I lounged in the student council room, sprawled across Sona's chair, the soft leather creaking under . She'd vanished into the side room—sothing about needing a break—and left holding down the fort. The door suddenly burst open, shattering the quiet. Tsubaki stord in, dragging Saji by the ear like a misbehaving puppy. His face twisted in pain, but he still managed a sheepish grin.
"Tsubaki, let go already!" Saji whined, squirming in her grip. "I thought you'd be above peeping on the girls!"
Tsubaki's eyes narrowed, her voice sharp as a blade. "And I thought you were better than sneaking a peek at the locker room!"
Saji yelped, rubbing his ear. "Ow! Co on, I'm a guy—it's practically in my DNA to look!"
Their heads snapped toward as they finally noticed lounging in Sona's spot. Tsubaki's brow furrowed, her tone shifting from annoyed to curious. "Shiro? What are you doing in her chair?"
I leaned back, crossing my arms with a casual shrug. "Sona's not feeling great—hit a rough patch—so I'm filling in 'til she's back on her feet. Gotta step up, you know? She's my fiancée, after all."
Saji's jaw dropped, his eyes widening in betrayal. "Wait, what?! No way—my waifu's off the market?!"
I shot him a glare, already imagining wiping that dumb look off his face. "Keep talking, Saji, and I'll kick your ass so hard you'll feel it next week. Hang on—better idea." I smirked, pulling out my phone. "I'll call in the kendo club."
His face went white as a sheet, and I couldn't help but grin. After a quick call, I watched with satisfaction as the kendo girls marched in, tied Saji up with practiced ease, and hauled him off, his protests fading down the hall. Pervert problem solved.
Tsubaki crossed her arms, her gaze flicking back to . "Seriously, Shiro, what's actually up with Sona?"
I nodded toward the side room, keeping it vague. "She's in there. Blissed out, I guess."
Her eyebrow arched, skepticism written all over her face. "Blissed out? What's that supposed to an?"
I pointed lazily at the door. "She asked to take her there, so I did. Go see for yourself."
Tsubaki hesitated, then strode over and flung the side room door open. A beat of silence—then her voice exploded through the wall. "WHAT THE HELL?!"
She stord back in, her face a mix of shock and exasperation, ready to unload on . But before she could get a word out, I cut in with a grin. "Hey, she wanted so 'vitamin D'—I just delivered."
Tsubaki pinched the bridge of her nose, letting out a long, tired sigh. "You're unbelievable. Just… go. I'll take over here."
"Fine by ," I said, hopping up from the chair. "Catch you later."
….
I flopped onto my couch at ho, the day's chaos still buzzing in my head. Then it hit like a lightning bolt—my evil pieces! I scrambled to dig them out of my inventory, fumbling with the small, jagged chess-like tokens. As I held them up, a soft voice floated from behind .
"You need to put your blood on them."
I jolted upright, adrenaline surging as I yanked Holy Avenger from its sheath and spun around, blade pointed at the intruder. My heart thudded—until I saw her. Ophis. I lowered the sword, exhaling hard. "Damn it, Ophis, don't sneak up on like that! I almost took a swing at you."
She tilted her head, unfazed, her voice calm and teasing. "Even with that fancy holy sword, you'd barely scratch . A little nick, maybe—if you're lucky."
I smirked, sliding the blade back into place. "Yeah, well, I've got Dragon Slayer magic, and you're a dragon. Do the math—I'll figure out a way to change that 'scratch' into sothing bigger."
Ophis pouted, crossing her arms. "Hmph. Even with that magic, you'd still lose."
"Whatever," I said, waving her off. "So, how do I make these pieces work?"
She stepped closer, her tone turning serious. "Simple. Prick your finger and drip so blood onto the king's piece."
I grabbed a pin from the table, jabbed my finger, and let a crimson drop fall onto the jagged king piece. It pulsed with light, glowing brighter as the other pieces flared up too. When the glow faded, they looked different—sharper, more dragon-like, almost alive in my hand.
Ophis leaned in, inspecting them with a hum. "Interesting. They've mutated—all of them. Your blood didn't just activate them; it reshaped them into sothing unique, tailored to you."
