drone.
Their buzzing caused excruciating headaches and ntal confusion, leaving only pain and bewildernt to those who beca their prey.
—Those were swarms of Demon Bees, aggressive and brutally bloodthirsty creatures that would devour all life forms they encountered, desecrating their habitats.
At that mont, the droning sound easily penetrated the armor and entered the cockpit, causing imnse pain to the Imperial Soldiers inside.
Right then, the Demon Bees, through the torn gaps in the armor, rushed into the Steam Tanks in a frenzied swarm.
“Zzz—”
The ergency magi-tech system of the Steam Tank automatically triggered, releasing powerful electromagnetic pulses over the surface of the tank, making countless Demon Bees fall from the sky.
But the Demon Bees circling the tank were just a fraction compared to the swarm spreading across the battlefield.
The machine guns atop the Steam Tanks spewed out flas, pouring out terrifying firepower, but even as the barrels overheated, they failed to stop the invasion of the Demon Bees.
Soon, accompanied by a fine rattling noise, the frenzied Demon Bees chewed through a passage in the gaps of the Steam Tank’s armor and sward into the cockpit.
“They’re getting in!”
“No—”
“Shoot! Shoot!”
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Facing the influx of Demon Bees into the tank, the soldiers inside fired in panic, but to no avail against the swarm.
“Damn it, bullets are useless against them!”
“No, don’t co closer—”
They were quickly overwheld by the frenzy of Demon Bees, reduced to skeletons amid the harrowing sounds of gnawing.
“Monsters…”
“I’ll fight you to the end, for the Empire, for His Majesty Cassius! This is the glory of Istalia!”
The human tank commander’s eyes were bloodshot as he pounded his chest and shouted almost madly.
In the last mont before being engulfed by the swarm, the commander’s face twisted as he pushed the joystick to the bottom and fiercely pressed the red button labeled “Ergency Self-Destruct Protocol.”
The Steam Tank, like a mad bull, charged directly into the demon horde, its blood-stained tal prow smashing countless demons into pulverized flesh.
Following that, its whistle spewed sparks and steam from the top, and the interior’s high-pressure boiler emitted a furious screech before exploding completely.
“Boom!”
With an unprecedented roar, the Steam Tank burst apart violently.
A massive mushroom cloud, a blinding fireball appeared on the ground, and the terrible explosion devoured everything within a hundred ters. Billows of steam and intense heat waves swept across the entire battlefield.
When the smoke cleared, the earth was charred black, emitting wisps of blue smoke, and fragnts of the Steam Tank were scattered everywhere.
The ground featured a pit dozens of ters in diater, flowing with magma.
Within that hole lay the charred remains of Coward Demons, and the millions-strong swarm of Demon Bees had been utterly obliterated, even the demon queen bee that had been lurking was rcilessly consud by the earth-shattering explosion.
Yet the battle continued, the eliminated swarm of Demon Bees being but a small part; further afield, the droning continued, and the large queen flew slowly, surrounded by her Servant Bees…
…
The Third Battle Zone Command Center.
Dolores looked at the huge mushroom cloud rising in the distance, his brow furrowed deeply.
The Dragon Vein Goblin gripped the Great Axe in his hand, and his dull yellow eyes squinted slightly: “It’s unexpected, the Steam Tanks suffered losses so soon…”
Behind him, a deep, resonant voice spoke: “Dolores, I’ve told you before.
This demonic invasion is not the minor skirmishes from before, nor a ga for you to earn military exploits.
It is a test… for the entire Ashen Empire.”
The imposing figure stepped out of the shadows, nearly engulfing Dolores in his cast shadow, the Scepter adorned with the Ashen Emblem shimring in the dim firelight.
—That was none other than the Imperial Pri Minister, the first Retainer to beco Legendary, the Ogre Archmage Ramp.
Ramp reminded him mildly: “Let’s put all internal strife aside for now.
This demonic invasion requires the collective effort of all Empire mbers, rember that His Majesty has been planning for this for years.”
