Chapter 40: Chapter 39: Fire Truck

Soon, soone noticed the slowly passing train overhead.

But seeing the zombies wandering in the gaps of the vehicles and the height of the overpass being dozens of ters, most people gave up hope for rescue.

The tornt of over ten days left these survivors emaciated and their spirits numb.

Those truly courageous couldn’t wait this long and had already beco one of the wanderers.

But a teenager trapped in an SUV seed to see hope.

Taking advantage of the mont when the zombies around were distracted by the train overhead, he quietly unlocked the door and slipped out of the car.

Following the route he observed over the past two days, he climbed onto a sedan, then carefully navigated around a pile of blocked trucks, walking cautiously on the asphalt road.

His eyes were fixed tightly on the nearby wandering zombies.

Holding his breath, he made his footsteps as light as possible.

But as he passed a van, he neglected the zombie driver inside.

"Bang!"

A dull thud ca from the window.

A decayed face pressed hard against the glass, blood-shot eyes greedily staring at the teenager.

The teenager’s scalp exploded in fear, and he imdiately lost his composure, breaking into a quick run.

Fortunately, the zombie driver in the van didn’t make any sound.

The teenager darted left and right, sohow not encountering a living zombie.

Occasionally there were a few, but they all died terribly, their heads impaled on the jagged tal spikes at the side of the cars.

This scene was witnessed by those above.

Su Huan looked at the front of the teenager, where two zombies had their heads suddenly pierced by the tal spikes of a nearby car. He glanced at Qi Xiaobai sitting beside him in a wheelchair.

With interest, he asked, "Has the range increased this much already?"

Xiaoba pressed his thin lips together, his gaze following the teenager below the bridge, "There’s no limit to the range; it just consus more energy the further it is."

"No wonder it’s a high-level ability," Su Huan remarked.

His gaze also followed the movents of the teenager below, wanting to see how long he could last.

Of course, it was to see how long Qi Xiaobai could last.

Besides the people on the train, so survivors also witnessed this miraculous scene.

They didn’t know the reason but didn’t want to miss the opportunity, so one by one, they all opened the car doors and fled outside.

Such a commotion imdiately alerted the zombies below.

The roaring of the zombies sent chills down everyone’s spines.

A woman had just gotten out and was pounced on by a zombie to the ground. Just as the zombie was about to bite, a steel bar fell from the overpass.

With a squelch, it pierced through her skull.

But there were over a dozen people escaping below.

Because he had attended to the woman, the initial teenager, in his panic, crashed into a group of zombies and was eaten alive.

"Help—"

"Help , I have gold, I beg you to let

on the train!"

"Mom! Run fast..."

Despairing of any chance of escape, so began praying to the train passing overhead.

But their loud cries only provoked the zombies.

"Let the child on the train, please, let him live, I’ll do anything, let him live—"

A woman knelt on a car, holding up a child about ten years old, shouting to those above.

The zombies surged in, overwhelming the woman.

The young child also fell into the group of zombies.

The harrowing cries stirred the hearts of everyone.

Su Huan still wore a smile, but frost nearly overflowed from his eyes.

"I... caused their deaths." Qi Xiaobai gripped the wheelchair handles tightly, his face pale.

"No one likes to see their kind slaughtered, especially such worthless deaths, but if you want to change it, you must bear the consequences," Su Huan’s voice was calm, with a trace of coldness.

This ti he didn’t comfort Xiaobai or attempt to impose his ideals on him.

He only told him what ability was, what a price was.

No one can persuade another; you can’t persuade those stronger than you nor those similar to you.

In the end, you may even find you can’t persuade those weaker than you.

Soon, the dozen or so survivors below the bridge were also overwheld.

Su Huan lost interest in watching, left the carriage, and went to the driver’s cab where Liang Kuan was focused intensely on the track ahead.

Due to a derailnt, there were many broken and twisted tracks. Although that section was past, caution was wise.

If the dozens of train cars were to derail, with the team’s current capabilities, they wouldn’t be able to salvage it.

Behind the driver’s cab hung a railway map of Mojiang City.

Mojiang City had three platforms: Mojiang South Station, Mojiang Station, and Mojiang North Station.

Su Huan observed for a mont, his gaze resting on a section of street outside Mojiang South Station. If he rembered correctly, there were several fire trucks stuck there.

They were all filled with water supplies. When the apocalypse erupted, these fire trucks tried to head out for firefighting but got stuck.

Later, the trucks were taken out and beca the core vehicles of the Mojiang Mutual Aid Convoy.

Relying on the superior carbon-steel bodies of the fire trucks and a large amount of clean water, they maintained the cohesion of the convoy in the early days.

Now equipped with trains and water purifiers, Su Huan naturally dismissed the fire trucks and their tons of water resources.

He aid for another batch of things on the fire trucks.

Firearms and ammunition.

In his previous life, he heard people say that law enforcent officers rode on the fire trucks, and many weapons were left there.

Later, Juan and his group of rascals packed them up.

The handgun in his hand had long beco a decoration, with the last few bullets wasted on Gao Zhe.

Last ti at the water plant, due to many remaining Evolution Beasts in the building, they didn’t conduct a large-scale search after finding the water purifier.

The tracks ahead would pass through several more cities; before the Evolver teams ford, firearms were the best alternative.

So hefty pieces of equipnt could even be useful in the late apocalypse.

So the next task was to retrieve that batch of weapons before leaving Mojiang City and strive to advance the ard train plan.

Having sorted his thoughts, Su Huan lifted his head.

Just in ti to see a few swaying zombies appearing in front of the tracks, they pounced excitedly upon hearing the train, like seeing a delicious can of food.

"Don’t enter the platform, just stay outside; the platform is jam-packed with zombies, not convenient for any action," Su Huan instructed.

Liang Kuan pulled down the lever, "Understood!"

A few zombies had their legs chopped off axle-deep, crushed into the wheels below.

The ard train continued forward smoothly, without any fluctuations.

On both sides, the terrain gradually leveled with the train, skyscrapers towering, but both sides of the tracks were barred, without the situation of being besieged by a horde of zombies.

"There’s sothing up ahead."

Liang Kuan said quietly.

There were many blood stains and so broken bodies and debris strewn across the train sleeping stones.

Su Huan squinted as he saw an eerie figure squatting on the railing beside the tracks, hunched over, appearing only about a ter tall.

Its naked torso was iron-green, the back covered in tumors looking like fruit hanging down.

Most were dark red, while a small portion was black.

With scarlet eyes, it fiercely stared at the train, cackling eerily as it tore a black tumor from its back.