I picked up the king piece, curiosity buzzing in my chest, and muttered, "Observe."
A faint shimr ran across it, and info flooded my mind:
Dragon King Piece: Boosts all stats by 20 each.
My eyebrows shot up. "Okay, cool. How do I… uh, use it?"
Ophis smirked, her eyes glinting mischievously. "Pull down your pants and bend over—I'll help."
I barked out a laugh. "Oh, real funny."
She shrugged, dropping the tease. "Just hold it near your chest. It'll sink in on its own. For the others, you'll need a small chant later."
I pressed the king piece to my chest, and it lted into like warm liquid, rging with my skin. A rush of power surged through my veins—stronger, sharper, alive. I flexed my hands, feeling the difference already.

I froze mid-thought, a grin creeping across my face. "Oh, yeah—I almost forgot! I could totally get Alucard into my peerage." I glanced down at the queen piece in my hand, its jagged edges glinting faintly, then flicked my eyes up to Ophis.
She didn't even let finish the thought. "No," she said flatly, arms crossed, her tone leaving no room for argunt.
I sighed, slumping my shoulders. "Yeah, you're probably right. One badass in the group is enough." I tucked the pieces into my pocket, their weight a comforting reminder of what was ahead. "Guess I'll go track him down."
….
I found Alucard in a quiet corner of the grounds, legs crossed and eyes closed, deep in ditation. The air around him felt heavy, like he was pulling the calm into himself. I stepped closer, my boots scuffing the dirt. "Hey, Alucard."
His eyes snapped open, sharp and crimson, locking onto mine. He didn't say anything—just waited.
I grinned, cutting straight to it. "Wanna join my peerage?"
He unfolded himself and stood in one smooth motion, towering over with that effortless cool he always carried. "That'd be nice," he said, his voice low and steady, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
"Alright, easy enough." I pulled out the evil pieces, spreading them on the ground between us. "Just hold your hand over them. Whichever one glows—that's yours."
He raised a brow but did as I said, hovering his hand above the pieces. I figured the queen piece would light up—soone like Alucard scread 'queen' with all that power and swagger. But it stayed dark. So did the rook, the knight, and the bishop. Then his hand drifted over a pawn piece, and it flared to life, glowing a deep, pulsing red.
I blinked, caught off guard. "Well, that's… unexpected."
"You're telling ," Alucard muttered, staring at the glowing pawn like it'd insulted him. He tilted his head, then shrugged. "Still works."
"You sure you're cool with this?" I asked, holding the pawn piece up between us.
"Yep," he said simply, that smirk creeping back. "I'm in."
"Alright, here we go." I stepped closer, holding the pawn piece near his chest. My voice steadied as I spoke, letting the words carry weight. "As your king, I command it so. I call on you, Alucard, forr king of vampires, to stand by my side. Help in my battles, and I'll have your back in whatever you need. Join on this journey, and I'll walk with you on yours."
The piece shimred, then sank into his chest, disappearing beneath his coat. A faint ripple of energy pulsed between us, sealing the bond. I grinned wide. "Well, looks like we're family now."
Alucard chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that felt oddly warm coming from him. "Guess so."
Before I could savor the mont, a familiar voice piped up behind , tinged with a pout. "Hey! What about ? I wanna be in your peerage too!"
I turned to see Asia standing there, arms crossed and cheeks puffed out in the cutest sulk I'd ever seen. My heart did a little flip.
Damn, she's adorable.
"Okay, you're in," I said, laughing as I fished out a bishop piece from my stash.
She lit up instantly, bouncing on her toes. I held the bishop close to her chest, keeping my voice soft but firm. "As your king, I command it so. I call on you, Asia Argento, to be my healer—my clergyman. nd my heart when it's broken, stand with 'til the end. I'll protect you with everything I've got. Join us on this journey, and we'll face it together."
The bishop glowed softly, then lted into her, a faint golden light flickering where it vanished. Asia squealed, "Yay! I'm in your peerage!" Before I could react, she launched herself at , wrapping her arms around my neck in a tight hug.
"Asia!" I yelped, my face heating up as I stumbled back, her warmth pressed against . She giggled into my shoulder, and I couldn't help but laugh too, flustered and happy all at once.
